  1. I take it no one has any solution to this issue I am having ? Just sorta deal with it ?
  2. Still having the issue where when file transfering I lose connection to my network share and access to my unraid server. Yet I still can use the server via console ... Any suggestions to why this is occuring ?
  3. If anyone has any idea to a solution to this problem would be greatly appreciated
  4. There is no cache drive... and when I lose connection via my windows PC, I run over to my server console, and type 'powerdown' and it turns off. Upon reboot I have access again until if it ever faults again.
  5. Here is another syslog I grabbed today, this was after 2 successful 6-10 gb transfers , and currently copying another 14gb to server as I pulled the log Thanks for all the help ! syslog_03_01_2013.txt
  6. hm problem is still persisting ... Not sure what to do to solve this... seems to have been doing this since I have added 2x precleared EARS disks ... I will grab smart for all disks but I can't determine what this issue is here should i make a new USB ? should i upgrade my server version (i am running 4.7 pro) I may just run down to store and replace all SATA cables tomorrow to see if that helps... I checked inside my server case and made sure no power cables were close to any sata cables too just for the fun of it... trying to weed out possible problems :-/ I've been copying 6 to 10 gb at a time to disk3 and it seems to be doing fine, I realize it is also writing to parity as I copy, so it must be between parity and disc 3 (unless it is a cable issue) trying to determine from the smart reports zip POSTED -- ALL 10 disks SMART REPORTS SMARTREPORT.zip
  7. finally got home to get the SMART report on what I think is the drive I am having issues with (brand new EARS + Precleared successful) Smart report attached, let me know what you think, thanks smartdisk3.txt
  8. Any other ideas ? I attached another syslog since having the same issue. C:\>chkdsk e: /f The type of the file system is FAT. Volume UNRAID created 18/02/2008 7:16 PM Volume Serial Number is 0CA9-D46E Windows is verifying files and folders... File and folder verification is complete. Windows has checked the file system and found no problems. 513,499,136 bytes total disk space. 16,384 bytes in 1 hidden files. 16,384 bytes in 2 folders. 58,621,952 bytes in 51 files. 454,844,416 bytes available on disk. 8,192 bytes in each allocation unit. 62,683 total allocation units on disk. 55,523 allocation units available on disk. C:\> -------- Every time I shut down (after getting my syslog) and boot up, it does another parity sync syslog9.txt
  9. All was well, when I ran checkdisk on the flash, on my windows system...
  10. OK i got the problem to happen again. Where I lose my connection in mid-file transfer. I managed to copy approx 26gb to my drive (3) in question.... of a 47gb transfer. The transfer was writing to the server at approx 30-40MB/s Then it halted. So I pulled a system log from console and did a clean shut down. Pulled the log off USB. NOTE: Before I got the issue to repeat I made sure to do a parity sync, which went without fault. A clean power down. Clean boot up. Before the file transfer I spun up all disks in the array. As well any time this issue happens, I do shut it down from console. Once I boot back up it immediately/automatically runs a parity sync I booted back up to copy media from the server, thinking it might have been only when writing to the server. I am in mid-copy from the server now, and only getting 5-7mb/sec ... so strange. Thank you for the help **thoughts** maybe it has to do with making a fresh share.cfg or a fresh super.dat file / SATA cables needing replacment? I could be wrong. This started happening after 2 disks in the set were replaced. Biostar A7G0G / AMD Athlon x2 250 (3.0ghz) / 2GB DDR2 / 1x Promise Sata TX400 / Corsair HX620 / disk 0-9 (all WD) (EARS = precleared) / UnRAID v 4.7 Pro syslog4.txt
  11. Roger that, how do I pull the syslog from the local UNRAID console ? because that is the only thing i have access too when the problem occurs. I don't have telnet access. Let me know, thanks.
  12. Hello, recently when I move data to my server about mid way through the transfer it halts. I lose connection to my server shares. I can ping my server that is about it. I can still access console on my local UNRAID server, but can not shut it down or reboot it. Pinging 10.200.1.140 with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 10.200.1.210: Destination host unreachable. That is a ping request if I go to my share says network path unavailable. I can (from local console) do a 'reboot' command which thank god allows me to do a clean reboot. but that is about it. Once I reboot the server, everything is fine, but next large file transfer I do, just halts. Any suggestions ? I posted a syslog as well. Thanks syslog-01-30-13.txt
  13. Thank you, yah it was just going to be used as an NTFS external or a slave in a windoze system ... won't be installing any OS to it. Thank you for the input
  14. Hello, I was wondering if a precleared disk (any make or model) once used and taken out of the array, can that precleared disk be formatted to NTFS and used in a local computer ? *disks being precleared and have an align partition at sector 64.* I have some older disks I have taken out of my array and if I can still make use of them I would like to. Thank you
  15. Another syslog, just to update make sure things are looking right (ie, read and write access) SYSLOG-3.txt
  16. I did move the ports the USB was always connected to.... I always had it connected in front USB and moved it to the rear USB is that the issue.... So shut down my server ? attach my USB to my local PC here (windows) and run chkdisk on it ? then attach it back to the server, boot up and let the rebuild continue ? here is the new syslog after shutdown / chkdisk / reboot ---> does everything look ok now ?? I am letting the rebuild process go for the 1300 minutes (I tried to attached screenshot but I guess it is too big) So after the process finishes .... and the config is valid, what should I do to verify that this does not happen again and it keeps my config saved and doesn't think it is a new disk ?? SYSLOG-2.txt
  17. here is syslog would i maybe have to rename my current .cfg to (.old) and allow the server to make a new fresh .cfg ? perhaps once you look at the log you can tell what is going on... I am skimming through it but don't know exactly what is going on... Thanks SYSLOG.txt
  18. It was not exported, I dont know about READ ONLY though . I was just changing that via GUI to access the flash, but I can not see any files on it ... I see the flash in my network shares, when I access it it is just blank... I could shutdown the server and access it local on the PC... what do you suggest I do ? How can I pull a syslog to post on here for you?
  19. Hello I have recently upgraded a disk in my array (well 2 actually) the first one I upgraded went smooth with no issue. However the second disk I upgraded is having an issue. I upgraded it, let unraid rebuild and make a valid config of the array (everything fine and dandy) After everything was valid. I spun down the disks, and stopped the array, and then did a clean power down, as I like to make sure everything is good when it is powered up. When I powered on the array, it again thought the disk was new (upgraded) and did the whole process over again. So I let it. After the process (which takes 1200 minutes) finished I then again stopped and did a clean power down. And again it thinks it is a new disk. It is frustrating. So I turn to anyone that may have a solution to this issue. Thank you
  20. Thanks Joe, and yes I do believe you have a lot more experience I don't doubt you. It's really nice you responded so prompt! So much thanks ! The time thing is a friend brought his server to me from out of town, I told him I needed a week, but its being rushed to 2-3 days if that... I only have time to preclear one 500GB and his other 2 will not be. I just told him when you swap out the 500's for 2TB in future to preclear them then, and add to array. Thank you for all the help, I have now got a better grasp on this process as we have talked tonight. learning as I encounter new situations All the best !!
  21. ran initconfig, worked well.... going to run preclear on drives now. -W first then -n thank you for the help
  22. so what string do I use for these data drives ? and yes I am in a hurry to be honest --- basically want to do a quick preclear on these drives --- completely clear. *EDIT*as well I want to delete history on my unraid key... where it stands now it still sees the missing drives. I want it to have my old configuration deleted from the key.... *I renamed disk.cfg and super.dat --- seemed to fix the problem* should i run 2 instances of preclear?? preclear_disk.sh -z /dev/sda then preclear_disk.sh -n /dev/sda the add to the array?
  23. Hello, I am a user of preclear so I understand some aspects of it. I will briefly explain what my situation is. Previous Setup ***NOTE NEVER PRECLEARED*** 3x500GB --- WD Drives -1x500GB AADS (GREEN) -2x500GB AAKS -jumperless 1xparity 500GB (being replaced) ************************* These hard drives in question have had all their data backed up and are moving into a new hardware environment (motherboard/ram/cpu/case) Right now I have the new WD 2TB EARS (GREEN) preclearing with : preclear_disk.sh -A /dev/sda (which is the string i ALWAYS run on any of my new WD 2TB GREENS -EARS) my question is regarding the other data drives I want to preclear / format what would the preclear string be??? I thought this would work: preclear_disk.sh -z -n /dev/sda -n = fast preclear -z = formatting the drive for UNRAID but it does not like that string.... any suggestions? as well, how do I go about clearing my UNRAID USB FLASH DRIVE of all the old history or start a fresh unraid key .... make a new .dat file?? any suggestions appreciated, thank you
  24. Hello, I have not had disk sharing on ever on my unraid. But I would like to setup some type of security for my unraid for local users. In my set i have disks 1-9. All i want to do is have a password on disk 1, so only me the admin can access it. All other disks are fine to be broadcast. Is there a simple way of doing that? I tried enabling disk sharing and read the manual about its features, but I did not want that
