doesntaffect 7
I started to build a decent unRaid system, however here and there entcounter questions. Is this forum / the wiki the main or only places to go and ask for support? I think its fair that I cannot expect all answers from this forum, however still I might have questions. Especially in the first months. Given the fact I have to decide whether I want to buy a license in a couple of days I wonder whether there is a commercial service (e.g. support@Unraid.net) available for paying customers? wgstarks 210
The forum is the best place for questions, bug reports, etc. Certain things like license issues should be directed to LimeTech directly, usually by email support@limetech.com IIRC. 1 Quote Link to post
Squid 2887
You can also get support via Reddit and Facebook Quote Link to post
doesntaffect 7
Well, okay. 🙃 I admit I had the assumption that since this is a commercial product, that there would be a official support channel which I do not need to spam (and which provides "certified" answers). Quote Link to post

Despite it being a commercial product Limetech is still a very small company (Originally it was a 1 man company and I think total employees are still in single figures) so do not really have the resources to have much in the way of dedicated support. Any support requests sent via email will therefore be handled by people who have other responsibilities as well. There is the ‘official’ part of the wiki accessible via the ‘Manual’ link at the bottom of the Unraid GUI which has a lot of useful information that can be regarded as reasonably definitive. Having said all that you are very likely to get much quicker and more detailed answers via this forum than any other route. 1 Quote Link to post
SpencerJ 350
Hello @doesntaffect, Welcome. This is a great place to find support. Likewise, you can email us. Other options include support via Spaceinvader One or Paid support here. Quote Link to post
peterg23 8
Spaceinvader One has great support videos covering all skill levels. Check them out here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZDfnUn74N0WeAPvMqTOrtA/videos Unraid Basics are here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL6MCtOroZNDCXhQQWrVjbPWO-45qV7SOF * Supporting the author's channel is also a good idea. Zorlofe 12
I just finished my build at the end of last month and can say I have been able to find all my answers here or the videos as well as people helping to answer directly in the forums. It's been a great ride so far and I'm loving Unraid 2 Quote Link to post

Having worked in a software support role before I had a similar reaction to the forum. However, the timeliness and the quality of the answers to questions here are generally better than ticket support for enterprise software. I've actually received information like how to make a Dell SAS card work correctly by covering one of the contacts before inserting it into a motherboard. Things you would NEVER get from typical enterprise software support. Yes, I have some issues with the product. It's not pretty like a Synology box. It has some quirks here and there that may be me, or may be the code. But the value of this code is the ability to use your own hardware, and not have to limit yourself to weak processors and insufficient memory like you would with most NAS in a box solutions. Preclears are ANNOYING as hell and take FOREVER. But it's all about maintaining data integrity so I just wait it out. I trust Unraid with my data a hell of a lot more than the Netgear ReadyNAS 4-slice toaster I swapped out, that's for sure. I made that decision after testing FreeNAS, Rockstor, and a few others. Is Unraid perfect? No software is really. But it's perfect for what I need it for. Don't believe it yet? Come up with a weird technical question that you wouldn't expect an answer for. Post it here. You'll probably have detailed instructions within the hour. Oh, make sure you install the "Community Applications" plugin right away. That's basically the app store for this product. Good luck!
