BRiT
Here's an update to this ... This provides for possibly better responsiveness by merely running 2 commands and adding 4 lines into your .bashrc file. This was provided by a Redhat developer. What this alternative does is actually use Control Groups (CGROUPS) and adds each shell into it's own control group if it doesn't belong to one. By default Linux treats all processes as belonging to the same control group if they don't explicitly create their own. You need to have Control Groups (CGROUP) and CFQ Group IO Scheduler (CFQ_GROUP_IOSCHED) enabled in the Kernel. Here's the additional details: http://www.webupd8.org/2010/11/alternative-to-200-lines-kernel-patch.html And here's a discussion of this alternative for Ubuntu style: http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/gentoo/user/221770 Quote Link to comment
