  1. Running into a peculiar problem. I use teracopy so I can verify... And I've copied large ISO's before in the past, but now, on 6.6.0 I'm having all sorts of problems. I don't know if it's a HW issue or a software (driver) issue. When copying a (or many) large ISO files over my gigabit network, teracopy - before even really starting to copy, gives me an error: "Target: An unspecified network error has occurred." I've tested a copy to other machines on the same network, and it is fine. I've rebooted everything. The system log has no data posted to it in days. Hoping someone has some ideas on how to further debug. (Oh it's running on bare metal) Thank you!
  2. Thank you - but Active Streams doesn't seem to pick up on shares that are outside the array? I have a UD "share" that is actually an SMB share from another server. Just wanting to monitor that "stream" if possible. Any ideas? Not super-urgent... edit: Never mind - I used a plugin to monitor my Ethernet traffic - and that's a proxy for what I wanted...
  3. Is there a way to view / monitor active connections? Sorry - hard to read through 86 pages to find this answer
  4. Perfect. That did it. Seems to be working fine. Thanks again!!!
  5. Hey everyone. I have a media player that does not play well with Windows 10 unless I enable SMB v1, which I can do - it's just not smart. (Win 7 is fine, it appears to be some aspects of SMB3 causing the problem - and I did try disabling SMB direct... No dice) My media player can see my Unraid box fine. I was hoping to make an SMB share on my unraid box that would connect to my Win10 box and essentially just mirror / stream the data through it. I of course don't want this drive to be part of my array at all. Ideas?
  6. In disk settings my default format is XFS. Formatting now, I assume it will end up being XFS Thanks for all the help!
  7. Ok I think this is really my last question I don't quite see (and can't easily find by searching due to massive amount of information on the broad subject)... Exactly how to format the new 8TB (as XFS)... My parity is good now, new drive is not yet added. Array is stopped. I can add the drive, and start the array - but I want to make sure it will be XFS, and can't exactly tell when I will have the chance to set that. (And where) I've poked around, but am really not certain where the formatting command comes in and how to configure as XFS. Thanks
  8. Now I'm debating stopping the parity build... As that parity disk is a shingled HD... And swapping in my WD red as the new parity, pushing the shingled to be the replacement data disk instead. Thoughts?
  9. Ok so when I go to Tools:New Config... There are four options under Retain Configuration. I'm guessing I check parity and data (I have no cache) Although I'm not sure as one of my data drives is missing, I'm not sure what the next step is after I click apply. I'm being extra careful here (of course). A quick search did not show me much information (at all) on the 'Retain Configuration" setting.
  10. My 8TB is preclearing now, should wrap up tonight sometime I think. The 500GB is out of the array, all data was removed and files deleted. When you say "new config"... What do you mean exactly? My array is started, although as expected it is currently missing a disk. Parity is valid, although Unraid says my array is unprotected... (As it is missing a disk.. disk 5, not installed) Right now it WILL let me do a parity check and write corrections... Even though I am missing a disk. So that was what I was thinking I should do. Update parity, add then add the new 8TB drive. Thanks for the help...
  11. So I'm about to add an 8TB drive to my system. (Parity is already 8TB) I had a 500GB drive I moved all the data to other drives. I then removed that drive so I could put in the 8TB to do the pre-clear. The parity was valid before I removed the drive. (Well I think it was, I actually checked the parity before I deleted everything and removed the drive). Before adding the 8TB to the array officially, I think I just need to update parity... Which should essentially remove the 500GB from the array. I can then format and add (as XFS) the new 8TB?
  12. Ok so using the plugin, I get to 93% read, and it hangs for hours and hours. (Ok only did it once but not going to waste my time again) The preclear script I have installed gives me a "device is buys". It's a WD 8TB Easystore... Can someone give a nudge?
  13. Yes I already set them to 100% - the problem is that my disks in general are at 100% capacity. Not to the byte, but rounded up. I guess we'll see the next time I restart the system if I get those 8 messages. Thanks...
  14. Thank you - unfortunately the Dynamix thread is even longer... And Google isn't helping... I clearly want to receive warnings for serious issues, but not that my shares are full. One of the main benefits of unraid is long term storage, so I think a lot of people probably have disks bulging with data and add disks when they are full. Appreciate the hint in the right direction though - I'll change the settings to 100% but I fear I'll still get the warnings. (At the time I was doing something on my ipad, so the pointless messages coming up that I had a new email... one by one... Well it was a little distracting and was just hoping to prevent in the future) Thanks again !
  15. I just updated my FCP plugin, and upon reboot I got 8 friendly emails telling me I'm low on disk space on drives. I don't recall seeing those messages previously... Any way to disable? I mean I have a server like unraid because I intend to fill each drive and then add more... I did a quick search and couldn't find the answer with google, and 40 pages is a bit long to read through. Any hints?
  16. I looked at that server - actually more interested in the -CLN4F... Unfortunately both of them lack an x16 slot which I want for a video card... It's a darn shame, as I would have gone for the CLN4F in a heartbeat.
  17. Wow - 18 cores. And here I thought my 6 core build was going to be pricey
  18. Hey folks. My application: 1) Overall virtualization lab - hope to run multiple hosts. Windows, OS X, Ubuntu, etc. 2) Ideally will replace my desktop - using a zero client where my PC currently is. 3) Unraid! 4) Host a DVR for my IP video camera(s) 5) I haven't use PC gaming in years - however I plan to buy a higher end video card to enable it should I chose - but in reality I'm getting a higher end video card to make sure nothing I do will be video limited. 6) Maybe eventually host XBMC on it or something - I could run a 50' cable to my receiver without too much trouble. I plan to get a Xeon E5-1650, 64gb of ram, and ideally a Samsung 950 Pro M.2 to host ESXi and the VM's. I'll install a 4TB drive for other data should it replace my desktop, and of course can backup critical stuff to my unraid server. However I can't even really resolve the MB. I've been looking at the Supermicro boards: X10SRA-F Pros:Plenty of PCIe slots, onboard audio (future use?) Cons: No native M.2 slot, Intel i210 dual gigabit ethernet only X10SRM-TF Pros: Dual 10GBase-T, Native M.2 slot, 7 year lifespan Cons: Only 3 PCIe's. One x16, two x8. No Audio. X10SRi-F Pros: Plenty of PCie slots, Intel i350 dual gigabit ethernet Cons: No native M.2 slot, No Audio. To be honest, I don't really need audio - but it's a nice to have thing, without having to add extra cards later. I realize the two different Intel Gigabit Ethernet options shouldn't make that much of a difference - but the i350 has some benefits for virtualization and consumes less power - which is good as I do want to keep this machine as quiet as reasonably possible (plus it will of course be on, forever) Since I currently have 10 HD's in my Unraid array - it is likely I will have to keep my AOC SAS expander board in the new system. I guess I'm just looking for people's perspectives. Or maybe they have recommendations on other boards I should consider. For high quality server boards, it is hard to beat SM, but I'm open to other options. Thanks
  19. Thank you - I have a Seasonic X650. All disks up now - because for some reason I'm unable to spin down disks if the array isn't started??? Anyway, 97W total, and at the time of reboot the machine should have had all 8 HD's spun down. I installed the fix common problems script, and configured notifications. The only errors right now is that the array is not started and the powerdown plugin is not installed. There's a warning that community applications is not installed. I wish I could spin down my HD's - I don't want to start the array and do a parity check as it will take 20 hours and it's pretty warm in that room right now. (Again, the HD's were not powered up at the time, system temperature is normal according to my IPMI readings and would have been lower this morning when the problem occurred) Thanks for your interest and help
  20. I'm running 6.x and while I still haven't diagnosed a drive gone missing a few weeks ago... I swapped disk locations and was waiting for it to go missing again. After rebuilding parity, I had my drives spun down... Last time a problem happened my Supermicro drive cage went ballistic (loud buzzer). I disabled it because it was really quite loud - but planned on checking every day or two to see if the problem recurred. (NO reboot last time, just the config became invalid, array stopped, loud buzzer) So today I go to use the server, and find out that 3 hours ago it apparently rebooted. I have it on a UPS, and my main computer's UPS shows no events (power loss) nor are any of my digital clocks reset. It seems for some reason - the machine crashed / rebooted on it's own. Of course the syslog is not saved after the reboot, right... So I'm wondering if there's any way to "capture" any crash logs for next time? By the way - my IPMI console doesn't show any memory faults or anything in the logs. I did have one of those about 3 years ago, but nothing since. I'm really perplexed.
  21. Thanks guys! I had thought Unraid had an identify drive feature? I can't seem to find it so perhaps I was mistaken?
  22. I will add.. That the temperamental drive (Seagate 8TB) has a 188 Command Timeout raw value of 4295032833 according to the smart data. The parity drive (only other 8TB) is at 0.
  23. Hey everyone. I've had a couple instances of my X8SIL-F screeching at me because a drive goes missing. Actually I'm not sure if it's my MB or the Supermicro AOC SATA card I added. Buzzer is annoying as all heck, but it does it's purpose to alert me to a problem. Only thing is I'm not entirely sure what the problem is. In my Unraid log file I get: Jul 12 18:17:04 Tower kernel: mdcmd (4): import 3 8,64 1953514552 SAMSUNG_HD203WI_S1UYJ1CZXXXXXX Jul 12 18:17:04 Tower kernel: md: import disk3: [8,64] (sde) SAMSUNG_HD203WI_S1UYJ1CZXXXXXX size: 1953514552 For all my drives, except one: Jul 12 18:17:04 Tower kernel: mdcmd (9): import 8 0,0 Jul 12 18:17:04 Tower kernel: md: disk8 missing While the array was started, when the above log started (at the first line I pasted in above)... I think all drives were spun down. Any pointers on how to go about diagnosing what happened? One of the red lights on my SUPERMICRO CSE-M35T-1B drive cage was on - bright red. (Although I didn't pay attention to which it was) My thoughts are that it was the SM 5-in-3 that was buzzing at me after a drive stopped responding... Now this happened a week ago - after a power failure... Rest of the system is fine, including all drives connected to that 5-in-3. For hours while I was out, apparently that rather annoying buzzer was on (I'll disable it I think)... So anyway, after rebooting, the drive came up fine. Then today - days later, all drives I believe spun down - little heat being generated and I have fans in the case... Out of nowhere the problem recurs. Any advice?
