  1. Yah I have a good power supply, I dunno if it is files on my flash that are causing this issue, or if it is hardware, it has been like this for months and I am really getting sick of it. If I am going with a new mobo (currently using a AM3 chipset) I want to be sure it is going to do the job. I think it is this cheap old biostar motherboard, whenever I use my intel board for testing with unraid it seems to blow this board out of the water. Looking at it closely right now it may be the issue. I am thinking the MSI board would be a good bet, but can't be too sure. It's weird I am copying 10gb from my local PC to my server now (copy to disk 3) and it is going fine without lockup, however when i copy from disk 3 to disk 8 for example internally on the server, it locks up. Disk 3 and Disk 8 are both on the promise IDE TX 400 card.
  2. Still having issues with this server I can't figure out what it is still. I was just copying drive to drive on the server it self and it locked up. I would copy 800mb from disk 3 to disk 8 and it locks up. I can only hard power the server off. I can't figure out what is going on Could anyone recommend me a motherboard that may work well for me? Right now I have 10 drives in my server... 6 connected to onboard sata and 4 on a promise tx400, I only have a intel board laying around that would only get me by with 8 drives, and it is only 100mbit any thoughts ? Also, can I just switch mobos on the fly without any hassle ? was looking at this board http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=64945&vpn=760GM-P23%20%28FX%29&manufacture=MSI&promoid=1360 As well I am still using UNRAID 4.7 Pro, have not changed to 5 RC build
  3. Could anyone then just let me know what might be a new good motherboard to run for this server. This BioStar one I went with because someone recommended it to me, but whenever I use my old intel board it seems much better I am willing to buy new hardware because I am sick of this issue and i think it is hardware related. Anyy recommendations would be greatly appreciated, thank you
  4. Yah everything went well with the lost drive / rebuild, but I am still having that same issue where I can not copy data to the server without it losing the network connection. I have no idea what it is. I have added different network cards as well and still no changes. I get CAPS LOCK AND SCROLL LOCK, flashing on my keyboard on my console, with a series of error lines. I have no input to the console at this point and have no choice to do a HARD POWER DOWN. I have done memtests they succeed, tried different PCI NICs, Perhaps it is the motherboard ? Maybe it is software ? I don't know? Here are 2 separate image files that I took with my camera of the console screen. Hope it helps ? http://postimg.org/gallery/1n1guheu/79d65a4e/ Maybe there is a better motherboard I could use for this server ? Another error as I was copying / lost connection to server and can't do anything from console http://postimg.org/image/8s6odlma9/5829e791/
  5. OK I thought you had to do something different. When I do that all drives should come up BLUE until I parity check. Then I should be back to normal ?
  6. correct, my replacement drive is being pre-cleared as we speak, so that will take a good 24 hours or so, 19 generally. Then I will put that drive back in replacing the current disk 8. Allow it to rebuild. What I was wanting to do once my array is at full 100% is create an all new file set, almost basically a fresh flash. I am currently using unraid 4.7 Pro, but have these odd issues here and there, so my thoughts were creating a new config set and see how it goes. Thanks for all the feedback, I vaguely remember how to create a new config set, i think you have to rename some files to _old and replace with new ones (keeping the old ones) in case something doesn't work right.
  7. Yes it does have a red ball disk8 Not installed - 1,953,514,552 39,293,600 yet I can access the disk and play media from it. However I don't see the disk in bios, its really strange, I am preclearing a disk now to install in place of this disk 8, then I would like to do a fresh install of everything on the flash (keeping my data in tact) Do you understand what I mean, make all new config files (fresh unraid) but keeping data in tact
  8. I got home from my time away and saw my keyboard flashing (num lock scroll lock caps lock) lights. Turned on my unraid console screen and there was a bunch of errors. Couldn't input anything to unraid. Upon reboot seems disk 8 was no longer detected in bios, as well as unraid GUI. However when I access my disk 8 share I can see everything on it. How can I make a FRESH CONFIG of unraid (KEEPING ALL MY DATA) and starting everything fresh? I am in the process of preclearing a new disk to replace disk 8, but I can not remember how to make a fresh clean unraid config. I remember doing it once before, I made all new config files and shares, when I started my raid all disks were BLUE, until I started and did a parity check. Then I was able to access all my data. Any ideas, UnRAID seems really wonky and I want to try a fresh config before I scrap it. Thanks
  9. Was strange, I added the new NIC, booted my UnRaid, and 4 drives were not selected in the device list. So I selected the 4 back where they were suppose to be and it did a parity sync. I clean powered down the server via GUI (web interface) and booted up. It wanted to do another parity sync, I let parity complete. Clean powered down the server again, via GUI (web interface) and booted up. It then showed all my disks as BLUE, started the server and it is doing another parity check again. I hope after this completes I can clean power down the server and it will finally boot up with no parity check and a clean config. I was curious to why it was doing that ?
  10. It seems it was the on board network card. I put a gigabit PCI NIC card in the server and everything seems back to normal ... for now
  11. Right on buddy, will do, I will test other pc's in the house too, just to see... sigh to troubleshooting :-p I appreciate the help man, awesome of you. Love the community here
  12. yah man , I think it is the drives to be honest, I will replace cables, but I don't think that is the case, worth a try. I can download faster then I can transfer off this thing lol USB or anything local is fine speed wise (xfer from PC to USB 50mb/sec or so) thanks for the input, but I think I am going to maybe buy new drives for this thing, or scrap UnRAID, maybe a new mobo or NIC is what I need. What is a good recommended mobo to use with AMD chip ? I am willing to buy one. This biostar board isn't cutting it Thanks
  13. Why is it when I copy to my UnRAID I can copy at a good 20-30MB but when I copy from my server to lets say External USB3.0 it copies at 3-5mb max ?
  14. Awesome appreciate that. Yah it seems since I have gone back to 4.7 (formatted my usb/made bootable/copied my old backup back on) I seem not to be losing connection when writing to the server. As well there has been no faults that I can see within the few hours thus far. I am going to keep testing over the weeks to come. is this only necessary from console/telnet --> http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/Powerdown_script Performing a clean shutdown the server from GUI also have the same affect as that script?
  15. here is syslog from 5.0 could I just start a fresh flash drive, and rebuild parity ? or will it rebuild blank ? do I lose all my data ... I wish i never upgraded to 5.0 now Alright I have once again 4.7 back on my usb flash and booted.... all disks are GREEN in GUI.... I cant telnet into unraid server.... but I have no way of accessing the disks, I have been trying to find a command that will allow me to see the disks from telnet / console session but can not find it I can not access 'TOWER' from windows, network error What a mess, I am back on 4.7 after formatting the drive and loading my backup back onto the flash. Seems to be ok... I will pull a syslog and post it just to be sure... what a day :-( 2013-5.0-syslog2.txt
  16. windows, I just went to check on the parity sync process now, and cant get GUI up.... I can ping my server IP but cant access anything Connecting To tower...Could not open connection to the host, on port 23: Connect failed trying to take a syslog from console, and when i type the command, it just says 'killed' Nothing seems to be happening on the server, no hdd light going nothing, I am out of ideas, I almost want to get all data off (dont know where I can store it) then delete everything and start fresh. I have no idea how I am going to get access to my data back Trying to upload my syslog but it is too big
  17. Hello I recently upgraded to 5.0 and did the permission fix, followed instructions as per website. I noticed after I did a shutdown and reboot I could not access the GUI but I could access my disks. I then decided to go back to my 4.7 backup. I can access the GUI config is valid, but I can not access my disks/shares anything? How can I fix this ? I can see TOWER in networking, but as soon as I try to connect I can't... GUI everything looks good, not sure how to get access back to my disks I can not access my data, I am a little worried now everything in my array is gone... please help I put 5.0 back on and I managed to get it STARTED (in Maintenance Mode) and a Parity-Check is in progress. Total size:2 TB Current position: GB (0%) Estimated finish: 1159 minutes Hope this works !
  18. I am not sure how to fix this problem. Could it be the EARS drives needing newer firmware ? Someone had told me to use RED drives over the greens Guess I am going to upgrade to the RC build before swapping out all my drives .... sigh
  19. Thank you, that did not fix the issue, another memtest tonight, and possibly I'll grab 4gb this week. Other then that, just update to the current RC build, and see if that helps MEMTEST completed... 13 passes .... 0 Errors Hm should I order some RAM I wonder ? :-/
  20. Had the issue happen again, I captured another syslog after I lost connection to my server and the file transfer failed after approx 10-12gb copied. note: I had run this command -- echo 65536 > /proc/sys/vm/min_free_kbytes Will be running memtest over night tonight syslog2.zip
  21. OK just had the issue happen again. here is the syslog from console before I 'poweroff' server hope this helps. As well I tried that echo 65536 > /proc/sys/vm/min_free_kbytes command, it seems to set the value, but if you powerdown / reboot, you have to re-renter the value, is that correct or should it save that value ? Thx syslog.zip
  22. I will try that tonight, As well I'll toss some more RAM in the system, makes sense, toss good 4 to 8 gb in there. Didn't thing UnRAID needed much ram to run, DDR2 these days is pricey perhaps I'll take it to 4GB
  23. OK Thank you, I will work on all of that, that you said. Right now I am writing 22GB to disk (disk9) seems to be OK. This issue started to happen when I upgraded disk 3 from a 500GB (WD) to a 2TB (EARS) and since I use disk3 a lot, for my TV SHOWS, etc. It seems to crap out on me when writing to disk3. Mind you I won't determine it is the disk itself... yet, but very well could be. Disk3 was precleared and installed, but when I write to it, seems to lose connection Thanks. I will check the RAM again this week, could very well be that too.
