  1. Long story short: - My on-board LAN is dead (before unRAID install), but is detectable (reports as r8169). - I have (before unRAID install), a PCI LAN card, that is detected (as 8139too), but only plays as 100Mbit. It is a gigabit card and I am positive it worked as such, but cannot verify (previous OS is dead). - I just got a new LAN card, PCIe, I left the other on (because I was sure I will be in this situation) and the new one is not detected at all. The card is tp-link TG-3468. I am positive Linux supports it. Note that the LED is on, so physically is detected by the switch. Switch again (!!!) shows it as 100 but it CAN be that it is in some "compatibility" mode until a driver is used. HOW do I make unRAID detect it? Assume minimal Linux knowledge.
  2. Is the process still so complex in Oct 2019, for the linux untrained? I want to share my /mnt/user to my NethServer . Can I have a step by step "stupid-proof" guide?
  3. Diagnostics attached. Will replace the card with a PCIe in any case (since using a PCI one doesn't feel ok anyway). This works I hope: TP-Link TG-3468 quasar-ultima-diagnostics-20191020-2127.zip
  4. OK newer news. Verified cable (used cable and port from known working gigabit machine). Also my SBS2011 doesn't boot, so I cannot verify OS issues. Seems, that my on-board LAN card is dead (although reports no error in Windows or Linux) and I had (in the past and don't even remember it) installed a PCI LAN card. The card reports as eth0 in unRAID and reports as "8139too". The on-board reports as eth1 (with interface down) and model "r8169". This "8139too" works ok in unRAID?
  5. I will verify with the cable. Port I already swapped. Again note, this works fine in Win SBS2011 (but as I said will verify again). This definitely looks like something with the OS.
  6. The motherboard is Gigabyte Z68A-D3H-B3 (with latest EFI). The LAN chip is Realtek RTL8111E. When I was using this a Win SBS2011, it worked fine with gigabit connection. (and will verify as my SBS disk is still intact) Nothing changed physically. (I did try and swapped with known gigabit port) How can I force this to work gigabit? Can it be a linux driver issue? This is a pretty serious issue. I have already started migration (migrating 9 data disks from NTFS and pushing into array one by one, installing various docker and VMs), which possibly I wouldn't, if I had noticed this. How can I help you, help me?
  7. Yes but the cache disk if it exists, it is used for caching anyway ain't it? So it "slows down" (ok I suspect, not much) apps on same disk and adds to SSD wear. If the ports are available and I can have either: 120GB SSD + 240GB SSD for €65 500GB SSD for €75 ...which one should I choose? (leaning towards the 2nd option but...)
  8. Well title says it all. Since I am planning things and have SATA ports to spare, I wonder if it is good practice to keep Cache for... erm caching and VMs/Docker/Plugins to go to other disk. Probably both as SSD (a larger for caching and smaller for rest). Bonus questions: - What happens if a fresh transfer is larger than Cache SSD? Example I have 120GB SSD and try to move to array 200GB of updated data (includes both new data and existing "changed" data). How does unRAID handle that? - Can "mover" be forced to run? - If I swap disks in the future, let say I start from spare mechanical disks and in a month I get some SSD... how easy is it to move (a) cache, (b) VMs, (c) Docker stuff?
  9. Does this have a way to limit the number of files kept? (or days or any kind of limit that will prevent the backup disks to overflow)
  10. I plan to re-implement unRAID at home (10+ years after I was last using it - unRAID, not home ). I wonder if I can use a "temporary" cache disk (non-SSD), that I already have, so that I can go forward with plugins etc. (I am thinking of using a Zentyal or Nethserver VM for my home server needs) Then after some time that I can get the proper SSD, move things to this disk and also implement cache there instead. Possible? How? Also, since vital stuff is in cache disk for most people AFAIK, is there an "unRAID" way of implementing either redundancy (mirror disk), or backup of vital folders?
  11. I am leaning towards implementing a VM after all. Either Zentyal or Nethserver. They both implement Active Directory and can function as Domain Controllers. They both have DNS and DHCP services. They both have email support, including webmail. They both implement calendar and contacts in their mail system. I will now evaluate both and see what fits me better (already have both in VMs on my Windows to test, using VirtualBox... already tested ClearOS -it lost- and considered one other that lost before I even installed it). Would be great is someone has already made the comparison (already read a couple older online, but first hand experience is better - esp. considering unRAID environment) and can help.
  12. I know hub.docker.com, but how do I implement those in unRAID?
  13. As mentioned in this thread: ...I am looking among other things, about something to replace my Exchange server. I see KerioConnect is a possible alternative supporting mail/contacts/calendar. Correct? I also see in the vendor's site, that KerioConnect is nowadays commercial. So... will this plugin work? I see it is based on a build a few years ago and never updated. Also, does this server support pop-connector functionality? (i.e. download email from other server) Is this plugin maintained at all? Any alternative for mail/contacts/calendar?
  14. I am looking for a more complete solution (a la Exchange - already have Exchange in the server that will go offline to turn to unRAID), for mail/contacts/calendar. Saw a KerioConnect plugin, but not sure if it actually works and it must be really old, as KerioConnect AFAIK is not free any more.
  15. Is there a way to browse CA contents WITHOUT having unRAID installed? I am planning to return to unRAID after many years (before any plug-in functionality) and I am looking to actually "design" things before implementing them and find out first if functionality I want from day one, actually exists. (here is link to original thread)
  16. Pointers for these remain: - A free-for-home-use solution for mail/contact/calendar (I don't think nextcloud's solution is free)... - Domain controller services (central login credentials, preferably in sync with unRAID shares user access). - DNS/DCHP. I believe those two services are pretty basic Linux functionality, so I don't think I need over-complicated solutions, just (possibly) a plugin to enable and configure those on unRAID's own "backbone" OS? Yes/no? Many suggest phSense (in VM!), although it is probably an overkill just for these features that are already more or less IN linux basic functionality. - (welcome) Torrent. - (welcome) Steaming services (Plex, something else?). - (NEW) Is there a way to browse this "CA" without having unRAID yet installed? I want to browse what is available to plan things up.
  17. Understood. Good that I have this flexibility. My setup also predates those options (remember I did have unRAID when it was still young product), so I already have VM folders in my current array. I will evaluate the best options. Thanks again.
  18. OK one more question, for the VM's and possibly appdata. Why not use an array share? (separate share for VM's and separate for appdata) Possible?
  19. Am I correct to assume that most "extra functionality" needs the cache disk? Or am I wrong? I mean I think the cache disk takes the role of storage for anything extra to basic unRAID as unRAID is hosted on a (usually small and slow) USB stick? Also to go back to OP, I am still looking (preferably in docker form, as I don't want to waste limited resources for a full VM): - A free-for-home-use solution for mail/contact/calendar (I don't think nextcloud's solution is free)... Yes/no? - (welcome) Torrent. - (welcome) Steaming services (Plex, something else?).
  20. Thanks man. Didn't notice the example. I will probably ask in that thread.
  21. I registered for Spaceinvader One's tutorials, they seem VERY good. Seems I'll be able to add docker containers for most (if not all) of my requirements. NEW QUESTION: I do a monthly sync of 3 USB disks back to my server (i.e. most of the times the USB disks have some new content ALONG with already synced content and I mirror the new/updated data to the array). How can I implement this without the use of an extra computer (except unRAID server)? i.e. put disk on USB, mount it easily for unRAID to sync and run some sync command to my array.
