  1. All Hard drives are directly connected to the Motherboard. This drive is connected to the sata and power that we have historically run preclears on old workstation drives. Parity checks have been initiated with other drives hooked up to this. Yes No 4.6 did not have a "Correct any Parity-Check errors" box. Just to throw another wrench into the equation, I have upgraded to current 5.0 - SHOULD I select correct?
  2. well... the first 4 passes look good... I am actually hoping for an error come morning.

  4. we have kicked off a manual parity check every month (it is one of our scheduled maintenance items). With the exception of a failing disk awhile back all has been fine. The memory had memtest 86 (or+) run on it for 1 week a few years back and all was clean. I will run an overnight tonight. This is what bothers me.

Disk ‘New’ Smart Let me also note that this machine is used to preclear disks that are being retired out of our workstations prior to recycling – the sata cable and power cable of the new disk are the ones that we have used MANY times with no prior issues. smartctl -a -d ata /dev/hdd (--) smartctl version 5.38 [i486-slackware-linux-gnu] Copyright (C) 2002-8 Bruce Allen Home page is http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net/ === START OF INFORMATION SECTION === Device Model: WDC WD20EFRX-68AX9N0 Serial Number: WD-WMC301829952 Firmware Version: 80.00A80 User Capacity: 2,000,398,934,016 bytes Device is: Not in smartctl database [for details use: -P showall] ATA Version is: 9 ATA Standard is: Exact ATA specification draft version not indicated Local Time is: Thu Jul 18 08:56:47 2013 Local time zone must be set--see zic m SMART support is: Available - device has SMART capability. 12. Moved to new thread during debugging: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=28652.0 Good day Fellow UnRaiders - I NEED HELP My work production rig is causing great grief – last week the power went out during a monthly parity check and the machine went down after a couple of minutes (it is on a small APC UPS) . After coming back online and running parity check the system showed ~800 corrections. Currently the system has 5 1 TB disks (1 Parity). We need to expand it, so I have precleared a 2TB drive three times to replace the Parity with and we plan on running a single preclear on that drive then adding it to the array. Yesterday I ran another parity check before swapping out the disks – the parity was updated 12,629 times. I am rerunning another parity check – it is 28% through and has already corrected 4,304 sync errors. I have NOT made any changes to the array yet. All disks are connected directly to motherboard headers The version is 4.5.6 Pro
  13. Good day Crew, Today I added an admin account with read/write permissions Then I switched SMB Security Settings security from public to secure and gave the admin read/write As expected, anyone can now go to //tower/share and READ the files 1 - On my windows machine (7) I do not seem to be able to prompt a mapping to login as admin... hence I cannot write to the share. How to I enter the login info for an admin user 2 - On any machine I can still navigate through the network to read/write/delete files from FLASH, Disk1, Disk2, etc. How do I disable this (from a curious wife/child destruction)? Thank you all!
  14. Thanks! What I am really thinking about doing is having the following: Windows Work Machine - For office use, gaming, encoding when new purchases are made. This machine changes frequently and tends to be VERY power hungry. No need to keep hard drives full of storage on this rig. This machine should only have network access for read/write to the file storage location Tower - My main storage repository. Holds ALL my windows backups, work files, music files, movie files Tower2 - a backup of all the storage repository. Holds a copy of all the data should anything happen to the first Tower. **** Originally my main file repository was on my Windows machine on Mirrored disks. Now my main file repository is on my Unraid machine with a single disk fault tolerance. I would like to do away with my Windows machine storage and follow Gary's advice: (a) Configure the backup server for Wake-on-LAN (b) Set up a scheduled task on either a Windows PC or the main UnRAID server to do the following: -> Send a magic packet to turn on the backup server -> Wait 2 minutes (or whatever time it takes to boot) -> Run a synchronization utility to update your backups -> Send a "Shutdown" command to the backup server So now the search is on in how to use rsync, the pluses and the minuses
  15. My current Main Server is a Win 7 Machine (2500K processor) with 8 HD's (3 TB), each pair in a mirrored array. This is what I initially stored all my legally owned movie collection on. Now my entire collection is copied to my always on unraid server (in my signature) with 1 parity drive. Is there an option to have an unraid machine that I turn on once a month to backup the main unraid machine so that I can do away with the power hungry Win 7 Machine? I can sell the Adaptec SAS controllers and nearly fund an entire 2nd Unraid box. I already have enough disks to re-purpose from the win 7 machine. Thanks!

  18. 24 TB of Storage in that case -> 1 - 4 TB 3.5 Parity 3 - 4 TB 3.5 (on SAS card) 6 - 2 TB 2.5 (on Mobo sata) 1 - (4 in 1) SUPERMICRO CSE-M14TB 2.5" mobile rack http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816101190 1 - 2.5” Spare (precelared) 1 - 3.5” Spare (precelared) ...and ... stick with 5400 RPM drives. ...and ... do NOT forget the APC UPS!
  19. In the last 2 years at work - zero issues 24x7... and now a Hard drive failure.... but it is OK because I have a pre-cleared disk ready to go Of course, this happens on one of the very few times the lime-tech forum is down and I wanted to be CERTAIN that I could just stop the array, select the fresh disk for disk 2, and then start the array.... before doing it! Any chance we can download a static copy of: http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/Un-Official_UnRAID_Manual http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/UnRAID_Manual and any other MUST haves from: http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/UnRAID_Wiki Thanks for the great product and community support everone
  20. First thanks for Joining.... Now the real question... are the Toms a case of Sybil gone good... left brain personality works on one task while right brain personality works on another?
  21. Supermicro was very clear about it. Server grade boards don't need S3 and so it is not in the BIOS. Well in that case perhaps such motherboards are not suitable for home server use? My Asus Workstation class motherboard has been rock solid! My SuperMicro X7SPA-HF-D525 build with 4 4TB drives cost to run: At 100% load, the server will cost ~$45/year to run At idle, the server will cost ~$18/year to run 90+ % of the time will be in idle.... I can live with the $1.50/month and not care about suspend.
