  1. So did I post this in the wrong section, or is running dual nics / bonding not used by very many people?
  2. Thanks, cool option. I haven't looked at hdd cages in a while. Do you have this cage and does the 120mm fan keep all 4 drives cool?
  3. Yes I looked at moving the 3 drives to the external bays, but there is no fan option to put in front of them and the air from the other fans won't reach the top section, means they will run too hot. Those slots are more for optical drives or non heat generating ...IMO. @ ashman70 - thanks for the offer, but I'm looking for new only and I live in California. There are also some options I have seen on the newer cases that I really like, again the newer cases don't have enough hdd slots for me. I just wish I could find a new 12+ bay case that has the newer options. I really liked the PWM hub, the esata port on the front panel, and the other option is some cases now have the fan/light control switches. I'm not sure I would need those, as I run PWM fans. Easy access dust filters are another hot feature. And the smaller foot print and the lighter in weight is even better. As a short term solution, I could just buy top of the line replacement fans for my B2 and see if it will cool the hdds and not be too loud. The B2 is way too big, so either way, it needs to go.
  4. With the new website upgrades LT did, something changed with the default "Follow" topic settings. Now when I post a new question, I'm no longer Following the topic by default. I have to go back and then select Follow to follow my old question. I was unable to find where I can set this in my profile options. I would prefer it defaults to Follow yes for any new Post or any Reply. Is there a way to set this?
  5. I'm looking for a new case. That isn't as easy as I thought it would be. Most case recommenations / information on this site is old. I even read several case reviews dated 2017, most of the cases are old there too. I was hoping to get something new, 2016 or newer, needs at least 12 internal 3.5" hdd and it must have awesome cooling to keep all those hard drives from over heating. The only good option I have found that meets my requirements is the Antec nineteen hundred, which came out in 2013 (pushing 5 years old technology). It's missing the esata port on the front, which i use to preclear drives. My main concern is cooling those hdd's. My previous case, Rosewill B2 Sprit, This case is way too big and heavy, and after loading up the 12 hdd's, it was way too hot inside for the drives, most were running about 51C. You can add more fans to my existing case, but it requires you to remove the small hdd cage, taking you down to only 9 hdd slots - and that won't work for me. I would appreciate any advice. I've been reading case reviews for the past 3 days and from several manufacturers - really not thrilled with any of the options. Thanks!
  6. I'm looking for the latest and greatest dual port nic for my unraid server, to be used with 2 1gig links in bonding mode. I'm replacing a old Intel dual server nic that has issues. After reviewing the LT hardware compatibility list, I'm no closer to making a selection. That list is out dated big time and has none of the latest nics on it. Some options I found on newegg are: -Intel E1G42ET -Intel E1G42ETBLK -Intel EXPI9402PT -Intel EXPI9402PTBLK -Supermicro AOC-SG-i2 -StarTech ST2000SPEXI -Rosewill RNG-407-Dualv2 I searched for some of these models in the forums but didn't really find much - perhaps means not too many issues with nics and unraid. I just want to be sure bonding will work. I'm looking for "Works right out of the box", with no scripts or work-arounds and it needs to work with unraid 6.3.x
  7. Ok, I got to working, sort of. I had to put the USB cable to USB and I had to put USB Type as USB, even though I have a SmartUps. The good thing is I have basic UPS support now for emergency shutdowns, but the UPS status only shows how much the battery is charged and expected run time. The other information is missing, like Load. With a Smartup UPS, I should have all of the information. I tried all other settings for both cable type and UPS type, and all fail and will not even work, except the above mentioned settings. Any idea why unraid cannot talk to this Smartups? Why would we have a APCSMART option if it doesn't work? On the back of this UPS, there also a DATA cable (RJ45 style to USB - which APC has used for years). So i have both USB and this DATA port. Because it came with the USB cable, that is what I connected. I think I could dig up a APC data cable - should I try that and use that port instead of the USB port?
  8. My old APC Backups UPS died so I went out and purchased a APC SMC1000 Smart UPS. Unraid says it cannot communicate with it. I've tried changing the cable type to USB, SMART, and one other option - to no avail. I also played with the UPS type, Simple, etc, none of them work. Can anyone confirm this APC SMC1000 will work with unraid and apcupsd? If yes, what settings should I use?
  9. I'm looking for a new pci-e x8 or x16 sata card for my unraid server. After reading this thread, it looks like the SYBA SI-PEX40071 8 port card is not good if you need all 8 ports. What is the most preferred sata controller with 8 ports and enough lanes for full speed? In another thread they suggested LSI SAS9201-8, however I cannot f ind this card new for sale. Only used on ebay??
  10. hey guys - I have purchased a new 8tb drive to ultimately become my second parity drive. I read that it is best to add the second parity drive after the file conversion. That means I have a new spare drive that I could use to help with the conversion. I will need this drive freed up at the end, again to be my second parity drive. I have 8 6tb drives to convert and my current parity is 8tb. I'm using about half of the 48tb, so I have lots of free space to move stuff around and I don't care where my data ends up. I only have one specific disk share for TimeMachine, and I can just delete and recreate that later. I was going back and forth about which process to use, considering the new extra drive and how much time this will take. I think I saw the answer somewhere, but wasn't able to find it - so here goes - can't I just Exclude the first disk to convert from all shares and use the Mover to empty the drive I want to convert? I'm not sure if Mover will move the data off or if I have to do that manually, but that prevent future writes - which I can then reformat, and then Include again at the end. Why does that sound too easy, I must be missing something? Otherwise, I think I will follow the Mirror each disk with rsync, preserving parity procedure, except I would rather use MC than command lines with rsync. Any reason I shouldn't use MC for this?
  11. Glad it all worked out. I'm ready to convert mine, but I'm not sure which procedure to follow. I am leaning towards the unbalance approach, like you did. Now that you are done, can you share the steps you used? Rob said he is planning to write this, but hasn't yet and perhaps he can leverage what you write.
  12. Please answer this question
  13. +1 I just finished clearing two 8tb drives with the previous version, 2017.03.23 I think. Now I see 2017.03.31. I didn't have any errors and I submitted stats for both.
  14. LOL, no pressure at all. I'm still going to try it, but would feel better if I had the step by step from you. My shares are on all data drives, with only one exception - timemachine backups go to a specific disk. I have 8 6tb drives to convert and I'm more about what is easier, even if it takes longer to get the job done. Thanks!
  15. Hi Rob, when do you think you will be able to add a general unBALANCE-based method? I looking to start my conversion next weekend - 8 data drives.
  16. wow, just checking in on this topic and I'm surprised by how many issues you all reported. I noticed a new update today, 2017.03.23 so I installed that. I'm starting a new preclear job on a brand new Seagate Enterprise Capacity 8tb model ST8000NM0055 I'm using gfjardim script so far good, Preclear in progress... Pre-Read: 7% @ 189 MB/s (0:52:51) I'll report back when complete.
  17. Thanks Rob! I was planning to use this process to convert my server and it would be killer to have instructions from you. It's hard to keep track of everything in this thread.
  18. +1 I'm ready to convert my fs too and after reading this thread, I have a headache. I'm looking for the safest process with easy step by step instructions. I did read the instructions on wiki, and they are good, but conflict with other advice in this thread. That is th e only reason I have not started. I would be happy to see the experts agree on best process to follow (how they would convert their fs) and put on post #1 You mentioned a wiki page, are you referring to this one -> File System Conversion If so, I wrote most of it but others have had a hand in improving it, and I'm perfectly willing to revise it further ... I welcome any suggestions. Can I ask what were the conflicts you saw? Yes, that is it. Conflicts may not be the right word, as I see slightly different steps, suggestions in this thread that very a little from the wiki page. So I wonder if the instructions are slightly out of date in terms of best practice. Given I'm ready to get started, I wanted the safest and fastest (easiest) steps get my fs converted. If you needed to convert your fs today, would you follow the wiki exactly, or is there a few suggestions in this thread that you may use? Means, after reading through this, would you update your wiki page, or follow it as is - again if you needed to do this today? If it is good enough for you Rob, it's good enough for me

  20. I upgraded and had the same issue with a PopCorn Hour player, would not connect to SMB share anymore. added ntlm auth = yes to smb config and it's now working again. Thanks! So, is this going to be fixed in the next release, where this settings works correctly without this manual step? I don't want to have to do this every time there is an new release of unraid.
  21. That is weird. Sounds like the install didn't finish. I would uninstall / remove the preclear plugin - and reboot and then install. As for not being able to send the status, Try again after the fresh install and if you still have issues, I would confirm your email SMTP settings are correct and your system can send emails.
  22. try uninstall plugin, and then install again - should pull the current version.
