  1. Well, FWIW, I'm a linux noob. i know I should create a script, copy it to init.d, make it executable and update rc. the question is: what goes in the script ?
  2. To be honest, I don't know if there are any actual benefits. It runs in a row: update_binaries.php update_releases.php update_predb.php true optimise_db.php update_tvschedule.php update_theaters.php It then waits 10min (you can modify this value) and starts all over again. I don't know about the cron jobs some are using because I haven't use them. About the default screen script "newznab_screen.sh", it does pretty much the same, although you have to actually run it. I use the init because it runs automatically. That's the only reason. I use a dedicated server that reboots automatically on security updates. I never have to worry whether newznab is running, because it is. I can close the console and putty terminal without worrying whether I connected or disconnected screen. Basically, it's a self-running server. The only thing I'm missing is a low HDD space mail warning (almost there) and how to start sphinx automatically on reboot. I can then forget about it, which it's the actual purpose or running a server, isn't it?
  3. I'm almost there, running quite stable for two days, indexing a few groups (7) and running the init newznab.sh script. So everything is pretty much automated without screen. I'm only missing how to autotart the sphinx daemon (./nnindexer.php daemon). Any hints? PS: running a VM in ESXi with 50GB HDD, 4GB RAM and 4 cores. I know this is too much, but I don't to run into issues because of lack of resources :-)
  4. For those running Ubuntu server 12.04, try this https://sites.google.com/site/1204nnplus/
  5. Could someone chip in and comment about percona vs mysql? What are the pros and cons of each? Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
  6. I must confess I don't understand why I can't access the flash share with 'root' user hovewer, and as advised, I created an 'admin' user and could mount it straigt away. FWIW it worked! thanks
  7. Try a different user. I don't think root has the ability to mount shares in rc8. And how is that the flash can be accessed from windows machines?
  8. I'm running 5rc8a as a VM in ESXi. I can see the flash drive from my windows desktop, so it's shared, no doubt about it, however, when I try to mount on linux it doesn't work (running linux server 12.04 x64) trying to mount with sudo mount -t cifs //192.168.1.153/flash /mnt/flash -o username=root,password=******,iocharset=utf8,file_mode=0777,dir_mode=0777 What am I doing wrong?
  9. I got tired of this, connection kept getting worse and the new switch didn't help at all. So I bit the bullet and moved to 5rc8a a little earlier than I liked to, I drop all together 4.7 and make my ESXi server the production one. So far everything is good, no network issues. Thanks all
  10. Title says it all... I have unraid 5rc8a in a VM in ESXi and I have another VM with Ubuntu Server 12.04. I succeded mounting users shares in the ubuntu vm through fstab, no much hassle here, but I can't find a way to export the whole cache drive. any help will be much appreciated
  11. Thanks Joe, it wasn't that though, no hard coded MAC addresses. Some more findings. I have a desktop (Win7 32bits) and an ESXi server that has 3 VMs: #1 - Win7 64bits #2 - Linux server 12.04 #3 - Unraid 5rc8a After testing with my ESXi server down (here) I switched it back for further testing. My VM #2 (linux) is mounting Unraid 4.7 shares during start up through fstab. Strange thing is that I cannot access unraid 4.7 from my desktop or VM #1 (both are win7 machines) but I can access them from my Linux server. So issue seems to be related to windows , however whenever I cannot access unraid 4.7, I still can access unraid 5
  12. I switched off ESXi, and even unplugged the ethernet connections (including IPMI), but I'm still having connectivity issues. The only thing I can think off is the switch, so I bit the bullet and anticipated my x-mas shopping. I saw somewhere in the forums a recommendation for the TP Link SG1016, so I bought the 24 ports version TL-SG1024. I'll report if issues go away.
  13. no luck I keep on having connection issues. Any ideas?
  14. First thing I tried was to change the cable, it wasn't it . Then I used my previous switch, and connected directly to it the unraid server and the desktop. I then chained it to the gigabit switch to have internet on my desktop, so now it looks something like this: Router -> Gigabit Switch -> esxi server, Second-switch -> unraid server, desktop and it's been working with some heavy use (updating XBMC SQL library, accessing shares, Media Companion, etc) for about 40min which is quite a record lately. I'll monitor it closely and let you how it goes. However, this brings me a new question, actually two: 1. How is possible that the switch puts down the connection of a working port? Is there some king of bottleneck to the max traffic, connections, etc, it can handle? 2. And this brings the next question, I was thinking of buying a rack mount switch this xmas, is there any specific specs I should look for (or avoid)?
  15. Ok, I should've explain better I added the switch like 4 months ago, when preparing the location for the new server, and I'm having these issue in the last 2/3 weeks, and it's becoming more and more frequent. More info, my setup is something like this: Router -> Switch -> unraid server, esxi server, desktop and when I lose connection to unraid I can still surf the internet, so I though the issue wouldn't be in the switch. However, it doesn't hurt to try with my previous set up, right?
  16. Hi there, I'm running 4.7 with the hardware in my sig. Lately I'm having many issues with my network loosing connectivity from my main Win 7 machine. I can see this in the log: Dec 1 12:15:17 Tower kernel: r8169: eth0: link down (Network) Dec 1 12:15:17 Tower ifplugd(eth0)[1378]: Link beat lost. (Network) Dec 1 12:15:19 Tower kernel: r8169: eth0: link up (Network) Dec 1 12:15:20 Tower ifplugd(eth0)[1378]: Link beat detected. (Network) I haven't change any hardware, configuration or plugins. The only difference is that I'm building a second server (ESXi 5.1 with unraid 5rc8a, Win 7 and Ubuntu server) so I added to my set up an old gigabit switch (Belkin F5D5141-5). Any ideas? How can I track this down? It's becoming really annoying, I can watch movies almost without any issue from the Media Center in a different room, but each time I directly access the shares from my Win 7 desktop I lost connection like every 15min or so
  17. Hi Tom, Let me start by saying, I am one of the patient ones. Not because I am a fan boy, as I'm not, but because I believe that judging others without having the full picture is at least daring. Life throws many curve balls as to make it as simple as 2+2, and I'm sure there is a good enough reason (for you) not to have replied here (or anywhere else) before. However, at this point I'm really disappointed with you. It has taken you more than one month to reply and still didn't provide any useful feedback. IMHO you should provide answers not only to your "supporters" but also to your "detractors", after all, WE ALL ARE UNRAID USERS. I'm sorry to say I was expecting more from you. 18. Completely agree, but I don't think this thread is the right place. Just because I, as many others, am patient doesn't mean I don't agree with (most) users' frustrations. Let's agree to disagree Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2

  21. I'll be following this thread closely. I just, literally, started building my ESXI machine, but mi goal in the mid term is to use ZFS not only for the cache, but for storing the VM. I was actually thinking of FreeNAS, but for no particular reason, I have zero, like in nada, experience with ZFS.
