  1. Is there any posted page where "open" issues are being tracked? It would help me make a determination if I want to take the plunge. (I have Intel based ethernet ports )
  2. Does cyberpower work with unraid's (optional) shutdown process? (I love my main 1500VA ups - have a smaller one on my unraid box)
  3. No - I do have one of those freaking awesome motherboards though and plan to move to 3TB when 5 goes RTM. And since that MB is now over a year old, I wasn't sure what type of effort it would require to support 3TB. Either way it is possible - I was more just "curious". TY though
  4. I absolutely agree that I may have had a bad fan. It does not however excuse Icy Dock on the terrible SATA and power port design where you have to bend power cables over SATA cables thus increasing the possibility of connection problems that I have already experienced twice. My advice - someone who only has one SM and one ID unit... Night and day, stay away from Icy Dock. (Oh and I don't even care about the ridiculously cheap tray design - but it is ridiculously cheap.)
  5. Icy Dock was my first purchase - was very excited to buy it. It wasn't too long though until I realized that monkeys designed the backplane... "slow" monkeys at that. I've had two separate problems with my machine not functioning properly because of the damn cable connections there. (One when the machine had been running for weeks, with all drives spun down) To me the Supermicro is a better design - although to be fair, it is not yet fully populated and I may end up swearing at this one in a year, and swearing by the Norco. An overall indication of quality to me can also be seen in the trays. Once I got my Supermicro, I realized what a good tray is. I'm no SM fanboy - but I do hate the Icy Dock. I'm amazed some people like them - especially when they are more costly and have some (serious to me) design issues. Oh and my Icy Dock fan SUCKED. I did remove it and am relying on good airflow from my Antec 1200 for now. I could hear that damn fan, easily, on the other side of a door, which was located ~10 feet away from the server, and about 5 feet away fro where I was standing.
  6. Thanks Raj - I'm pretty certain that when you post the data, it will include the bios revs... I don't need it now or anything - just really excited that this board is going to enable me to get 57TB in one machine. (Likely more once the 4TB's become available - but minimum is 57TB... god that scares me. A lot of data to potentially lose )
  7. Has anyone confirmed the X8SIL-F-O works? I emailed Supermicro - after a brief discussion they provided me some beta firmware, but with no promises it will actually work for most 3TB drives. I did not yet have a need - so I haven't tried it yet.
  8. No. It's a massive piece of crap. (Ok I'm exaggerating...) But seriously - I wish I went for the supermicro first. I now have both, and the supermicro (while only populated with one drive so far), is SOOOOO much better to me. (Specifically the horrible arrangement of the Icy Dock power connectors...)
  9. A bit tempting for me as I need a new receiver - don't really need super high end... But I kinda wanted Audyssey's flagship, MultEQ XT32.
  10. Bite your tongue there young man Should be adequate and are adequate are 2 different things; and we all know that that we can never have 2 much space on our servers. What worries me most - even with the 6-8TB of data I have now... Is a catastrophic failure - or a fire, or someone breaking in and stealing or trashing my equipment. There are no easy (or inexpensive) ways to backup massive amounts of data to a tape drive, and keep a copy elsewhere.
  11. That's a good point. I have a MBD-X8SIL-F-O. (And I love it) It has two x8 slots, so that gets me to 22 drives (only have room for 20 in my server)... But quite frankly once the 4 TB drives are out, I'll have room for 76TB of data in one box, which should be adequate
  12. It's tempting but I think I'm going to hold out for the AOC-SAS2LP-MV8, at least once it has been fully vetted for unraid use. (Just assuming there might be some benefits with the new design - like lower power draw...)
  13. Awesome power supply. I have two of them.
  14. I LOVE my X8SIL-F-O. I could not imagine buying anything for this type of application without IPMI. So unbelievably convenient when diagnosing a problem. (Like I just had today... Wasn't a HW issue, a "user error", and IPMI made it painless for me to figure out the problem... E.g, I didn't have to move the server or a kb/monitor to it)
  15. There have been several posts on this. YES - the SASLP IS compatible with 3T drives with the .21 firmware. Yeah I kinda knew about that (meaning I was pretty sure but would check before buying) I'm asking about the SAS2LP though.
  16. So is anyone using this card with Unraid? (And with 3tb drives or not?) The newegg reviews suggest massive driver problems - some people say it works fine with unraid, others not.
  17. I can't seem to tell how long this price is valid for... Still a bit tempted to get a 3tb instead as that would "stay" in my system as I eventually migrate to 4tb drives. (e.g, I'll keep a 3tb, but the 2tb's will become so much less "efficient" when the 4tb's are available) Decisions, Decisions.
  18. I'm anxious - but won't move to it until probably a month after it is final released.
  19. Agreed - biggest POS drive I ever bought. Avoid at all costs. I HATE WD low end drives after my experience with this junk. Sure I'd take a WD black in my workstation, but not one of their green drives in my server.
  20. Well to me it's less of an issue about lower platter count = less power consumption... (Although that is in the back of my mind) But reliability. More pieces, more things to go wrong, especially with the higher inertia of the spinning platters. (To be honest I'm sure the reliability numbers are pretty much the same... Just in the back of my mind I'm thinking about four whole platters spinning at high speed in such a small compressed area)
  21. I'm wondering when four platter drives might be coming out... I'd be tempted to pick one of these up if 5.0 was released a few months ago and I deemed it completely safe to move my server to it...
