  1. there is nothing accessing disk2, I think i fixed the issue. From console i did a powerdown followed by a shutdown command it seemed to do a clean power down. Upon reboot, i did another clean power down from GUI and the disk unmounted
  2. Hello, Anytime i stop my server, to shut down or restart. Disk 2 will never unmount, and it forces me to do a hard reset. Once I reboot Unraid performs a parity check because of the bad shut down. It is very annoying and I am not sure how i can remedy this ? anyone knows where to start please let me know. Thanks
  3. Ok, i did that command, and it thinks there is a .pdf file in one of the directories, but there is not. I am still trying to figure out why I can not remove it cd /mnt/disk2/ disk2#: rm -r app cannot delete app/pii/game_manuals/filename.pdf no such file or directory very strange :-s I was going to do a clean power down of the server via GUI --- but it is stuck on trying to unmount disk2 now Since the unmount was unsuccessful, I was forced to to a hard power down. The directories were not deleted, and now I have to let it complete its parity-sync ... I guess my next method is to pull the drive and boot with ubuntu, and try to delete the directory that way, then pop it back into my server, and do a new parity check, so it stays deleted.
  4. I understand the command part, I was trying to mount the disk from UnRaid console, but it was not working, is there specifics to mount / delete ? mount /disk2/ ?? what would be the process ? i want to delete disk2/-----/ (which has 2 sub directories in that folder that are empty)
  5. Hello, I have a folder on my disk2 drive (which has 2 empty sub folders) which I can not delete. I have tried deleting just via Windows (over the LAN). It will not delete the folders. I can re name the folders, but I would like it gone since they are not being used. Is there a command from UnRAID console, to which I can perform this command / task, and finally be rid of these annoying folders/directories that are useless to me. If I can not do it through console, would I physically have to pull the hard disk out, and boot it with unbuntu ? That was my next thought. Thank you.
  6. I was just reading around, I have a 2tb WD EARS drive as my parity, and as I move data, parity is always writing. Is there a chance an EARS as parity is not a good drive ? Should I be using a WD Black as parity ? As well, I have NO jumpers set on the drives --- all my drives have data on them , if I jumper the drive, will that cause any issues ?
  7. I have a few EARS drives in my system, with data on them all. Are you saying it is wise to jumper pins 7-8? I am getting EXTREMELY low data writes !! (500kb-10mb/sec) when sending data to my unRAID. Thanks
  8. Hello all, I am currently sick of, what I believe is the hardware with my current setup. First time through me was using: Intel GZIS Motherboard (micro ATX) Core 2 Duo (E****) 1GB DDR2 Ram 1 Promise TX4 Sata Card and on that motherboard which is only 10/100 (on board LAN) I used an Intel 1000mbps pci ethernet card. With this setup everything seemed ok, but I did not have much room for expansion (room for only 8 drives) So I decided to go with a different setup (another cheap method) Currently I am using: Biostar A760G 1GB ram AMD X2 athlon What seem to be happening are REALLY SLOW transfers, when sending data to my server or disks (500kb/sec -- 6/10mb/sec) When I copy from my server I get approx 10mb-15mb/sec and when I move data around, copy data from disk1 to disk 8, the data transfer is REALLY SLOW again as stated above. I am not getting frustrated with what seems to be a hardware bottleneck, so any assistance would be great. I almost want to try to toss my Intel core 2 dual motherboard and CPU back in the system, but I now have 10 disks, and that hardware will only do me for 8disks Thanks.
  9. ya, it was sort of a noobish question, but i wanted to be sure. Thank you !! everyone here is always a great help !
  10. Hello, I was just about to swap my hardware but figure I’d hit the forums first. I will explain my current hardware setup, and what I am going to. My current setup is an Intel motherboard. As is the motherboard has: 4 onboard SATA 4 PCI SATA (Promise TX400) The current amount of hard drives connected is 8 in total (1 being parity) When I look at the device list in the unraid GUI, I took a screen shot for ports each drive is connected to, it looks something like this INTEL CHIPSET (onboard sata) Parity: 1f.2 SCSI 0:0:0:0 Disk1: 1f.2 SCSI 1:0:1:0 Disk2: 1f.2 SCSI 1:0:0:0 Disk3: 1f.2 SCSI 0:0:1:0 PROMISE TX400 (4 port pci sata) Disk4: 01.0 SCSI 2:0:0:0 Disk5: 01.0 SCSI 3:0:0:0 Disk6: 01.0 SCSI 0:0:0:0 Disk7: 01.0 SCSI 1:0:0:0 So I have this setup printed off, basically a screen shot of the device list, so I have matching hard disks to matching port. The hardware I am swapping to is: Biostar A760G M2+ / AMD Sempron 140 (2.7 GHz) The biostar has 6 onboard SATA + my 4 port PCI SATA (Promise tx400) Having said that, when I do swap the hard disks onto this hardware, will I have to pick the same exact port as stated above so unraid works correctly, or do I use the first 4 onboard sata with the 4port PCI SATA and leave the 2 onboard ports un-used or vacant till I expand the server? I hope that isn’t too confusing, I just want to be clear in case I run into any problems. Thank you.
  11. thanks everyone, that makes sense ! i really appreciate it, keep posting any other suggestions
  12. Hello, I need some hardware help in regards to UnRAID. My current setup is as follows: Parity : 1.5TB Disks 1 – 6 = 500GB Disk 7 = 1.5TB At the moment I have had a drive failure (disk 2) (WD 500GB) I purchased 2x2TB drives ... I know the largest drive in the set is usually for parity. My question is: Can I replace my disk 2 (500GB) with a 2TB drive, then rebuild my array. Once rebuilt, Replace my PARITY (1.5TB) with a 2TB ? or what is my best method to do, for proper rebuild and upgrade ? Any response is helpful as I need to recover that drive asap. Thanks ! As well i am going to change motherboards (Installing BIOSTAR A760G M2+) in the process of adding my new hard drives, will that cause any issues with the rebuild??? Should i rebuild my whole array with current hardware?? then swap motherboards and Hard Disks (when i have a valid parity sync) and data is rebuilt? I am going to take a screen shot of my device list, so I hope I can match new hardware port (motherboard) to correct drive serial for the UnRaid software, Correct me if I am wrong but I think that is the proper process
  13. you guys ROCK !!!! thanks for all the responses --- the super micro card i may order / purchase, i like the sounds of it, and you said it works on that BioStar board with no issues ! thats fnatastic. as for using my server for pulling data from more then one drive, its mainly used for media / streaming / storage (by me) so im going to think about it... thank you so much!!
  14. bcbgboy13 --- you posted, purchase 2x2GB sticks, your saying you recommend 4GB of ram for the UnRaid server, i think thats a bit extreme, your thoughts ?
  15. I appreciate the link, and info, I do work at a computer store so i get cost / wholesale would kingston / mushkin be ok ---- speed, type ?
  16. personally, I have been using the Promise TX400 cards on the PCI bus. Perhaps a slower card then the ones recommended, but they have been working solid for me.... hope that helps you on your way to expanding the server
  17. I just bought the BioStar A760G M2, reason i bought it was because it was in the recommended boards / build lists. The board has 6 on board sata ports, as well i am going to add 2xpromise tx400 (4 port pci/sata) cards to the PCI bus, allowing me 14 drives. I hope it works, i have not setup the board yet. Going to use a AMD Sempron 140 (2.7ghz) and if anyone can let me know, being that i will have to a max of 14 drives, should i use 1GB or 2GB of DDR2 ram Thanks !
  18. yes i have seen all those links, they once again are all MicroATX board, i stated i did not want micro atx :-/
  19. Thanks for the responses, Im looking for motherboards that maybe current users are using ? anything that can be recommended ... that sucks about the gigabyte HPA, it seems like the perfect board !
  20. Hello, Im currently having some issues trying to find a new motherboard that will work with my UnRaid server config. I have been looking at supermicro, but dont think i need to get anything new from them. here are some links i was looking at or thought might do.... http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/Core/G45/C2SEE.cfm http://www.amazon.com/SUPERMICRO-X7SBE-Motherboard-SATA-300-Ethernet/dp/B000YNT9MS/ref=pd_sim_e_6 http://www.amazon.com/Supermicro-Add-Card-AOC-SASLP-MV8-controller/dp/B002KGLDXU As well looking at Intel Pentium Dual Core E5300 Dual Core Processor LGA775 2.6GHZ 2MB 800FSB 65W Retail Box Gigabyte GA-P43-ES3G ATX LGA775 P43 DDR2 PCI-E16 PCI-E 5XPCI SATA Audio GBLAN Motherboard As well right now im using an Intel MicroATX board, its expansion is to the max, PCI 1 = gigabit LAN PCI 2 = Promise SATA TX400 (4 port SATA) so I am at my max drives (Onboard Sata = 4 || Promise controller = 4 || for a total of 8 drives. Even a older P4 Intel board would do, I want to take my array to 12 drives. any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.... thanks !
  21. I appreciate that, and i have seen that post --- but once again thats a Micro ATX board, i need Full ATX (ie more then 2 PCI slots, need 5) apprecaite the responses, keepem comming !
  22. Hello, I am a proud supporter of UnRAID and it has been working fantastic !! Right now my unraid system is a Core2Duo with a Intel microATX board 1GB ram, which is working for me. (a little over kill) I have had to install: (1x) promise sata PCI card (1x) Gigabit ethernet. Since the motherboard is MicroATX, my PCI Bus is full and i want to expand to add more drives (which is currently 8 drives). Unraid supports 16 (pro version which i own). I have been trying to make use of a older hardware i have laying around here. I tried my Intel D845WN FullATX board (P4 era) which would have been perfect, except that it LEXAR Unraid will not boot. Just sits at command prompt with a "j". and yes the BIOS is current (just flashed it 20min ago) The Lexar is working fine in my current unraid system, so i am wondering what is currently supported. Or what desktop board I can use that is cheap ! and works with the software. or Anyone please suggest help or recommendations or models of boards the current community owns/uses, PLEASE let me know! im willing to track down the hardware to buy Thank you!
