    CPU choices?

Thanks for those dikkie ... helped a lot! I'm going with the x3460 and 16GB of ecc ram as a good compromise. The cpu i was looking at was the L3426 but i've decided its not for me. I'd rather have the extra grunt of the 3460 cos i intend to play with vms and dockers in the short term. Who knows maybe my htpc setup might end up in the mix. There's enough space and slots offerred by the board.

    CPU choices?

Thanks guys. There is a 45w xeon option available which i'm on the hunt for. If not found at a reasonable price i'll go with the xeon 3460. The machine WILL be used as a docker/vm testbed as i've no experience of those at all. Main htpc will be served from a couple of microservers (N54L) so this will be purely a plaything. Looking good though in a Fractal Design R2 case ...lots of room for expansion!! Score of 5158 eh ... is that decent?

    CPU choices?

Thanks. So i shouldnt be too bothered about the higher TDP of the xeon?

    CPU choices?

I've been given an SM X8SIA-F bare board and have no clue of what the best CPU to stick in is? Looks as though it can take a Xeon or i3?? I'll be wanting to build an unRAID system capable of consolidating everything i've got but dont really want a gas-guzzling cpu so was thinking i3 but no idea if it is capable or not? Any suggestions?
  5. Hi guys ... i'm still confused about this upgrade. I thought i'd decided on doing an 'upgrade' from 5.0.5 but where it says to run new permissions if you've 'ever ran at 5.0.rc9 or earlier' ... i just cant remember that far back. I do know that i progressed through a couple of revisions but how can i tell if i need to run new perms or not?? Am i right in thinking that i can just clean install latest v6 and all data on drives will be unaffected after i've reallocated drives and it's parity sync'ed?
  6. I'm preclearing an 8TB at the minute. Hope it doesn't give me that message!
  7. What are the (dis)advantages of a clean install over an upgrade? I CAN upgrade it seems from 5.0.5 to v6. I had read it wasnt possible but that link says it is. That's what i meant about confusion. I'm not too techie so whats easiest for me? My unRAID is basic with few, if any, plugins.
  8. Thanks. Appreciated. But ... i'm at 5.0.5 so is it easier to bring that to 5.0.6 and then upgrade OR clean install v6 which i'm dibious about doing?
  9. I'm unsure of the steps needed to upgrade my unRAID v5.0.5 to latest V6. Anyone able to help me out? Do i need to do a clean install over again as i'm confused by references to being able to upgrade from v5.0.6 onwards automatically?? Is it better to bring my release up to 5.0.6 or just do a clean install? Whats the best instructions to use, there's a lot about!
  10. I run three microservers. Each has a 4TB Seagate ST4000VN000 nas drive. No probs at all.
  11. Jonp's pic IS out there ... looks nothing like her!!
  12. What size is your parity drive, assuming you're running one. If not, why not?
  13. Are there any other instances ie win7, 8. 8.1 available for evaluation purposes?
