  1. I see what you mean. I forget exactly how long the parity checks are but they are close to a full day and I know a rebuild will be the most stress the server generally gets (90% of the time all drive are spun down). With 24 drives and a long rebuild process (done 4 times - one for each replaced drive) I'm concerned about a drive failing in the process. I figured since I have the array space to clear a drive it would be better to do the upgrade without risking a failure during a rebuild.
  2. count me as another user who definitely wants to see dual parity added
  3. My primary server (see sig) needs more storage and with the case being full already my best option is to replace 2tb drives. I purchased 4 more 4tb drives and have already run them all through 6+ cycles of preclear. All drives in the server and the new drives are working fine. It's been a while since I've been down in the unRAID trenches so I 'm not entirely sure if it's possible or how to accomplish this upgrade without a rebuild. I'm fairly certain that any plan will be done one drive at a time. I've also moved all data off the first drive I intend to replace and it's completely empty. I think (but am not willing to bet on it) that I could now replace this empty 2tb drive with a freshly precleared 4tb drive drive and choose the option (I forget exactly what it is) to trust my parity. Is this correct? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  4. I shut down, reseated all drives, and restarted. All looked normal upon restart. I kicked off a non correcting parity check (I believe the previous one that found all the errors we correcting). The check is not complete yet but it has gotten past the 2tb mark and the drives that appeared problematic are only 2tb. This check shows no errors yet. No errors is great but I'm rather confused. Why were all those errors logged previously. If the last parity check was correcting then shouldn't I see lots of parity errors now that these drives are "better"?
  5. 5.0-rc15 Lots of parity updates and no logs. It would appear that all the errors came from disks 4 and 5. On this screen all disks appear to be sleeping (blinking) except for these. There is no issue browsing them. Can anyone help explain what happened and more importantly what I need to do to fix this. Thank you
  6. One of my servers is having a lot of problems and I'm not sure what exactly is going on. I suspect I'll loose data from a few disks and am OK with that but would like to salvage whatever I can. I just don't really know where to start. Syslog attached. Advice would be appreciated. Thank you syslog-2013-06-21.txt
  7. Thank you for the update, it's much appreciated. That being said I have to add ... No worries it's all in fun.
  8. Could I possibly get your thoughts on this: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=27772.msg245423#msg245423 I figured a new thread was probably better than going off on my tangent in yours. Thank you
  9. My parity drive is on the MB. I'll give that DD command a try as soon as the parity check is done.
  10. I too am seeing issues with server becoming completely unresponsive after stopping the array. So far it's happened 100% (twice) of the times I have stopped the array.
  11. The image shown above is from a parity rebuld that I'm currently running but the speed is what I used to get for my parity check for as long as I can remember. Right around the time I upgraded to 5.x, which is also about the time I maxed out my server with 24 drives, my parity check speeds went to approx 37mb/s Hardware: Supermicro C2SEA celeron 450 4gb ram 2x SUPERMICRO AOC-SASLP-MV8 sil3132 While running this rebuild I have 20 data disks. (I normally have 23 data disks but 3 were empty and I needed to rebuild parity anyway so I removed them to speed things up.) This is the same rebuild after getting past 2tb (all that remains are four 4tb drives). Speed is much better but decreases as it gets closer to finishing. I've been reading through some of the later pages in this thread Ultra Low Power 24-Bay Server - Thoughts on Build? which seem to indicate that the results I'm seeing should be expected using a PCI-e 1.0 x4 card with 8 drives. I'm not 100% sure I'm following it all though. Should't the MV8 get 1GB/s giving each of the 8 drives connected 125MB/s. Or is the 1GB/s for all PCI-e cards combined? If that's the case would the sata ports on the MB also be included in that? Are the speeds I'm seeing correct for my equipment? Is it possible to speed it up and if so what would i need to do/replace? Thank you
  12. My machines are off during night, they were booted just some minutes ago. These two plugins, ok, my fault. I thought between RC12a and RC13 it would work. I need to wait for the parity check (50 hours to go). So in three days I can reboot with RC12a and try again without these two plugins... Regards 50 hours for a parity check WOW! I thought mine were bad at 18.
  13. Very cool - thank you for the update. The only suggestion I'd make is to keep the vertical menu in place when scrolling.

    Norco 4224 Thread

I only mention this because I saw the tread come up again. I have absolutely nothing to do with this company other than being a satisfied customer. I recently found these guys when shopping for a rack to put my 4224 in. They turned out to be the least expensive place I could find it and they also have a good price on the case too. Their shipping is also reasonable and fast. http://www.ayagroup.com/product.php?productid=18564&page=1 http://www.ayagroup.com/product.php?productid=18591&page=1
  16. Even Windows 2008R2 was 64bit only
  17. 2 servers, both 32bit only. No interest in upgrading MB/CPU on either of them. I apparently misinterpreted how to test this. It appears both my servers are 64bit capable after all.
  18. Replacing 10 drives at at once - it it were me I'd probably run at least 6 preclear cycles on the new drives. It will take a while but I'd sure rather find a bad drive with the preclear than in production.

  20. I need some new drives > 2tb and want green/low power ones. Can someone clue me in to what is wrong with theses?
  21. It did finish although I received an error like this for all new titles added since the last run on 4.7. For now I'll assume this is unrelated to the upgrade to 5.0. I'm off to see what fun i may have in store getting the Popcorn Hour device to work now and hopefully to watch a movie. It seems to me this chmod command on these two files as a workaround and I'd really like to get to the bottom of what changed and how to operate like I used to.
  22. Now I get this: Ah, just noticed the edit adding this other file too. Looks to be running now.
