  1. Thanks! Looks easy. After checking, the only thing I see to watch out for is if you have a LSI sata chipset. I have the Super C2SEE with a Adaptec SATA card, so I should be safe.
  2. Ok, I'm ready to jump in version 5. I'm currently on 4.7. Is this upgrade work the same as all others, or are there specific speps to go from 4.7 to 5? I have done this in the past and was planning to follow this for version 5; -run Check Parity -dl the new unraid install package and connect to my Flash drive (from my Win7 pc). -copied the two main files, bzimage and bzroot to the root of my flash drive -Restart the Unraid server Will that getter done?
  3. I just downloaded Plex for Unraid 0.9.6.4. I also downloaded the Light version from page 1 of this thread. Please let me know if that is not the latest link /file. My current setup is Unraid 4.7, so I'll be upgrading to 5 first. My movie files are on stored on my Unraid via Share. I use my Popcorn Hour A110 and A300 to connect to the Share and play the movies. I would like to Run Plex on the Unraid and connect my PCH devices (as well as iPhone and others). Does anyone have this same setup working? UPDATE: I'm on 5 rc5 and ready to install Plex. Can anyone confirm I have the correct files and if this will work with my popcorn hour stuff? Thanks!
  4. So for the housekeeping junk, are you saying to just ignor all that mess? thanks
  5. Yes, I clicked on the button the main screen and the parity check was ok, zero errors. I always do that after the rebuild is complete for replacement drives. I do not use the server during the rebuild. By that, I don't connect with my pc or stream any media during that time. I guess my mac could auto connect and that would create a connection, but no real use. In any case, it would be nice to get the update and close this gap. It's still running at 58% and still says 7 errors. I hope you are right and this clears it up. After this is done, I will run it yet again and it should come up with zero errors. Fingers crossed! update: ok the parity check completed and ended with the same 7 errors, but as pointed out, they were corrected this time. I rebooted the server and then kicked off another parity check, resulting in zero errors, So, while I don't understand why this happened or what was corrected, things seem to be back to normal. So for the housekeeping junk, are you saying to just ignor all that mess? Thanks, Steve
  6. Ok, thanks Joe! So would you recommend that I change the unmenu monthly parity checker to CORRECT when it runs?
  7. Yes, here is the recent history..... -last month the auto parity check ran with no errors, as it has for a long time. -After that check, I replaced a old drive with a larger one, which I've done many times in the past. The rebuild process worked with no errors. I then ran a CHECK via the button on the main screen. From Joe's message, that does a CORRECT check. It resulted in NO errors. -I then used my server all month with no issues, until the scheduled monthly unmenu service ran last night, resulting in these 7 errors. No addons were added, no other new drives, etc. A simple yank out the old, put in the new, clear it, and then start the rebuild. What is the housekeeping area and should I do anything to clean that up? Thanks
  8. Hi Joe! You wrote: Last time you invoked it in NOCORRECT mode, this time you invoked it in CORRECT mode. The same addresses were still incorrect, but this time they were corrected. I use the unmenu addon that runs the parity check monthly automaticaly. I guess you are saying that package is configured to NOCORRECT. Should it be? When I restarted my server, I manually pushed the CHECK button on the main screen, and I guess based on what you are saying, that does a CORRECT check. Again, should I change this setting? If you run a third parity check you'll probably find all is OK. Other than the packages in unmenu, what 3rd party checkers do you use? There is no easy way to determine which files correspond to the blocks with the errors. It might be part of the empty space on the drive, or part of the file-system structures, or parts of one or more files. Ok, that isn't very good. Not much use in reporting a error if you can't figure out what is causing it and what data is impacted. I wish this service could provide more information about the errors. Thanks again Joe!
  9. No, the past several parity checks have all been zero errors and no hard crashes. Ok, so how can I find out what the errors are, meaning what files on what drives are not happy? I will run another check, as you have suggested, but how will I confirm the errors are the same, or new ones? And last, how can I correct the errors so parity is happy again? edit Ok, so I powered down my server completely and restarted it. I then kicked off another parity check and here is what is in the syslog, oh and the status screen shows it just started a parity check, but already has the 7 errors again, Dec 1 12:13:09 Tower ntpd[1484]: time reset -0.216085 s Dec 1 12:14:20 Tower kernel: mdcmd (24): check CORRECT (unRAID engine) Dec 1 12:14:20 Tower kernel: md: recovery thread woken up ... 11. I'm running 4.7 Final for a long time now, and each month my parity check runs with Zero errors. For some reason this month (today), I got 7 errors so far, as it's still running for another 120 minutes. I'll check it when I get home from work to see if I have more than 7. My question is "Should I be worried about this?" I guess that is the reason the check runs in the first place, but should I look at any logs or confirm that the CORRECTED errors were actually errors and the corrections were good? I read here somewhere a while back that not all corrections are what you may want, as parity may be wrong. The only thing in the syslog is this, Dec 1 00:00:01 Tower kernel: mdcmd (507): check NOCORRECT (unRAID engine) Dec 1 00:00:01 Tower kernel: (Routine) Dec 1 00:00:01 Tower kernel: md: recovery thread woken up ... 12. Hi, I'm running 4.7 and I noticed that I'm now getting the following errors about once a day. There were a few days that didn't get the error at all, but it occurs most days and never at the same time. Time seems to be random. I pasted the few lines after, but I'm focusing on the errors lines. 13. Thanks for the help. Actually, I found the issue. One of my Shares some how got set to SMB export --> read only... I don't know how that was changed but when I put back to RW, all good again. Thanks!
  14. I have not had any issues with my Windows 7 pc and my unraid setup, until recently. The only change I can think of is the 4.7 update I did. Has anyone else had this issue? I've reshared out my shares..duh, ensured I was connected with the correct login info, etc... -rwx------ is what is next to the in Unmenu File Browser. what is the easest way to set all my permissions to Full Control for Root? Thanks, Steve
  15. Ok, I typed this line echo -e "Subject: another test\n\nThis is the email body." | ssmtp -d root and get no output in Putty. I checked the syslog and it stops at "Creating SSL connection to host" I have to kill my Putty session because it just hangs there. I can't seem break out. Control C crashed my pc if done within Putty. For this line, net lookup smtp.gmail.com I get 74.125.53.109 seems to work ok. So why no output and what can we try next? Could be that my ISP is blocking something. I have Comcast... Again, I had this working with bubbaaraid and that requried a mail and notify package too. Could it me that I have packagees or files from that setup that are conflicting with this new package, unmenu, etc? I also see this in my syslog and don't know what it is or what is causing it, may not be related to this issue, May 12 07:09:16 Tower unmenu[1543]: ls: cannot access /boot/custom/etc/rc.d/*: No such file or directory Thanks again! Do you have a firewall in place? Perhaps that is what is blocking the connection. When you had this set up in the past, did you use gmail? or your local comcast e-mail. I don't remember if bubbaRaid could handle SSL connections. (I don't think it did) If you are willing, there is one more way to see exactly what is being accessed, and that is using a debugging utility to trace the files opened and actions taken by ssmtp when it attempts to make a connection. Obviously, it is blocking when attempting to establish a connection. If interested, send a PM. Joe L. I used gmail, same account password and same firewall as I've had for af ew years now. The only thing that changed was running disable bubbaraid and the 4.5.3 TEST upgrade, only the two files, and the unmenu install. Bubaraid did use ssl and it worked fine. I have a backup of my flash before upgrading and disabling BR. I really want this to work, so yes, Ill PM. Steve

  17. First, is it ssmpt -d9 or ssmpt -d99 [email protected] ? You said for to use d9 ,but in your output I see d99? Either should work, use -d9. BUT MAKE SURE YOU USE ssmtp, not ssmpt. (last two characters transposed) Did you press enter TWICE after typing the line: Subject: this is the subject Make sure there is a space after the colon character ":" but before the subject text. the final control-D is only needed to close the connection. The connections is established when you press enter a second time after typing the subject line. You've not shown any attempt to connect. All the text I showed came to my screen, not the syslog. I'm using the same version of putty. If you'd like, use the system console to type the commands... To be sure you are running the same program try: root@Tower:/# which ssmtp /usr/sbin/ssmtp root@Tower:/# ssmtp -? ssmtp: No recipients supplied - mail will not be sent root@Tower:/# ssmtp -V sSMTP 2.60.4 (Not sendmail at all) for this part, To be sure you are running the same program try: root@Tower:/# which ssmtp /usr/sbin/ssmtp root@Tower:/# ssmtp -? ssmtp: No recipients supplied - mail will not be sent root@Tower:/# ssmtp -V sSMTP 2.60.4 (Not sendmail at all) I got he same as you, so that part is good. However, after typing, ssmtp -d9 [email protected] Subject: this is a test hit enter twice, I see nothing on my screen, no output?? I have to put a monitor on my unraid server to do this directly, never thought I'd need a acutal monitor. I'm not sure that will help. I'm worried as to why I would not get any screen output from the first few steps.
  18. First, is it ssmpt -d9 or ssmpt -d99 [email protected] ? You said for to use d9 ,but in your output I see d99? control D dosen't do anything, and I don't get that. I'm running Windows7 and Putty .60. After I type "this is a test of email connec...." I hit enter and then tried to do a control D. Nothing on my screen at all. Just what I typed. I don't get any output response, but I am most likely doing something wrong.
  19. The results of the configuration end up in /usr/local/etc/ssmtp/ssmtp.conf once installed. So take a look at it. Don't post it without editing it to remove your real e-mail and password. Ok, let's try something on the command line You will need to end the following set of typed commands with a "Control-D" You will see the debugging output as ssmtp communicates with gmail. We will do this without the "mail" front end, so type as instructed in blue below. ssmtp -d9 [email protected] <- this sets debug mode for ssmtp Subject: this is a test <- after this line press enter twice. this is a test of e-mail connectivity <- this is the body of the email message Control-D <-this is a single "Control-D" character. It signifies the end of the message. My session with ssmtp looked like this: ssmtp -d99 [email protected] Subject: testing once more <- I pressed enter TWICE after this line [<-] 220 mx.google.com ESMTP y34567ana.4 [->] EHLO localhost [<-] 250 ENHANCEDSTATUSCODES [->] STARTTLS [<-] 220 2.0.0 Ready to start TLS [->] EHLO localhost [<-] 250 ENHANCEDSTATUSCODES [->] AUTH LOGIN ameryWdS8= [<-] 334 URtHySwTT6 [->] Egt4RfYthWddENA== [<-] 235 2.7.0 Accepted [->] MAIL FROM:<root@localhost> [<-] 250 2.1.0 OK ameryWdS8na.4 [->] RCPT TO:<[email protected]> [<-] 250 2.1.5 OK ameryWdS8na.4 [->] DATA [<-] 354 Go ahead ameryWdS8na.4 [->] Received: by localhost (sSMTP sendmail emulation); Mon, 10 May 2010 15:16:01 -0400 [->] From: root@localhost [->] Date: Mon, 10 May 2010 15:16:01 -0400 [->] Subject: testing once more [->] this is a test [->] this is a test <- after this line I pressed "Control-D" [->] . If the password or login is wrong, we should see it get rejected. One question, just came to me. Do you have any spaces or quote marks, or <> symbols in your email or password? No, email and password do not have any of those. I'm using Putty and had trouble with the Control D. Pressing CTRL D on my keyboard did nothing. I then tried typing {%CTRL%}D I had to just kill my session Here is what I saw in the syslog, May 10 12:48:20 Tower sSMTP[12148]: Set Root="[email protected]" May 10 12:48:20 Tower sSMTP[12148]: Set MailHub="smtp.gmail.com" May 10 12:48:20 Tower sSMTP[12148]: Set RemotePort="465" May 10 12:48:20 Tower sSMTP[12148]: Set HostName="[email protected]" May 10 12:48:20 Tower sSMTP[12148]: Set UseSTARTTLS="True" May 10 12:48:20 Tower sSMTP[12148]: Set AuthUser="gmail accountname" May 10 12:48:20 Tower sSMTP[12148]: Set AuthPass="mypassword" May 10 12:48:20 Tower sSMTP[12148]: Set FromLineOverride="True" May 10 12:48:29 Tower sSMTP[12148]: Creating SSL connection to host May 10 12:49:53 Tower sSMTP[11672]: Connection lost in middle of processing because I wasn't able to complete the instruction with the control D, I'm not sure what this means, but the entry in the syslog isn't good. 20. To be certain, reboot. Request re-install on reboot for the compiler. Ok, set the complier to reinstall on reboot, and rebooted. I then went to package manager and selected the ssmtp package again, it downloaded and installed. This time my information was already there, didn't have to configure anything. I thought that part was weird being I thought we deleted all of that stuff. Hit the Send Test email and still no luck, browser just hangs and says waiting for server to send......bla..bla.... during this phase, unmenu is hung, meaning if I click to go the the Main page, I get a link is broken error from IE. 21. Joe, I was not able to do this one, rm /boot/packages/ssmtp-2.61/* I get a cannot remove error, .../mdSauth': Is a directory For this one, rm /boot/packages/ssmtp.conf no such file exists...error All of the others worked just fine. I wanted to check with you because of the two I got errors on... Now when I go to the Package Manager, I see that mail ssmtp is not installed, good. However, it still shows the C complier as installed I want to know if we should continue to try to uninstall the compiler, or (being the compiler already shows as installed) should I just try to install the mail/ssmpt package? Thanks

Help Joe! This is driving me crazy, been trying to get this to work all day. arg! Once ssmtp is compiled, it does not need to do it again, so it skips that step. Let's type a few commands that will guarantee it is all re-compiled as expected. to remove the existing install of ssmtp, type: rm /usr/sbin/ssmtp rm /boot/packages/ssmtp-2.61/ssmtp rm /boot/packages/ssmtp_2.61.orig.tar.gz rm /boot/packages/ssmtp-2.61/* rm /usr/bin/sendmail rm /usr/local/etc/ssmtp/ssmtp.conf rm /boot/packages/ssmtp.conf rm /boot/packages/openssl-0.9.8i-i486-1.tgz rm /boot/packages/mailx-12.3-i486-1.tgz rm /usr/bin/mail rm /bin/mail Then, you should be able to start from the beginning Install the compiler, then edit the config variables in ssmtp, then install it.
