  1. Lol 6.0 came out last night before i went to bed, i get up this morning and go to look at the thread to see if there were any major issues with the release and i have to troll though 5 pages of crap about plugins, screw plugins hows the unraid 6.0 base function. Take it to the user customization forum guys not this thread, i couldn't give a shit about if plugin x or y works i want to know if there are any show stopping bugs in the new release. Just my 2 pence.
  2. How about locking this thread now? Good luck.. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
  3. Me too, been playing with a VM and snapraid if this came along I wouldn't need to. God I hope this happens. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
  4. Keep looking at Ubuntu server and snap raid myself, but love my unraid box. Its setup and just works. So want to see this ubraid distro come into the light of day. How does the performance on snap raid compare to unraid, copying to and from the server. Do like the idea of having 2 parity drives to cover my 13 drives instead of 1, this always seemed like asking for trouble. Only thing I wasn't sure of was the fact that when I copy a file to a snap raid setup it isn't protected until a sync is done. As i run a headless server web admin is important to me, don't see the point in installing a desktop and then vnc into a server. Grumpy has already shown a lot of tools that can used to monitor the server. Will have to set up a virtualbox install and have a play with the various tools. Lots to learn as never really played with a linux server. Do want to play with mysql and ownclould though. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
  5. Drive shows no pending or relocated sectors which is good, have you checked cabling, making sure all is seated OK.
  6. I thought I understood it or at least the concept of how it works was looking around and came across raidz2 so would need 3 +2 disks, so 3 pools of the same config would give you the 6 disk redundacy. This is about as far as it goes, Is the space on the 3 data disk the only part that's accessible or is all the space available, ie 3x2tb or 5x2tb? My Linux experiences consist of ubuntu/xubuntu and a little snapraid on ubuntu server, this had webadmin installed so understand bits of that also, never be afraid to "get my hands dirty" though. I need to do allot more reading / playing it would seem, lol. Roll on unraid distro edition
  7. That sounds pretty dam cool, I especially like the ideas of the 3 separate pools and the ability to loose up to 6 disks. Wow. What's the minimum disk requirement for each pool? Could you have 3 pools of 5 disks for example? Don't all the disks in the pool all need to be the same size? Instead of me asking loads of questions here do you have any links an idiot like me can follow and learn from, this sounds very very interesting?
  8. Mine just gets shut down when I upgrade something or change a disk, which isn't that often. Other then that it goes to sleep around 12.00 once the mover the s done and I wake it up again around 7 or 8am. The only other time it gets shut down as after 3min when there's a power failure which isn't that often.
  9. I haven't got a clue what an rpm file is lol but can learn "apt-get install unraid" sounds allot easier, used that one before Getting used to the name "unRAID AntiChrist Edition" though, liking it allot now. Regarding the cache dive this is where I'll be installing "unRAID AntiChrist Edition", should imagine 250GB being plenty of room.
  10. Hi I currently have listed on eBay 3x Cooler Master 4-in-3 Device Modules all in excellent working order with no issues and complete with original boxes. Just in case any ones interested. Looking for around £15 + postage each, but listed on eBay for £19.99 to cover postage. Module 1: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/331100795828?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649 Module 2: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/331100849904?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649 Module 3: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/331100851668?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649
  11. Been playing a little more and a couple of suggestions: Is it possible on the Disk Stats page to add the disk size next to the bars or under the disk title (Disk 1 ) or on the far right hand side of the bar, an option to turn this on and off could be added if not needed/wanted? On the Disk Heath page would it be possible to add a highlight to the important info, ie Reallocated Sector Ct and Current Pending Sector lines so that it can be seen at a glance if there are any problems or maybe a new page with all disks listed with at a glance info, bit like how mymain does it? Just a few ideas, the disk sizes on the stats page would be of help to me as I balance my drives manually though use unmenu Array Disk Status to at a glance to see size and what's left.
  12. It is like changing your car to another brand/model. All the controls are there but in different places where they used to be ... and it takes some time to get used to that ! Couldn't agree more, I wouldnt mind seeing the cache stats with the main disk stats but its your baby design it how you want it, especially like the new plugin interface especially how easy it is to now install / update / uninstall components. Not a massive fan of the whole plugin scene because of the troubles it can bring but this is what the stock plugin manager should look like, clean simple and functional. Keep up the great work
  13. Thanks for all the hard work. I appreciate it! Appreciated here too, design the GUI how you want it to be, don't bend to those that want another SF/Stock clone. I really like the tabs
  14. Lol love the people moaning about the settings page, this isn't a simplefeatures clone get used to it. If you want all the settings on one page use simplefeatures or stock, I don't see why this excellent GUI should be changed to accommodate the wingers and winers. Just my two pence.
  15. I couldn't agree more, at a bit of a loose end was going to update my server so i could run an unRaid VM and another VM with a Linux distro running webserver, ownclould, transmission and what ever else i could put on it. Never been a fan of all these plugins makes things problematic on a solid system, anyway back to topic.
  16. Maybe that's what I'm seeing at the moment all the access lights on my caddy's keep lighting up every second or so, very odd, used to just seeing just the blue power led's on not all the drives twinkling green access led's.
  17. Hi Tom Have you ssen the work bonienl been doing with Dynamix webGui, maybe worth a chat? http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=30939.msg278560#msg278560
  18. SimpleFeatures hasn't been touched for ages and has bugs, I congratulate you for bring this out looking on your github I see that you have s3 and email notify plugins for the GUI, a massive must in my book, thanks will install shortly
  19. I recently got one of these from ebay and it arrived Friday, fitted Saturday and plugged two drives into and ran a couple non correcting parity check, zero issues at all, great little card. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-2-eSATA-SATA-3-0-to-PCI-E-PCI-Express-Card-Adapter-Converter-6-0Gbps-ASM1061-/141006206664?
  20. Looks very good bonienl will take it for a spin when get 5, great to see you back and about on the forums. The Simplefeatures fan-boys will be wetting their collective panties when they see this, was getting tired of seeing simplefeatues this and simplefeatures that lol.
  21. Lol it gets better, maybe get he community to assist in choosing a name, maybe a poll on Toms final choices
  22. Keep coming back to this thread after a days work and getting excited to see all the new ideas being batted about and what could be achieved with an unRAID based distro, but please don't say its going to be called "unRAID Extreme edition" I'm sorry to say but what a shit name lol. Playing devils advocate I have a question though, who would be ultimately responsible for the maintaining the distro, Tom or is it a community effort? I ask because we've all seen how easy it can be for people / maintainers / helpers past and present to take offence and bugger off with the arse. The way I see it at the moment is that it would only take a few very intelligent individuals to get disheartened, the strop, annoyed, etc, etc, with the way things are going and leave and we could be in allot of trouble with no support, thus leaving people up shit creek with out a paddle. What guarantees do we have this isn't going to happen as I'm sure like me allot of the people here value there data as much as I do?
  23. Looks interesting and will more then likely test it when you release it be warned though I'm not Linux minded at all, but always willing to learn what i can. I was looking at running unRAID in a VM and plugins / software in another but this has got me thinking i no longer need to do this. Would i be correct in my understanding that you would install this distro with unRAID baked in to a small drive maybe an ssd or 2.5" drive and you would have all the goodness of unRAID and have a full dristo to play with and install things like serviio, transmission, ownclould and they can access all your unRAID drives? Couple of questions: With using arch as a base can you run this headless, I have no monitor or keyboard connected to server? From what Ive read arch is pretty cutting edge, wouldn't something like debian or another less cutting edge distro be a better alternative, less chance of something messing your system up? Will the pre-clear script still work and would Joe L support it in the distro based unRAID? If i was to want to put the plugins / software in a VM using Xen I take it my hardware would need to support AMD-V Technology with IOMMU, still learning here. Hope this makes sense.
  24. Thanks ironicbadger for the explanation, I spouse this is comparable to how you use flexraid, have a base system and then install flexraid, but this would have a base and all the unRaid goodness already built into it. Guess I'm just a little perplexed as to why you would need a desktop on a server, my server sits in a corner and is forgotten about, no monitor or keyboard attached, I like the fact I just open the browser and point it to the server and your in, If its got a full blown desktop wouldn't i need to use vnc or something, seems a waste of resources for something i not going to look at that often. That was one of the things that got me excited about xenserver and VM's, but your right in the fact that it requires a different thought process, I'm sure ill get it once its released, I don't know lol. Only linux distro's I've played with are ubuntu/xubuntu and a little with ubuntu server when i was playing with flaxraid many moons ago, maybe its time to have a look at arch linux and learn a little, time permitting. I do like the idea of keeping everything upto date and the speed increase would be welcomed also.
