  1. Thanks for the reply. That helped. I was able to update the windwos vm and boot. I installed nvidia driver in windows. However in device manager the display adapter is not working. I get Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43) Any troubleshooting advice.
  2. I had a windows VM running without issue and wanted to see if i could pass through the gfx. I installed the gfx Nvidia 970 and selected it but get the dreaded vfio error below Here are my iommu groups. Any help appreciated. Thanks
  3. Upgraded to Beta 14. Rebuilt dockers. Parity speed about half of what it was with beta 12 for me. Ran about 50% of a parity check in 10 hours. With Beta 12, the whole parity check took about 12 hours. I stopped the check and rebooted. Now running parity again at about 44 MB/sec. With beta 12 ran at about 80 MB/sec. Anyone else having issues with parity speed with beta 14. Thanks System log attached. syslog_2.zip
  4. A crashplan question. My crashplan disk and parity disk remain spinning. Is there anyway to change the crashplan settings to have these disks spin down? For the computers backing up to unraid, I changed crashplan settings to run between specified times. I noted that this did not make a difference. I noticed that there is an option to allow backups and restores to run between specified times for inbound backups. Would this solve the issue. Anyone try this yet or have a different solution? Thanks
  5. Thanks to all who made this happen!!! A quick question. Does it matter if the crashplan app data is on the cache disk or on one of the array drives. Seemed to me that it would be better to have it backed up on an array disk but I have no experience with such and wondered what those in the know thought?
  6. I was using rsync and somehow a folder was created (not sure how) named _2X680~Y. This folder has multiple subfolders. I went to delete it on my windows machine and got "you need permission to perform this action." I tried to change permissions in windows without success (access is denied). I telneted into the server with Putty. When I go to the directory with this folder and use the ls command, _2x680~Y is not listed. I tried ls -a in case it is somehow hidden and I the folder is still not listed. Any ideas about where this folder came from and how to delete it? I know very very basic linux only. ls, rm, cd etc. Thanks
  7. Solved but not certain exactly how. With both configurations of disk assignment as above, I hit apply for disks included in share even though it already said "all". When I restarted the array, I was able to see the data on both disks.
  8. All disks are included under share settings and none excluded. If I reassign drives again and switch disk 4 and disk 7 back to the original configuration I can always see the data on disk 7 and never on disk 4 no matter which disk it is. Very odd.
  9. Sorry, for responding to my own post but I should add On the drive where I cannot see any files on the windows computer, if I look at "view" for that disk on the tower web page under "Array Devices" all files appear present.
  10. Running version 6 beta 12 I wanted to rearrange two disks to different slots. I powered down and shifted the positions of disk 7 and disk 4. I restarted the array and reassigned the disks. I thought I did all this correctly per the wiki (see below). Now I see the data on disk 7 (former disk 4) but not on disk 4 (former disk 7). Disk 4 appears empty when I browse it from a windows computer. However, On the unraid web page it stated that 641GB are used. Any help about steps to take now are appreciated. From the Wiki... How do I move my existing unRAID array to a new system?[edit] Before you shut down your current server, write down which disks (by make/serial number) are assigned to which (logical) slot in your array. Or do a screen capture of the Devices tab, press Alt-PrntScrn, paste in MS Paint or IrfanView, and print out. Stop the array and shut it down cleanly. After you start up your new array with your new motherboard, it is likely that the Linux devices (disk controllers/channels) will have changed, so check the Devices tab and re-assign any that are incorrect. The most important drive to assign correctly is the parity drive. It is not more important than your data, but if you assign one of your data drives to the parity slot as a result of getting the drives mixed up, it will result in your data drive being overwritten when a parity write occurs. For more detail and some good advice, see Replacing the Motherboard in Your unRAID Server.
  11. Just wondering if there is a plan to deal with this since the potential changes for rc4 did not work out. It would be great to have time machine work without issue.
  12. I am running 5.2 with Lion and get the following error on my lion machine. "Something wrong with the volume's CNID DB, using temporary CNID DB instead.Check server messages for details. Switching to read-only mode. Time machine eventually seems to work. Is this a netatalk issue? Relevant part of syslog is attached. Thanks. syslog-2012-05-09.txt
  13. Thanks for your help. That did it. Rebuilding now. Just out of interest, I thought the array wasn't supposed to start once the disk was replaced. Any ideas why this happened?
  14. I am running version 5 beta 10. I had a drive that I thought had failed. Red ball and many write errors. I replaced the drive with one of equal size. The array started with the failed disk "not intalled." When I try to stop the array to assign the new disk I get unmounting disk, Retry unmounting disk, Retry unmounting disk over and over. I don't think I am running anything but unraid. Any advice?
  15. I would. After 3 years, I had my first drive die this weekend. I just put in a new drive and had no issues with it rebuilding. No data was lost. For me, Unraid (and XBMC) has been a perfect solution. The ability to add different drives as I progressed is what sold me.
  16. My array has been working fine frecently a drive was not recognized. After a reboot without changing the drive I let unraid rebuild this drive. This happened without incident and without any errors. I am now troubleshooting. Unfortunately, I did not capture a syslog at the time of the error. Anyway, Smart showed UDMA_CRC_Error_Count on this disk to be 8 (all smart data below). I switched the sata cable. The value of the udma crc error count remains 8. I am wondering if this is a problem or is this a result of prior issues and will this gradually normalize.. Any info is appreciated. 17. Just a quick question? Does it matter how many sata plugs there are on a single power supply? Are there adapters/splitters that one can use to power numerous drives?
  18. Thanks for the reply. The reason I was thinking about this was that we frequently go to my parents and it would be nice to have access to movies etc for kids for the weekend. Just wondering if there was an easy way to do this. I did not think of the upstream spead. I think that you are correct that this would be a limiting factor.
  19. This is off topic for unraid but I am interested in seeing what people do. I run xbmc with unraid and love it. I am wondering how to connect to my unraid over the internet securely with xbmc when I am on the road. It would be great to be able to just plug in the xbox and have access to all unraid files. Is anyone doing something similar to this? How can it be done securely? Is windows remote access secure enough? Is it a problem that my internet connection give me a dynamic IP? Thanks for any recommendations/ information.
  20. Drive A was about half full and with some reorginization, I moved the data to drive B. I now want to put data back on drive A. Should I reformat this drive before using it again? If yes, what is the commmand to reformat a drive? Thanks.
  21. My ethernet adapter on this MOBO died today. Replaced it with a netgear gigabit pci adapter (only one I could find locally). It worked. What have the rest of you done? Should I return the MOBO. Will they send me a new one before I send this one back? This seems to be a problem with this board.
  22. I have been reorginizing my files. I have moved many files from one drive and placed them on another drive. Is there any reason to defragment drives ever? If so how can this be done?
  23. Thanks for the info. I am not sure why wake on LAN doesn't work for me. The MOBO appears to be in the suspend state per the manual (green light on) and it will wake with keyboard press or mouse movement. I wonder if it is a network issue. If I figure it out, I will post.
  24. Interesting, If I click power down, the system does power off. When I hit space on PS2 keyboard, the system powers on. I still can't wake on lan despit having resume on lan enabled. I have tried two different magic packet programs. My system is running fine and has not gone into suspension without me powering down.
