  1. link to the thread with details on the changes to the Norco case please?
  2. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1119818
  3. Thanks Rob, I very much appreciate you checking it out. Yeah, shortly after posting I got the same feeling. For another $20 the Promise sounds like a much better choice (or as you say, trying to find one on ebay for a deal).
  4. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816115009 I was interested in using one of these with unraid to run 4 ide pata drives. Anybody know if this controller might be supported in the latest kernel?
  5. I was lured by the extra 2 sata ports and was thinking in terms of future expansion and/or use with a 20 drive case like the Norco RPC-4020. Also I currently have 4 pata drives I'd prefer to keep using for the moment, so I'd have to buy a card to run those. Not expensive I know but that combined with the extra $ of the ddr3 ram was kind of putting me off the C2SEE I guess. I would need a card for the extra 2 pata drives with the UD3P too but I'd get one of the Rosewill Rosewill RC-216 that can do 2 pata and 2 sata for $25. But no question it's not worth risking without some assurance it will actually function well, particularly in that maxed out or near maxed out capacity, hence my inquiry. C'mon, somebody else do all the testing and risk taking for me will ya!
  6. another very interested in any reports about using this board for an unraid server
  7. I presume neither of these was at the time nor is now on the motherboard compatibility list? http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php?title=Hardware_Compatibility#Motherboard
  8. Thanks, exactly the kind of info I was after. Makes sense to me. If 'VT' enabled chips were important for vmware performance for the average (non ESX) user, I suppose we'd be hearing about it.
  9. Cool, thanks very helpful!
  10. Ok, so some of the 'old' chips have it too. The essence of my question was whether this feature was worth seeking out or not. Your reply doesn't add much to inform that topic.
  11. Any opinions on whether it might be worthwhile to go for one of the new chips with the 'virtualization technology' such as the E8000 series?
  12. I'm interested in the GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P too. One thing that has me confused is that the Gigabyte website specs say 1 ide connector for 2 device pata support. http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/Manual_Model.aspx?ProductID=2919 The manual confirms this. http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/Manual_DownloadFile.aspx?FileType=Manual&FileID=18772 However the photos from both the Gigabyte site and newegg appear to show a motherboard with two ide connectors. Possibly a mistake? Possibly there's a revision with two ide connectors (seems unlikely)? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128358 Most won't care about this but I have four pata devices that I'd like to run temporarily. I was planning to buy a pci-e 2 port sata 2 port pata controller since most new boards only have one ide connector but if I don't have to it'll save me a few bucks.
  13. I'm not finding any 4.5 betas listed at http://lime-technology.com/dnlds/ Also, wasn't there a mention of an imminent 4.5-beta2 awhile back?
  14. Thanks for the comments. I don't have a sense yet of how some of the processors I mentioned compare to my E6600 2.4GHz 4M shared L2 Cache and/or how vmware would 'feel' on those.
  15. cool, thanks bubbaQ did not realize that! So I know you run a vmware server on unRAID. What processor are you using now and what would you buy today if something different? For what it's worth I haven't ruled out AMD, I'm just more familar with the Intel word......
  16. I want to put together a new machine for my next unRAID server which will be able to run at least a couple of virtual machines, a linux box functioning primarily as a mail server (ie fairly low resource requirements) and a Win XP machine to do miscellaneous tasks such as transcoding media files. It's possible I'd want to run another vm for something else at some point. I was thinking of using at least 4 gig of ram and possibly 8 on the unRAID box. I was considering an Abit AB9 Pro (I'm aware Abit is going out of business) and understand it cannot use the newer 45nm (Wolfdale) Intel chips. Would an Intel E2200 or E2220 be adequate for my application or should I jump to an E4600? Would I be better off going with a motherboard that would support the E5000 or E7000 series Intel chips? I have an htpc with a Core 2 Duo E6600 65nm (Conroe) and am curious how that compares with the E2000/E5000/E7000 series. I might decide to use the E6600 if that made sense.
  17. Thanks. I definitely understand the case size problem but what are the primary advantages you see for the mbd-x7sbe over the AB9 Pro? The first thing I notice is losing 3 sata connections...
  18. WeeboTech, can you please say a little more about why you dislike your AB9 enough to get rid of it? I have an Asus P5PE-VM and have max'd out the drive connections and was interested in replacing it with an AB9 or another recommended motherboard.

    Bluray .iso's

Here's a thread which discusses some (relatively) simple steps to reduce the size of ripped blu-ray movies while maintaining the original quality. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1030971
  20. This page? http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php?title=PSU I don't see anything addressing this specific question, unless you mean that a single rail supply will deliver full power on any of the leads. You mean the one that Tom ships with his pre built systems? That would be the PC Power & Cooling Silencer 610 EPS12V
  21. Thanks, that appears to do the trick. It would be cool to hook this into the script that runs when the 'Stop' button on the web interface is pushed for my particular application. Any ideas on that?
  22. PS I've subsuqently found the below thread and am making my way through the solution. I presume this should be what I need.... Shutdown unRAID from shortcut http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=812.0
  23. Is there a way to create these commands as a file on the flsh drive and execute them from the command line? I tried this and got the below errors I also couldn't figure out how to type the complete text on the command line (the for loop etc) thanks for any help --Don ==== : No such file or directory cp: cannot create regular file '/boot/syslog.txt\r': Invalid argument chmod: cannot access '/boot/syslog.txt\r': No such file or directory -bash: samba: command not found ....
