  1. Quick question before I get into this. Does plex allow you to use mouse to function everything, or do you HAVE to to a keyboard or IR remote. Reason I ask I was just testing media portal, and mouse functionally was weak, I didn't like it really at all, It was a glorified windows explorer it seemed.
  2. Hello, I am looking at media portal, and was curious if anyone got the server side of it setup with Unraid 5. I see there are a few install selections for MP2 Client and Server Client Only Server Only Custom I went to see if there was a media portal addon for unraid and was unsuccessful. I am going to toy around with this today some, guess server / client on local desktop here to see how it works. It would be nice is unraid could be the server though was my thought. Suggestions welcome, thanks :-)
  3. Hello, A recommendation I wanted to ask or suggest to the UnRaid GUI. It would be nice if there was a TOTAL column in the GUI for TOTAL SIZE of your array. Perhaps a total with and without parity. Just a suggestion I was thinking about anyways. I mean I total everything up manually in the past, not a big deal, wanted to add my suggestion, get some feedback. Thanks :-)
  4. This whole not needing -A or needing -A when preclearing with version 5 (preclear 1.13) is confusing. I just precleared and 4TB and a 3TB WITHOUT -A option. The script itself stated it would not be set to sector 63 and WOULD NOT BE 4k aligned (perhaps that is just info from 1.12 that was never updated in the script) However things seem to be fine I guess without the -A option for disks bigger then 2.2TB. Perhaps the script can be edited sometime to avoid the confusion ?
  5. They are both added. When I added them to the array, there was that check box option to clear the newly added disks (all zeros) lose all info etc. Right now both new disks are marked BLUE, 2TB is clearing (via GUI) 3TB is next in line, which shouldn't take near as long.
  6. its on or clearing the 2TB right now (old parity drive) which was not pre-cleared the 2nd time after being used as a parity. However it was pre-cleared when I first bought it and added it to the array. WDC_WD20EARS <-- Precleared initially with -A (preclear 1.12 unraid 4.7) over a year ago is my estimate The 3TB is brand new, never used, and pre-cleared. (preclear 1.13 unraid 5.0)
  7. They were already precleared so I thought I could just add them and format them. I guess I jumped the gun, my old parity is being 'cleared' via unraid GUI. I will prob be fine, should have ran SMART and Preclear on the old data drives again but didn't However I am only at 23% on the 2TB (old parity) I could cancel it. -- Clearing, 24% complete... 2 TB Clearing 1 14199217 the 3TB however was already precleared.
  8. Check post 12, I posted both links. Use this: http://code.google.com/p/unraid-scripts/downloads/detail?name=preclear_disk-1.13.sh&can=2&q= When you load the script at the top of the screen before you select 'Yes' it should show version number.
  9. You betcha, yup. Doing parity after each drive is rebuilt. I can't remember when if when I replace the disk (2TB for 3TB) if it will show up blue, want me to format, then rebuild. That's why I asked earlier if I needed to format / preclear them quickly again. Each swap+rebuild, gets a manual parity check right after the rebuild is complete.
  10. Alright, right on, yah I just tossed my 4TB in and its running a check now, so once that is complete im pulling a 2TB and adding a 3TB, and again, rebuild/sync, after that adding the 2tb and 2 tb, etc what's the command to run SMART on the old parity and old data disk, I can toss it in another system now and do that.
  11. Quick question again... 2TB parity (going to be used as data) replacing a 500GB 2TB data (going to be used as data) replacing andother 500GB do I have to preclear these old disks again, or format them somehow before putting them in place of the 2 current 500GB's ?
  12. Copy that, I figured as much, Thank you.
  13. Wanted to ask, when expanding your array, it is always best to do a parity sync before changing any hardware, right ? (I usually do anyways). As well, I am changing my parity (2TB for 4TB) but I am going to use that 2TB replacing a 500GB disk. And I am also adding a 3TB, for a 2TB, and using that 2TB to replace another 500GB. I am thinking it is wise just to do the drives one by one. ie. Swap Parity, Boot, Rebuild/Sync, Shutdown, replace disk in array, rebuild/sync, etc.
  14. Perfect thanks, I thought all looked good but doesn't hurt to be sure.
  15. Thanks, here is the report, anything to be worried about. I see it says something about temp, mind you it ran at 28C whole time. If everything looks fine, I am going to start my 3TB next. 1.13 == invoked as: ./preclear_disk.sh /dev/sdb == WDC WD40EFRX == Disk /dev/sdb has been successfully precleared == with a starting sector of 1 == Ran 1 cycle == == Using :Read block size = 8225280 Bytes == Last Cycle's Pre Read Time : 11:25:13 (97 MB/s) == Last Cycle's Zeroing time : 10:00:48 (110 MB/s) == Last Cycle's Post Read Time : 23:32:50 (47 MB/s) == Last Cycle's Total Time : 44:59:53 == == Total Elapsed Time 44:59:53 == == Disk Start Temperature: 25C == == Current Disk Temperature: 28C, == ============================================================================ ** Changed attributes in files: /tmp/smart_start_sdb /tmp/smart_finish_sdb ATTRIBUTE NEW_VAL OLD_VAL FAILURE_THRESHOLD STATUS RAW_VALUE Temperature_Celsius = 124 127 0 ok 28 No SMART attributes are FAILING_NOW 0 sectors were pending re-allocation before the start of the preclear. 0 sectors were pending re-allocation after pre-read in cycle 1 of 1. 0 sectors were pending re-allocation after zero of disk in cycle 1 of 1. 0 sectors are pending re-allocation at the end of the preclear, the number of sectors pending re-allocation did not change. 0 sectors had been re-allocated before the start of the preclear. 0 sectors are re-allocated at the end of the preclear, the number of sectors re-allocated did not change. ============================================================================
  16. so... root@tower:# /tmp cp <filename> /logs/<filename.txt> ?
  17. I am trying to pull (save) a logfile (as above) for preclear from console (local) to my flash, can't seem to figure command, any ideas ? cp /var/log/syslog /boot will this capture my preclear session, my thoughts are it may not. I just have a question about a preclear result since the drive just finished , I don't think it is something to worry about but I wanted to post it to be sure. Thanks.
  18. I had the same thing you did, but as per Joe L. I did not use the -A as they said ignore it, crossing my fingers because I am pre-clearing a 4TB drive right now, and that will take 24-48 hours.
  19. I pulled it from here http://code.google.com/p/unraid-scripts/downloads/detail?name=preclear_disk-1.13.sh&can=2&q= Looked here, but the .sh file had a date of 2011 http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=2817.0 Just noting that
  20. Thanks graycase, I will use the -n, thanks for the heads up, I am pumped. I love that my server is running super stable again. Going to expand it and get working on PLEX on it :-) I always do a parity check before adding drives and after, good looks much appreciated! I can't thank the community enough
  21. Right on, in the past anyways I have just usually ran one, and it seemed ok. Wanted to check regardless, thank you.
  22. Hello, I have on order some new hard drives for my array. Here is my plan so you know what I am doing. Replacing 2TB parity with 4TB parity Replacing 2TB Data Drive with 3TB Data Drive. I still have room to use the replacement drives in my array. These drives (2tb) were used since UnRAID 4.7. I am positive I PreClear'ed my Parity back when I installed it on 4.7. However I am unsure if I ran PreClear on that 2TB data drive in question. What I want to know is after I get my new drives preclear'ed,.... The old 2TB data drive that I am going to use to expand the array (it could be preclear'ed) can I just preclear it again to be sure I have done so. To sum it up, can you preclear a drive as much as you want (this situation I am just unsure if it was) Thank you
  23. you guys rock ! thanks for all the feedback, I am thinking I am going to enjoy this! I want to get home and try it and see how the new eye candy works! having plex all over the house all served from my server is going to be awesome! I wonder then if I will look into PlexPass lol
  24. hm alright cool, yah I have 2 users on my server, admin and guest... perhaps I should make a new user with just access to the disks/shares with media that I want plex to see or use? It will probably all make sense once I am actually setting it up and going though the steps, it can't be that hard, right now I am just thinking about how it works
