  1. With your flurry of activity this weekend, can we expect to see a couchpotato package soonish? The down-loaders trifecta as it were Thanks again for all your hard work.
  2. The Corsair gold powersupply I just got has a 7-Year Warranty
  3. All, First of all I would like thank the creators and contributors to the UnMenu addon. It works well, and really expands on the functionality of UnRaid... thank you! Now to my question. As I go through the UnRaid addons, as well as those on this forum, I started thinking of the impact some of these addons could have on the life of my flash drive. I've also seen some addons offer the option to choose the install directory, while others don't. I'm assuming that the authors of these various addons have taken this into account, but I figured it couldn't hurt to verify. So I've listed below the addons that I'm going to be installing that I feel could cause a number of writes. Any feedback I could get would be appreciated. Thanks in advance! AirVideo (I'm not sure if while converting files that it doesn't create a temp directory) Transmission (I see this already has the option to install to a new location) CouchPotato & Dependencies Sickbeard & Dependencies SABnzbd & Dependencies (thanks prostuff1) Subsonic & Dependencies
  4. Johnm, Did you have any issue's with the Supermicro board and running memtest? Memtest seems to hang before it can even start one test, though this is a know issue with some mobo's and legacy USB support. However, if I disable legacy USB support, my flash drive stops working. Makes it hard to test if that's the problem Thanks in advance.
  5. Had to clear CMOS and do a battery pull. Problem seems to be fixed now... now to finish the build
  6. Yeah, I had actually changed the type of memory I got, but I guess I forgot to update my initial post. I'm hoping to pull it apart tonight or sometime this weekend and see if I can find an issue. As for running wires under the mobo, I've been doing that for years (though never power cables) and have never had an issue. And we're talking systems that have been running for far longer than they should be. Having said that though, I'll give everything a thorough check and see what I can find. Thanks for the advice
  7. So this build is cursed, or I'm just having a rash of bad luck with it. I finally got everything put together last night (with the exception of the parts I'm still waiting on). Being anxious to get everything up and running, I put everything in the case, plugged it all in, and.... nothing. Well not quite nothing, everything turns on for about 2 seconds before turning off... then the cycle repeats until I power off the PSU. Out of all the various systems I've built, I've never seen this happen before, though I suspect I have a short somewhere. It really is my own fault for not testing everything before putting it in the case... but c'est la vie. So now, when I get some free time this weekend, I'll tear it down and expose the culprit. I do have pictures though for when the build is done, so there's always that.
  8. That's exactly what I ordered for my 4224 build, but I haven't got them yet. I believe (if memory serves) that the case is 26" long from the very front to the very back, so 29" cables should be more than enough.
  9. I just purchased this board, and right on the box it says it supports i3.
  10. I know the Gigabyte boards use an Atheros Nic, but I don't know if they still have HPA issue's. Then their is the Supermicro boards which are running Intel Nic's, but they're not as budget friendly.
  11. Is their any reason to recommend the Intel i3-2100 over the Intel Pentium G850? It seems the video properties of the i3 are wasted in Unraid... just a thought.

Thanks for that, much appreciated. So it looks like they just stay unconnected... less clutter I suppose.

I just got this case, and I'm afraid I'm about to ask a stupid (and potentially embarassing question). I see the molex connectors, easy enough to setup. I see the SAS connectors, also easy enough. However, what are the (they look like) fan headers for? Any ideas?
  15. They could, but that doesn't help me when I'm already out the $30
  16. Evening all, Allow me to vent some frustration for a moment. So I order all the parts for my build last week, most of them coming from within Canada, but a few coming up from the States. Now as you may (or may not know) the Fan wall is not available in Canada (or from what I can find, even shipped to Canada). However, since I was ordering a few parts, I decided to order the fan plate and have it shipped to the border where I would pick it up (it's about an hour away from my home). So today I have confirmation that everything has been delivered, and my wife and I head down to pick everything up. Turns out that my fan plate has gone missing and nobody knows where it is. USPS won't help me because I'm a Canadian citizen, and it's not worth it to order another one (as the gas + shipping + part) would exceed $50. I swear, this build is cursed, and it hasn't even started yet.
  17. Well power produces heat, so in theory both the 2100 and 2100T should run at the same temps. I've also heard that the stock coolers on these chips are very quiet... I would try it out, and if it's too loud for you, then get an aftermarket one
  18. The only suggestion I would have (and of course I can't find the link now) is to just get the normal i3-2100, as the difference in power savings is virtually non-existent. Just google i3-2100 vs i3-2100T... the general consensus being that the performance hit is not worth the virtually non-existent power savings. PS - I'm still waiting for all my stuff to be delivered, so I can't yet comment on how well it works
  19. Looks like it's not seeing a network card... is it onboard? If you have a spare card lying around, you could try using that
  20. Any update on this? I don't mean to pressure you, as I know you're doing this in your free time, I'm just curious
  21. Raj, Thanks for the feedback. I had actually caught my mistake with the cables and had monoprice remove them from the order. Unfortunately the were sold out of the other cables I needed (SAS 8087) so I had to scramble to find some of those at a reasonable price. Took a chance with an e-bay seller, so we'll see how it goes. As far as the faster drives, my intention is to have exactly the situation you described... some folders writing to the cache drive, others writing directly to the array. While I know the speed 'increase' is minor, I got a good deal on the drives so I wasn't to concerned. As an aside, I'm thinking of repurposing one of my smaller drives to be used as an app drive. I like the idea of segregating addons from the main array.
  22. Whoops, I had changed the ram but forgot to update my initial post... updated now. As far as the internal USB, not a big deal, I'm sure I can find a use for the piece I bought
  23. Sorry, brain is still foggy from lack of sleep. The Xeon 1220L is hard to find, the i3 is no problem. As for the USB stick, I ended up changing it to one of the unraid suggested ones... I need to update my post to what I ordered... stay tuned?
  24. After re-considering my options (while working a 20+ hour shift), and looking at some further benchmarks, I decided that the i3-2100 was the better CPU to get... though the 1220L looks sexy. Unfortunately it looks like that chip is impossible to source in Canada or the US. Thanks for the help, any other comments are appreciated!
