January 29, 20188 yr Author Yeah, thats what i mean. Build a fool proof solution = X hours of work. 5 Threads a month about port problems = x hours of work Boniel, so just check 1.) if port is already used and 2.) if theres a port forwarding for a (maybe) stopped VM/Docker -> should clear 99% of all threads about this issue :=) Also there could (should) be a failback solution if port of http cant be assigned.. January 30, 20188 yr Author try next port. Or try, i dont know, 5 ports which are standard fail back ports. If 80 not working 81 if not working 82 if not working 83 if not working 84 if not working 85 (and if 443 cant be bind, just dont use https) This is a consumer product, it would take much support away if it would be fool proof. Technical its easy doable. Edited January 30, 20188 yr by nuhll
January 30, 20188 yr This is bonkers.. I think just a warning is enough.. No system can deal with user idiocy but a simple warning is good enough. IMHO of course

Technical its easy doable. When you say it's easily doable is that from personal experience? It's very easy to post and tell someone it's easy to do, but quite another thing to do it. In my experience, most things are never as simple as you first think they're going to be. I can see how a loop with lots of fallback ports may work, but you can't cover every eventuality. And I disagree this is a consumer product, it's an computing enthusiast's project. Consumer would be aimed at someone with no PC experience, like my wife, and there's no way she could use Unraid.
January 30, 20188 yr Author Ofc she can. She will be able to use the usb windows creator, she will be able to plug it into a system. And unraid is running. Its easy doable, "technicans" think just to complicated (or want it to be, so only they can use it, i dont know). This i see everytime, on different boards. Do you tell me its not easy to write a simple startup script, looking at the log, see if its startet, if not, change port and restart?

IMHO of course Ppls asked what they could do, i answererd. Whats best option? I dont know. But all is better as its now. Atleast i would implement a port check with warning. Failback would be nice to have. maybe this could be done in a plugin or docker, i dont know. Edited January 30, 20188 yr by nuhll
January 31, 20188 yr maybe this could be done in a plugin or docker, i dont know. It's core Unraid functionality, a plugin or docker is not the solution to every problem, this requires a change to the operating system/webuiSent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk

Wow! Looks like you figured out how to do this. You could make your own NAS and get it perfect then. Just need X hours of work
