WhiteGuardian
Hello everybody, On my HP DL380e G8 Server I replaced the original P420 Controller with a H240 configured in HBA mode. Hoping that this card will provide me the S.M.A.R.T values and the Temps from the HDD's. I've got 12 Drives attached and with the P420 all Drives were shown, now with the H240 I see only 3 drives in unRaid, but in the iLO console from the server, there will be all 12 drives listed. So I think that the controller is not passing it through. The weird thing about this is, that there are only this 3 drives were shown, no matter in what slot they are. Is there something else to configure? Thanks. Best Regards Thomas Quote Link to comment

Might be something with the controller, or the way the drive are formatted. Either way, difficult to say for sure but your diagnostics could help. Go to Tools / Diagnostics and attach the full zip to your next post. Quote Link to comment
WhiteGuardian
Hello ChatNoir, The drives are fomatted in xfs - encrypted, but i think that this should not be the problem. Here is the Diagnostics zip undragon-diagnostics-20210830-1732.zip Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
This is a RAID controller and not recommended for Unraid, but it might work if you initialize/export the disks, note that all disks are detected by the controller: Aug 30 17:14:50 UnDragon kernel: hpsa 0000:0d:00.0: scsi 7:0:0:0: added RAID HP H240 controller SSDSmartPathCap- En- Exp=1 Aug 30 17:14:50 UnDragon kernel: hpsa 0000:0d:00.0: scsi 7:0:1:0: masked Direct-Access HITACHI HUS723020ALS641 PHYS DRV SSDSmartPathCap- En- Exp=0 Aug 30 17:14:50 UnDragon kernel: hpsa 0000:0d:00.0: scsi 7:0:2:0: masked Direct-Access ATA WDC WD20EARX-008 PHYS DRV SSDSmartPathCap- En- Exp=0 Aug 30 17:14:50 UnDragon kernel: hpsa 0000:0d:00.0: scsi 7:0:3:0: masked Direct-Access HITACHI HUS723020ALS641 PHYS DRV SSDSmartPathCap- En- Exp=0 Aug 30 17:14:50 UnDragon kernel: hpsa 0000:0d:00.0: scsi 7:0:4:0: masked Direct-Access ATA WDC WD20EURX-63T PHYS DRV SSDSmartPathCap- En- Exp=0 Aug 30 17:14:50 UnDragon kernel: hpsa 0000:0d:00.0: scsi 7:0:5:0: added Direct-Access ATA WDC WD20EURX-64H PHYS DRV SSDSmartPathCap- En- Exp=1 Aug 30 17:14:50 UnDragon kernel: hpsa 0000:0d:00.0: scsi 7:0:6:0: masked Direct-Access ATA WDC WD20EURX-63T PHYS DRV SSDSmartPathCap- En- Exp=0 Aug 30 17:14:50 UnDragon kernel: hpsa 0000:0d:00.0: scsi 7:0:7:0: masked Direct-Access ATA ST8000VN0022-2EL PHYS DRV SSDSmartPathCap- En- Exp=0 Aug 30 17:14:50 UnDragon kernel: hpsa 0000:0d:00.0: scsi 7:0:8:0: masked Direct-Access ATA WDC WD20EURX-64H PHYS DRV SSDSmartPathCap- En- Exp=0 Aug 30 17:14:50 UnDragon kernel: hpsa 0000:0d:00.0: scsi 7:0:9:0: added Direct-Access ATA WDC WD30EURX-63T PHYS DRV SSDSmartPathCap- En- Exp=1 Aug 30 17:14:50 UnDragon kernel: hpsa 0000:0d:00.0: scsi 7:0:10:0: added Direct-Access ATA WDC WD30EURX-63T PHYS DRV SSDSmartPathCap- En- Exp=1 Aug 30 17:14:50 UnDragon kernel: hpsa 0000:0d:00.0: scsi 7:0:11:0: masked Direct-Access ATA CT500MX500SSD1 PHYS DRV SSDSmartPathCap- En- Exp=0 Aug 30 17:14:50 UnDragon kernel: hpsa 0000:0d:00.0: scsi 7:0:12:0: masked Direct-Access ATA Samsung SSD 840 PHYS DRV SSDSmartPathCap- En- Exp=0 Aug 30 17:14:50 UnDragon kernel: hpsa 0000:0d:00.0: scsi 7:0:13:0: masked Enclosure HP Gen8 ServBP 12+2 enclosure SSDSmartPathCap- En- Exp=0 Looks like the ones that are being detected by Unraid are the ones with Exp=1 in then end, I never used any of these controllers, but maybe Exp means export, check controller BIOS for options. WhiteGuardian
Hello JorgeB, I have set the Controller to HBA Mode, so it should pass through all drives to unRaid. I will check the BIOS again. Thx. Quote Link to comment
WhiteGuardian
After checking the config of the controller, I discoverd that the config of the drives needs to be reset. Because it seems that there was a config on the drives, from the HP P420 Controller. The Lines Masked from HBA and Drive exposed to OS, was the same on all the drives that were not passed through to unRAID. Smart HBA H240 in Slot 3 (HBA Mode) HBA Drives physicaldrive 2I:1:1 Masked from HBA: The drive contains controller configuration data and has been disabled in order to protect the configuration data. Please run the "modify clearconfigdata" command on the drive to re-enable it. I've got to do this on all drives from 2I:1:1 - 2I:1:n I've done this in a Live Ubuntu. In my case: ssacli controller slot=3 physicaldrive 2I:1:1 modify clearconfigdata Thanks again for the Help. Stuart Greig
Should this work with a non HP HBA card? I'm having the exact same issue but I have a PERC h200e HBA card inside my DL380 Gen9 server. Quote Link to comment
