  1. Hoopster, that is a clear explanation of what I think is an important subject. Thanks very much. I am used to windows where it seems like everything with a path (that I see as a user) is a physical path.
  2. #1 mnt/user/appdata/ (correct way) Is it correct to say w #1 : When app starts it is read from disk (or cache?) into ram (or cache?), and then runs in ram , and when stopped is stored on disk (or cache?) then stopped? #2 /mnt/appdata/ (incorrect way) w #2 , as itimpi says "The contents are only in RAM and will be lost on shutdown." But I do not understand why this occurs - why it does not go to disk. It's OK, I do a lot of the unraid path mapping by prescription since I have a hard time understanding. Thanks for the replies.
  3. I think it is supposed to run in RAM, not sure, but shutdown and store on drive. Why? I think you are all correct. I look at my other dockers and they are with "user" folder, including appdata. I will try it.
  4. Are you recommending it be /mnt/user/appdata/roonserver/app ? Why?
  5. Subject: Updating I read most containers (BinHex or LinuxIO) say do not update thru the app, but instead update through the Docker tab in Unraid where at the bottom is a button to Update. But I think you all say, this container is different and I can update thru the app (in other words, when it nags to update, I can click "update all" on the Roon remote control app on ipad). Is this correct? I now have Roon Remote on my ipad (v1.8 build 756) and on my win10 (v1.8 build 763). And already it is nagging me to update every time I start the app, and I cannot figure out what build number it is trying to update to. I am scared to update generally, and even more so while it is building library.
  6. Edit: Deleted post. I made a stupid mistake on the paths but fixed it now.
  7. Fix Common Problems says: Invalid folder appdata contained within /mnt Generally speaking, most times when other folders get created within /mnt it is a result of an improperly configured application. This error may or may not cause issues for you. But I thought I was supposed to set my path that way for Roon container as shown in graphic below. Also I thought mnt/appdata/roonserver/app is the same as mnt/cache/appdata/roonserver/app since I have my appdata share set to cache only.
  8. I ran my core in Windows 10 for a year, then I created a backup lately. Now I installed this container and assigned it as the core, then tried to restore that backup (when it asked me to sign in, I click "restore backup"). But the restoration of the backup fails. Can I do this? Are there any tricks?
  9. Thanks. I will fix this right away. I found my answer how to do it here https://wiki.unraid.net/UnRAID_6/Storage_Management#Replacing_disks I can use the "normal replacement" even though I am going from 4TB to 8TB, because my parity is already 8TB.
  10. Notice Disk 3 was a 4TB disk and is not installed. Here is screen of my current: I think it was one or two years ago I removed that physical disk as I did not need it or want it. I do not recall procedures. Now, I think maybe there is a software procedure (shrink array) that I did not do that I should have done, and that it is bad to leave it, because now I think my parity protection is being consumed for it, and If I loose another disk I really lose it. Is that correct? When I click "view" for disk 3, it shows zero folders and zero files, which is what I expected.
  11. I thought the reads increasing was the only way to know it is running (built in help). Last night I found spaceinvaders youtube on this called How to Fix XFS File System Corruption on an Unraid Server. Now I did repair with -L. This time I watched it closer. I think it went well. Thanks for your replies.
  12. I started the repair Feb. 18 at 5pm, now Feb 22 1am it is still repairing the 8TB drive. Is it supposed to take this long? I checked the "reads" periodically. (Help says "reads" is a count of I/O requests sent to the device I/O drivers.) Reads Date time 113k Feb 18 126k Feb 18 11:40pm 421k Feb 19 1pm 233k Feb 21 1pm (why did reads go down?) 253k Feb 22 1am why did reads go down on Feb 21. how long does it take to repair 8TB drive? Here is what my screen says at Check Filesystem Status, xfs_repair status: Phase 1 - find and verify superblock... Phase 2 - using internal log - zero log... Log inconsistent or not a log (last==0, first!=1) empty log check failed zero_log: cannot find log head/tail (xlog_find_tail=22) ERROR: The log head and/or tail cannot be discovered. Attempt to mount the filesystem to replay the log or use the -L option to destroy the log and attempt a repair. Should I stop the repair, and start it again with -L option?
  13. I must have been looking at a very old help document about Unraid and ReiserFS. My array disks do show xfs.
  14. I searched this topic for "undelete" and could not find it. I must have made a search error as this seems impossible that no one has requested undelete. I recall when it was added to Windows due to large demand. A great feature I would gladly allocate disk space for. I do see people asking if there is an undelete feature, but not in the Feature Request topic. I see: "There are no known undelete tools for the Reiser file system, which the unRAID system uses for each data drive. However, there are techniques that can be used to recover files." Reiser needs to do better. I thought it only needs to do a Move To Trashcan in the background, instead of delete.
  15. it has the green ball if I spin it up, so it is actual disk. Running the check fix now with no options (no parameters) for about 10 minutes and ongoing. The help said when the check fix is running to "refresh" the monitor. I guess they are referring to the internet browser program. The help said use -L option if it tells you to. Mine did not tell me that yet. My disk is xfs. What does -L do?
  16. I think it is an actual disk. How do you tell if it is emulated or actual? What parameters I should set for the repair, other than remove the -n?
  17. For the unmountable disk, I ran the "Checking a File System" with -n option, and copied the report into the attached docx file. If I pasted it here, it is so many pages it seems to create problems. unmountable hard drive, check file system report .docx "Repairing a File System" instructions say: Add any additional parameters to the Options field required that are suggested from the check phase. If not sure then ask in the forum. I am not sure at all what the report means, so asking here what parameters I should set? Thanks.
  18. deleted post. I got it to work by re-doing my HDHomerun tuner.
  19. Today I see SpaceInvader One, in setting up nzbGet line for "ArticleCache" put 200MB, which uses RAM and reduces disk IOs. So, now I feel SSD cache is less important for disk wear.
  20. Great explanation. I had not thought to treat Krusader like a VM or container. I understand it now, and i can see how to figure out things on my own better now. I was interested to see yours shows the "default value" is "/mnt/user". Mine did not show it. But then i toggled the basic view to advanced view, and then it showed it. Thanks!
  21. When using Unraid docker and drives to grab and store torrent downloads, sometimes it makes my hard drive a little noisy. I am guessing it makes the heads move more but I am not sure. Are torrent downloads significantly harder on drives than transferring a single large file from a local drive to another local drive? "does ssd cache reduce wear problems overall" - here, "overall" means if we add an SSD, also consider its wear is added to the HDD wear. I am interested in opinions. My guess is it is not a significant difference overall, or too hard to know, so maybe do not give this factor much weight compared to other reasons for using SSD. Spaceinvader video had a very brief comment that if you have an SSD cache, then it is appropriate to use it for torrents and usenet downloads. But maybe it was not for reasons of wear? I don't know. For me, speed is not a factor as it may be for many. So I am on the fence if i should use SSD cache.
  22. Thanks for the concern and caution. What a great and kind community. I am aware of that caution. It was interesting that in Krusader, Root/media shows all my physical disks, and logical user shares, and cache drive. Root/mnt there is nothing (which puzzles me). Krusader help told me to use "Edit - Calculate occupied space" to see the amount of bytes in folders, so I was able to solve a problem with an unexpected full cache, and I could see what caused it and so now I know how to fix it. Excellent. I assume this is one of the best ways to browse the cache drive. It is also interesting that Krusader shows all kinds of folders that are strange to me, and I never see otherwise . Brings up many questions in my mind, but I assume it is not urgent for me to understand. I fairly understand all the folders in Root/media.
  23. If anybody installs this Roon container, then later does the next Roon update (update to ver 1.8 planned for Feb. 9, 2021) , please report back here if it worked.
  24. Thanks! Why do they use the word "media"? I though it was referring to media like movies and music and tv shows. Does it mean media, like disk media, and ssd ( physical data storage devices)?
