zoiman
I have 10 data drives/parity/cache array. I have noticed that although the drives are all WD and 6TB there have been two instances of different sector counts. Now with the failure of a data drive the spare is one with a smaller sector count and accordingly will not install (replacement drive too small). Do I have a work around or must a new drive be purchased. Thanks. Quote Link to comment
Squid
Do a google search on how to remove HPA partition. *BUT*, there have been some reports that shucked drives in particular may not always have the same sector counts of their bare drive equivalents. Quote Link to comment
JonathanM
Depends on whether the sector count reduction is hardware or software. If it's a different model like some drives that were only sold as USB externals, then you will need a new drive. If it's a HPA issue, then you need to figure out why the HPA was set so you can be sure it won't happen again, and remove the HPA. Google unraid hpa if you have no clue what I'm talking about.
