  1. Cool. Not being able to use unMenu updates for fear of overwriting something that works with something that doesn't isn't good (to me). I know there's a manual method to 'protect' any given package from updates, but again that's a less than ideal mechanism.
  2. So we're waiting on Joe to get the latest update added to unMenu?
  3. I haven't rebooted in quite awhile so I don't have boot related entries in my current log. What were your results from the settings I suggested?
  4. Yes! And I've been meaning to post about it. Super annoying and it's hard to imagine it's supposed to be this way and/or somebody else hasn't run into it. I found that on my board it would only work if I turned off the setting for Restore on AC Power Loss to Last State (and maybe Power-Off) but NOT the one I obviously would want (Power-On) Would be interested to see if you see the same behavior.
  5. I love these discussions, thanks for the great input!
  6. I disagree because you left out one simple common scenario. You need a new disc and so buy the largest available to *replace* your parity drive. The old parity drive is then used as your new disc. You see the benefit by continuing to swap in larger and larger drives in the system over time *without* buying two at a time. This makes a lot of sense to me.
  7. Thanks. Confirming the name/location of the shutdown script would also help assuming unMenu with Clean Powerdown script.
  8. Any details with syntax for adding a stop transmission command to the shut-down scripts would be appreciated.
  9. And thank you for taking the time to type up the real world end user issues that will doubtless save many a headache and get us closer to making this thing easier to deploy.
  10. Yep, have seen all this. Using a script in the windows startup folder which gets executed on boot seems to solve it. I do use unraid spindown for all drives. Below is what mine looks like. After booting my Win 7 machine sleeps and wakes without issue and the drive reconnect feature seems to work. @echo off rem reconnect raid_01 drives manually since vista/win 7 mapped drives reconnect fails rem first disconnect all drives and re-login to confirm no re-connect rem net use * /d net use H: \\raid_01\disk1 net use I: \\raid_01\disk2 net use J: \\raid_01\disk3 net use K: \\raid_01\disk4 rem net use X: \\raid_01\cache
  11. How much ram do you have? I'm curious about any user experiences with 4 GB (or less) ram.
  12. Another thank you to gfjardim and to Joe for possibly trying to make this into unMenu. Both efforts are very much appreciated.
  13. Hmmm, hope to see the gurus figure this out. I've been running transmission a lot and really like it but it's not worth it if it's gonna kill the flash drive......
  14. Thanks very cool! The only problem I'm having is it seems to have no way to allow interactive selection of only a part of a torrent (ie a single file). The utorrent client has this capability when 'opening' a torrent. The transmission web interface can deselect files after a torrent has started via the 'Inspector' mechanism (see the 'f' icon)
  15. I'm talking about the 12V 8 pin cpu power connector on the C2SEE motherboard. The 12V 8 pin cpu power supply cable doesn't reach it. The question for other users with this motherboard is what solution are they using with this case?
  16. One thing I haven't seen mentioned by folks here using this case with a supermicro c2see motherboard is the issue of the power supply 8 pin cable not reaching the connector (jpw2) on this motherboard. The case manual mentions an 8 pin power extender part CBL - 0062 to remedy this. There is a 4 pin cable from the power supply that reaches the 8 pin port on the motherboard and the system powers up and seems ok with only half this connector filled but I thought I ask about it.
  17. The istar does not come with the extras in the pic, but I agree if it did that would be a big draw. Thanks for the review link, very helpful. I worry about this: "Can’t work with RL-20 or RL-26 rail, need SA-3202 bracket or SA-5696 cantilever shelf for mounting rackmount cases" I wonder if the rails that come with the SuperMicro SC933T-R760 case won't work with this rack?
  18. Thanks for these scripts. Is there any possibility at some point for such a script be able to tell if a fan has failed and then possibly make use of smtp capability to email that to a user?
  19. Great timing. I bought same and have the same desire. I like the looks of this one which can be had in the states for ~$300 delivered. The pic for this is showing extra options (the shelf and some kind of drawer) http://www.istarusa.com/server_cabinet/open_frame_rack/22u/wo22ab.aspx
  20. If you only copied over bzimage/bzroot, it's not possible for the other settings to be lost, unless perhaps you have a bad Flash device. I can confirm this didn't happen to me. I was running v4.5.6 and copied over only bzimage and bzroot from v4.6-rc1
  21. If it's not too much trouble could you please point to the source for the unraid-fan-speed.sh you're using? I've searched around* but I didn't find a definitive match. Any specific comments/lessons learned would be greatly appreciated. I'm using all the same hardware (below) EDIT: oops read the 'Temperature-based fan speed control for unRAID' thread more carefully and found the posted scripts and your posts, probably all I need C2SEE 2 x Cooler Master R4-BM8S-30PK-R0 4 x Cooler Master R4-BM9S-28PK-R0 * Temperature-based fan speed control for unRAID http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=5583.0 UnRAID Topical Index, Fans and Air Flow http://www.lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php?title=UnRAID_Topical_Index#Fans bubbaQ 2008 script example http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=2857.msg23752#msg23752
  22. Thanks very much for all the details, very helpful!
  23. I have a dumb question about the PWM Y splitter probably anybody could answer: I'm seeing a lot of 3 pin fan header splitters such as this one by StarTech http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812200455&cm_re=fan_splitter_cable-_-12-200-455-_-Product but no similar connector 4 pin version. Don't I need a single (small) 4 pin female to (2) (small) 4 pin male connectors version for my C2SEE to run two 4 pin fans like the R4-BM8S-30PK-R0 or R4-BM9S-28PK-R0 from one of the motherboard fan headers? If so an example would help. EDIT: I think I found one http://www.outletpc.com/c2226.html
  24. Damn I ordered one of these to use with my C2SEE hoping to be able to control the fan speed from the motherboard too....
