  1. removed the security from the Time Machine share and made it public, reconnected it to the Mac, and I can see it now in time machine, will mess about with security settings and see where I go.
  2. I have the SMB settings set, and my export is set to Time Machine on the share - I just can't get time machine on the Mac to see it. It was all working fine on 10.14 before I clean installed and has been great for the past 3 years - usually I do an in place upgrade but now and then I like to clean the machine, its been 4 years or so since I did a clean install. This time I wiped the machine and installed clean (I do every few years) so not sure if the clean install is causing anything I may restore my disk image before I wiped the machine and do an in place upgrade just to see if it works ok then
  3. Done a clean install of Catalina today, and am trying to get time machine running again. I remember a thread a while back about SMB, and the suggestion that fixed it for me was to re mount the time machine share and I could then see the share in time machine and use it to backup. Im back at that stage again, and I've mounted, un mounted a few times the share, there is a command to enable the os to backup to an 'unsupported' volume... defaults write com.apple.systempreferences TMShowUnsupportedNetworkVolumes 1 and ive entered that, but still can't see the mounted time machine share from unraid to be able to back up to it.. Anyone have it working? Thanks
  4. Thanks for the tip. Will the fan secure straight onto the card?
  5. thanks again - there is now a patch in that post MS hot fix KB4522355 which fixes this problem - ive installed that, tested, and no longer happens
  6. hi, yep i am - thank you for the link, will take a look now.
  7. I have a clean Win10 VM configured, with 4 CPU cores (and their associated hyperthreads) assigned, plus 4gb ram. I haven't timed when it happens, but i can boot up the vm, use it, and then come back to my unraid server, and find the first CPU core assigned to the VM running at 100% - htop shows its the VM - shutdown the vm, goes back to normal. Looking on the Windows VM when the CPU is 100% in unraid - there isn't any processes or high CPU use shown xml for the vm is below: <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?> <domain type='kvm'> <name>Windows 10</name> <uuid>xx</uuid> <metadata> <vmtemplate xmlns="unraid" name="Windows 10" icon="windows.png" os="windows10"/> </metadata> <memory unit='KiB'>4194304</memory> <currentMemory unit='KiB'>4194304</currentMemory> <memoryBacking> <nosharepages/> </memoryBacking> <vcpu placement='static'>8</vcpu> <cputune> <vcpupin vcpu='0' cpuset='4'/> <vcpupin vcpu='1' cpuset='12'/> <vcpupin vcpu='2' cpuset='5'/> <vcpupin vcpu='3' cpuset='13'/> <vcpupin vcpu='4' cpuset='6'/> <vcpupin vcpu='5' cpuset='14'/> <vcpupin vcpu='6' cpuset='7'/> <vcpupin vcpu='7' cpuset='15'/> </cputune> <os> <type arch='x86_64' machine='pc-i440fx-3.1'>hvm</type> <loader readonly='yes' type='pflash'>/usr/share/qemu/ovmf-x64/OVMF_CODE-pure-efi.fd</loader> <nvram>/etc/libvirt/qemu/nvram/62800762-dbd7-76ce-e9cd-380deed9a78f_VARS-pure-efi.fd</nvram> </os> <features> <acpi/> <apic/> <hyperv> <relaxed state='on'/> <vapic state='on'/> <spinlocks state='on' retries='8191'/> <vendor_id state='on' value='none'/> </hyperv> </features> <cpu mode='host-passthrough' check='none'> <topology sockets='1' cores='8' threads='1'/> </cpu> <clock offset='localtime'> <timer name='hypervclock' present='yes'/> <timer name='hpet' present='no'/> </clock> <on_poweroff>destroy</on_poweroff> <on_reboot>restart</on_reboot> <on_crash>restart</on_crash> <devices> <emulator>/usr/local/sbin/qemu</emulator> <disk type='file' device='disk'> <driver name='qemu' type='raw' cache='writeback'/> <source file='/mnt/cache/vms/Windows 10/vdisk1.img'/> <target dev='hdc' bus='virtio'/> <boot order='1'/> <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x00' slot='0x05' function='0x0'/> </disk> <disk type='file' device='cdrom'> <driver name='qemu' type='raw'/> <source file='/mnt/user/isos/windows10/Win10_1903_V2_English_x64.iso'/> <target dev='hda' bus='ide'/> <readonly/> <boot order='2'/> <address type='drive' controller='0' bus='0' target='0' unit='0'/> </disk> <disk type='file' device='cdrom'> <driver name='qemu' type='raw'/> <source file='/mnt/user/isos/virtio-win-0.1.160-1.iso'/> <target dev='hdb' bus='ide'/> <readonly/> <address type='drive' controller='0' bus='0' target='0' unit='1'/> </disk> <controller type='pci' index='0' model='pci-root'/> <controller type='ide' index='0'> <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x00' slot='0x01' function='0x1'/> </controller> <controller type='virtio-serial' index='0'> <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x00' slot='0x04' function='0x0'/> </controller> <controller type='usb' index='0' model='ich9-ehci1'> <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x00' slot='0x07' function='0x7'/> </controller> <controller type='usb' index='0' model='ich9-uhci1'> <master startport='0'/> <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x00' slot='0x07' function='0x0' multifunction='on'/> </controller> <controller type='usb' index='0' model='ich9-uhci2'> <master startport='2'/> <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x00' slot='0x07' function='0x1'/> </controller> <controller type='usb' index='0' model='ich9-uhci3'> <master startport='4'/> <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x00' slot='0x07' function='0x2'/> </controller> <interface type='bridge'> <mac address='52:54:00:1b:f5:e4'/> <source bridge='br0'/> <model type='virtio'/> <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x00' slot='0x03' function='0x0'/> </interface> <serial type='pty'> <target type='isa-serial' port='0'> <model name='isa-serial'/> </target> </serial> <console type='pty'> <target type='serial' port='0'/> </console> <channel type='unix'> <target type='virtio' name='org.qemu.guest_agent.0'/> <address type='virtio-serial' controller='0' bus='0' port='1'/> </channel> <input type='tablet' bus='usb'> <address type='usb' bus='0' port='1'/> </input> <input type='mouse' bus='ps2'/> <input type='keyboard' bus='ps2'/> <graphics type='vnc' port='-1' autoport='yes' websocket='-1' listen='0.0.0.0' keymap='en-us'> <listen type='address' address='0.0.0.0'/> </graphics> <video> <model type='qxl' ram='65536' vram='65536' vgamem='16384' heads='1' primary='yes'/> <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x00' slot='0x02' function='0x0'/> </video> <memballoon model='virtio'> <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x00' slot='0x06' function='0x0'/> </memballoon> </devices> </domain>
  8. Apologies, i wasn't listening - thanks for sorting
  9. just a question on disk image - aren you using the automated backup script - as i tried it, and out doesn't like the qcow2 Im using APFS
  10. i think the error is a non error - i did a google for it, and it happens on other systems - ive just looked in my VM log and i have it in mine alsoi think the error is a non error - i did a google for it, and it happens on other systems - ive just looked in my VM log and i have it in mine also You say you get an error after the OS installs - what happens on screen, does it just freeze - does it get to a mac login screen
  11. should be ok then, i have a 2700 (non x) do you have all your HVM and IOMMU stuff set to enable VMs - you have VMs working already (other windows/linux) whats your CPU mode say it is in the template/xml?
  12. no worries, understand about the media, just thought it may same time if there was already a copy locally. Its worked perfectly btw - i have a VM running now - what's there score with updates and stuff like that, can they be installed?
  13. Been ages since i built a PC, last unraid was in a HP micro server, so took me a good amount of reading/reasearch to pull some components together i hoped would work OK. Hopefully this may help someone else going down the same path... Use case was: As a Nas Multiple VMS 6 or 7 dockers, (Sab, Sonar, Radar, emby, Unifi etc) I eventually settled on the below Fractal Design Node 804 Case Enclave 600w 80 Plus Gold Modular PSU AMD Ryzen 2700 CPU (8 core 16 thread) 32gb Crucial Ballistix Sport 2666mhz DDR4 Ram Asrock B450M Pro4 M/Board (1 onboard fast NVME slot, plus a second on board M.2 slot) Nvidia 710 Graphics card (i did buy a £5 cheep old PCIe card from eBay - it didn't work, and needed to get the system running, so bought the cheapest new card i could find!) Western Digital BLACK 500GB SN750 M.2 2280 NVME PCI-E GEN3 SOLID STATE DRIVE (used for Cache) Western Digital BLUE 3D NAND 500GB M.2 2280 SOLID STATE DRIVE (used as an unassigned drive in the m.2 slot) - i did buy a crucial M.2 drive here, but it ran SOOOO hot, 50degres idle - so sent that back and got this WD, and its a good 20 degrees cooler Dell H310 Perc HBA Card, flashed to IT Mode Amazon SAS to 4 SATA Forward breakout cable From the old system, i put in my 4 WD Red 3tbs, these 4 disks connected to the Dell H310 I put in my old 250gb Crucial SSD as a 'download' drive for sab to use, connected to the motherboard SATA All working really well - all the SSD's trim OK (was worried about this, as some reports of some drives not trimming in Linux) i have my WD reds in the Array - the 500gb NVME as cache, with VMs and Docker/Appdata the other 500gb m.w SSD is there for all my audio MP3s that were on my Mac - my whole house sonos system accesses them and i always wanted them off the mac - i tried before on the array, and as i have it spun down, its a pain when using it for sonos to have to wait and timeout when it cant access the media, so i decided to put the audio files on an unassigned SSD, and then back this up to the array. iTunes on the mac also connects to this, so again, it needed to be instant. I also dabble in music production, and have 200gb worth of sample CDs, so these are on the ssd too - keeps them off the main PC, and gives me instant access to them - again - backed up to the array The Dell HBA card will run 8 SATA disks, so room for expansion. The motherboard can run 4 sata drives, but need to reduce that by 1 if using the second M.2 slot (as i am) Case will house 10 disks, and its quite compact. Nicked this one from the web, as didn't take a pic of it when complete!
  14. just thinking ahead, would it be possible to use a pre downloaded mac OS installer - to save time on the install if it read from a local installer instead of going to the internet? Appreciate though that the plug in is catering to people who maybe dont use a mac already, so wouldn't have access to the installer - thus a brilliant idea for the container to get the software too... Maybe one to go at the bottom of the nice to have enhancement list at some point in time
  15. Spot on i did use the template editor first to change my paths, which then royally messed things up! Ive pasted your xml in, and am away again thanks for your patience

  17. sorry, being a prat - in the last post, xml was wrong
  18. thank you, i just rushed in and tried it I now get to the point where it seems to boot, but now i can't seem to open a VNC session quick enough to (i assume) press any key, before the EFI bios boot screen appears and I'm at a shell prompt
  19. Great idea for a container! Ive just tried running and i get to the point where the log tells me to stop and start the array, then start up the vm, and get an error: Execution error operation failed: unable to find any master when i installed and ran the docker container, these are the settings i used, so unsure where its still getting /mnt/user/domains from
  20. Still no better i re-downloaded the ISO from Microsoft (oddly it was version 1809Oct_v2 where as i was using 1903_v2) I also downloaded what seem to be the latest VirtIO drivers (0.1.171) but still the same problem Build the machine, works fine, disconnect the vnc, and then the vnc won't recount, but the machine is accessible via RDP
  21. good call - will try im using a fat client for the vnc, browser doesn't work at all
  22. posting at the same time Yeah, i installed the driver from the QXLDOD directory, im sure when i was trying to get these going first, i tried the 'normal' QXL directory, and that caused the machine not to work (unless it was the same symptoms)
  23. i also have a centos VM running, and that seems fine, tbh i never need the VNC connect to the centos, but every time i try the vnc connection, its perfectly fine, it just seems to be to this windows 10 vm
  24. yeah odd - im running stable 6.72 at the moment.
