  1. I love my Silverstone cases. They make great stuff. Having said that, the controller you referenced above looks like the Chinese knockoff LSI I got on ebay last year. It won't do more than 20MB/s no matter what I do. And there was speculation that, if its firmware isn't 100%, it might lead to data corruption. I'm not knocking Silverstone, maybe they contracted with the same plant that builds them for LSI. Or maybe not.

  3. FWIW I have 15 data drives on a 16-port LSI PCIe card, two parity drives on motherboard SATA2, and a 500gb WD black and an SSD on motherboard SATA3. The 16-port is new to me, replacing an LSI 8-port, an Adaptec 4-port, and a handful more motherboard ports. I did lose 15-25MB/s on my parity checks.... But the trade off is less hardware to fail, neater cable management for heat, and now I have some spare parts on hand. Data transfers for streaming (Plex) to devices, and copying data to and from the server, have not appreciably changed much. The heat issue is correct. It doesn't matter how many push/pull fans you have, you need one directing air directly over (or near) the heatsink. i had three intake fans (80mm fans in the hot swap bays for the drives) and two 140mm evac fans (at the top and rear of the case). The heatsink of my LSI got so hot during a parity check that I could not touch it. I added a pair of 140mm intake fans, on the side panel of the case, directly over the PCI slots, on lowest fan speed (barely audible) and that made a world of difference. As for ports and speed, put your smallest drives on the slowest ports, so that, during a parity check or reconstruction, the smallest drives "finish first" and no longer need to be accessed via the slowest ports. I used to run a PCI SATA1 controller on an old server while I was waiting for a new motherboard.... I had a couple of 1TB disks on that controller, and parity checks would crawl until it got past the 1TB mark, and then it flew with the onboard SATA2/3 ports.
  4. 100% agree. in a rush to get a part for a server that was down, I grabbed an inexpensive but new in box card that end up coming from China, unbeknownst to me. I should have paid closer attention. It was a clone. It got 20 megabytes a second Max speeds. I emailed LSI and verified the serial number with them and they said for sure it was a counterfeit card. So be very careful what you buy and from whom. After an email sh*tstorm with the seller, he finally refunded my money in full and told me to keep the card.
  5. Right. So I don't know if this is sonarr, or sab, so I'll start here. Let me preface this by say that, aside from regular updates when I notice a new software version, there has been *zero* configuration change to my setup for over six months. When I first (finally) got everything running smoothly, everything ran perfectly. Over time, things slowly degrade, despite *zero* config changes, and I'm at a point now where I need help. What is happening: A show exists in sonarr, and its directory exists on my server, and it is 100% up to date, every episode is downloaded, in either 480 or 720p or 1080p. Looking at sab's download log, I'll see a particular episode will be downloaded for said show, two or three times. Usually I'll have to obfuscated version, an SDTV version, and a 720 or 1080 version. All downloaded. But when I check the actual show's directory, the file(s) sab downloaded are not there. When I check sab's working directory, for complete and incomplete downloads, the files aren't there either. But hovering over sab's download log shows a very clear path (to the working directory) for where it placed the file. So multiple versions of the same (existing) episodes are downloading, and then disappearing. And if there is only an SDTV version of the show on the server, and sab says it downloaded a 720 or 1080 version, that show is not there.

  7. But the array is still down a disk, obviously. So is the preclear + rebuild process just seamless now, but the array is at risk for the same period of time? Or is preclear sped up now, and the rebuild process begins much faster? I am 100% not putting any disk in my array that isn't already precleared one or two times in another system.... Has this changed?
  8. Hang on. What happens when I plug a new disk into my server? I have an older unraid system sitting in the garage collecting dust that I use to preclear disks. Does 6.4.x handle this differently now?
  9. I am confused by sonarr's behavior and I'm wondering if anyone can clarify. If I go to the "Wanted" tab, I have 403 pages of missing episodes. If I click "Search All Missing," sonarr spends a while queueing up several dozen pages in sab. After a day or two, sab is done, and a ton of episodes are downloaded, most successful. But, sonarr still has 403 pages of missing episodes, although none are the ones sab just downloaded, ie, sonarr gets the message that a download was successful.
  10. Just tried headphones again..... unraid server is, once again, completely locked up. Web GUI won't work, get a login prompt via ssh, but after five minutes of waiting, having never gotten a "password" prompt, I gave up and closed putty.

  12. A serious question for you all. How many artists and songs are you searching? Have you had headphones scan your entire library? It continues to be dog slow and crash for me.
  13. Thanks. I don't have a cache drive. My app drive is an SSD with a ton of free space, and my downloads drive is a spinner, with tons of free space. I deleted headphones.db and it ran fine for a while, I didn't have it index my music, now the database is only a few MBs in size but the app is still essentially frozen.
  14. Well this is running fantastically. But, its dog slow on a quad-core i5. I have a couple hundred artists put in right now, and it froze the unraid GUI, the docker GUI, and the headphones GUI. I went and made a cup of coffee and checked the mail and came back, and the GUI was responsive again. But doing anything in headphones (adding an artist, clicking through the tabs, etc) takes 5-10 minutes for any one single operation to complete. Is there any way to speed this up? ETA My headphones.db file is 288MB in size. Stopping the docker inside the unraid GUI has no effect. I've had "docker stop headphones" running for almost 20 minutes now, no effect. The docker appears to be completely hung. Is this a database size issue?
  15. File names are too long? SAB is pausing most/all downloads. Been happening for a couple of days, sometimes when I press "play" to un-pause, it kicks back up, last few hours its been stopping right away with the red pause icon. SAB threads on various other forums indicate possibly that filenames are too long, disk space issues, etc. My disk has plenty of space, and I just ran SMART tests, its fine.   17. Can this be used to backup one unraid server to another? I'd love to be able to take a couple of the shares on my primary server, encrypt them, and drop them on my secondary unraid server once a month. Disregrad..... testing it now.
  18. Is it normal for the system to be completely unresponsive during a backup? Right now the main unraid UI will not load, ssh'ing into the system means 10-15 seconds of wait time before I see a prompt, sysload is 13/13/13, all commands from the shell are slow/hang, 'ps -aux > /mnt/user/bob/ps.aux.10.2.17" has been working for over ten minutes, the server is not visible on the network, files and shares are unavailable..... htop won't load at all, top displays the first screen the freezes (no updates), sysload is now 15+ across the board, rsync (x3) and unrraid are the processes using the most CPU.   19. FWIW, I also get the "this file no longer exists" when deleting -- from Windows -- on any share. It happens A LOT, but appears random, in that it doesn't happen every time. Perhaps this is a samba issue? Or a recycle bin issue? Although I think it was happening before I started using the recycle bin. I still haven't tried to delete my backup sets, don't want to lock up my server and initiate a parity check.
  20. I must say now that I'm afraid to delete my old backup files. I have about two months' worth (weekly) and was going to delete some old stuff, but this whole server lockup issue seems to be more and more common. Anyone figure out what's going on?
  21. Does anyone know if there is someone working on a plugin, docker, or the like, for unraid, that uses something like RRDtool and cacti to monitor network traffic and devices? That would be awesome.
