  1. Regarding the 7-10-11 update and myMain showing 3T drives as having an HPA I have installed the 7-10-11 update and rebooted the array. I have a Hitachi HDS723030ALA640 3T drive that is showing hpa on the myMain web page. This drive is my new parity drive. It is located at /dev/sdg. I am using unRaid 5beta10. The 3T drive is plugged into the on-board controller of an Asus Maximus Extreme motherboard. Disk Information: === START OF INFORMATION SECTION === Device Model: Hitachi HDS723030ALA640 Serial Number: MK0311YHG4GDWA Firmware Version: MKAOA3B0 User Capacity: 3,000,592,982,016 bytes Device is: Not in smartctl database [for details use: -P showall] ATA Version is: 8 ATA Standard is: ATA-8-ACS revision 4 Local Time is: Tue Aug 2 20:14:22 2011 EDT SMART support is: Available - device has SMART capability. 2. Newegg emailed me a coupon code for 20% off Rosewill power supplies for 48 hours, that's what got me thinking. Don't know if I should trust my system to a Rosewill? I know I would trust a Corsair it's only amp less on the 12v rail and I like the variable speed fan. Looking at medium size 7200 rpm drive build. How is the lead length? I am using a tower with a bottom mounted p/s at the moment. quote: warranty: 5 years for Corsair and 2 years for the Rosewill Guess I got some more thinking to do.
  3. Almost afraid to ask! Anybody care to comment on this supply? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182191 Thanks
  4. I got one too! Got it real fast. It was packed real good, and came with bracket attached. Are there any bios settings I should be aware of? If I hit control-c during the initializing screen the computer resets. I thought I read something about not getting into the card setup on a different card but could not find the post. [solved] Removed flash drive. see:http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=7451.msg109346#msg109346 Is this the right cable: http://www.cablematters.com/pc-37-37-mini-sas-36p-to-sata-7fx4-16-feet-cablesff-8087.aspx
  5. I do not run Sabnzbd or Sickbeard on my unraid server. I hope JoeL or one of our other members can address running these apps on 2 gig of memory without swap.
  6. A swap file gives applications that you are running a place to swap portions of the app in and out of memory so you do not run out of memory. You could think of it as virtual memory.
  7. Are you running a swap file? I did not see one in the system log.
  8. Hi Joe L. Thanks for all your hard work on a great project. Ran into this on the Ruby install package: PACKAGE_EXTRA_URL http://rubyforge.org/frs/download.php/60718/rubygems-1.3.5.tgz downloads rubygems-1.3.5.gz (md5sum 6e317335898e73beab15623cdd5f8cff) I have learned a lot reading your code. Still helpless but starting to get it. Any thouhts on guides to learn more. Sorry if this is off topic?
  9. Purko wrote: Some EARS drives had buggy firmware and have problems if you install the jumper after the drive has been used. Any idea as to what firmware level is the problem?
  10. Thank you. I will try that. Will post if results are positive.
  11. Hi Purko: Hope you can help me out I thought that Wdalign would move everything up to sector 64 and make it look like it started at sector 63. I cannot use the jumper because drive was formatted before without it. Drive is supplied with a special format from the factory. When you setup your drive it is a one time deal. If you want to use the jumper it must be installed first. WD's instructions indicate other operating systems need no jumper. Boy is this wrong!!! Looks like I wasted this drive unless someone can come up with a solution. Right now the parity drive has no jumper and has been verified. from previous post: After adding the jumper and rebuilding parity drive this is what my syslog says over and over again: May 20 15:54:45 Tower kernel: ata1.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x0 May 20 15:54:45 Tower kernel: ata1.00: irq_stat 0x40000001 May 20 15:54:45 Tower kernel: ata1.00: failed command: READ DMA EXT May 20 15:54:45 Tower kernel: ata1.00: cmd 25/00:08:a8:88:e0/00:00:e8:00:00/e0 tag 0 dma 4096 in May 20 15:54:45 Tower kernel: res 51/01:00:af:88:e0/4f:00:e8:00:00/e0 Emask 0x1 (device error) May 20 15:54:45 Tower kernel: ata1.00: status: { DRDY ERR } May 20 15:54:45 Tower kernel: ata1.00: configured for UDMA/33 May 20 15:54:45 Tower kernel: ata1: EH complete
  12. I tried to align my WD20EARS parity drive with WDalign by Acronis. Used the bootable cd version. WDalign found the drive and partion but said there was an error and refused to continue. > Any thoughts?

  14. Thanks for the quick reply. I seem to be rebuilding parity now but had some scares along the way. When I booted the unraid server after putting the jumper on it took a long time to get past the 20EARS drive. When the parity build started it took about 160 reads and a long time before it wrote to parity the first time. Now it is writing at 58,442 KB/sec and needs 519 minutes to go. Access to the web interface is painfully slow. Do you think this is going to work?
  15. I just replaced my parity drive with a WD20EARS-00S drive without the jumper. Old parity drive a Seagate 1.5 T will be used as data drive later, it has not been touched. The parity build completed no errors. I ran a parity test without correction after parity build no errors. I had not read forum posts about this jumper issue. Now I am confused because the 20EARS is the parity drive. Do I unassign the parity device before powering down the array and adding the jumper? What do I do next? Can I just take the performance hit and run the array for awhile? added: Just encase I am running unRAID 4.5.4 unMenu 1.3
  16. Thanks purko for all your hard work. Installed untorrent-2.8.5.full-i486-1pur.tgz I have unmenu Unraid-web and untorrent all working together. Am I right in thinking that the Personal Webserver Setup tab cannot be used on the unRaid-web web page because rtorrent is using that setting? In the file /boot/config/rc.local_shutdown I had to change the line: unTorrent stop to: untorrent stop Thanks again Reed
  17. I am running 4.5.1 pro. I have replaced the file /config/go with the one from the distro because I wanted to rule out any of my addons. This error happened with 4.5 pro also. This is the error I get in the file /var/adm/go ERROR: Module md_mod does not exist in /proc/modules. When I telnet and use mc to quikview /proc/modules this is what I get: md_mod 42668 2 - Live 0xf82c6000 xor 13852 1 md_mod, Live 0xf82b0000 pata_jmicron 2684 0 - Live 0xf82a3000 jmicron 2012 0 - Live 0xf8295000 ahci 31924 3 - Live 0xf828b000 sky2 40360 0 - Live 0xf8264000 Is this a problem ? What do I do next? Do I need to list my hardware or a log file? I am very new to unraid and slackware and for that matter using a forum so I hope this is the right place to ask this question.
  18. It seems my problem with Windows 7 is Windows itself. I want to setup a hard drive in my uraid server for swap and maybe developement. I have a 40 gb drive from a Windows XP machine, it has a little over half the space used. I hooked it up to a usb adapter and connected it to my Win7 desktop to create a md5 sum, and transfer all the files to my unraid server. I would then install the drive in the uraid server. I got a lot of file does not exist errors. Imagine that. How can windows say you have a file named xxxx.xxx but it does not exist!!! These are not zero sized files. I am using MD5Summer version 1.2.0.11
  19. I am also having a Win 7 problem. I am building a unraid server, so I still have the basic package setup. When I do a recursive md5 sum from Win7 on a disk level access some come back file not found. This does not happen with WinXp machines. I built this system with 4.4.2 and upgraded to 4.5 . Downgraded to 4.4.2 Win7 md5 sums finish with no errors.
