Beryllium
Dear all To increase the amount of disks I can use I bought myself a HBA card flashed in IT mode: https://www.ebay.at/itm/394145329121 LSI 9207-8i (IBM M5110) FLASHED TO IT MODE PCI-E SAS2308 ZFS UNRAID TRUENAS Installing this card into my Unraid server causes bootloop. To be more precise I do not even get an HDMI output, the fans spin up then after like 10s the PC shuts down and reboots. The moment I remove the card unraid can boot normally and everything works. Assuming the card is defect I put it into my Windows machine and there it worked fine. (at least I could boot and the PCIe device was shown) Unraid HW: MSI P67A-G45 (MS-7673) i7-3770 GTX 1080 (I also tried changing the PCIe slots between the gpu and HBA card) Windows HW: ASUS ROG Crosshair VII HERO X470 Ryzen 7 3700X RTX 2080ti My current assumption is that my MB cannot access the ROM of the HBA card or something in that direction. Since booting on my windows machine that is what is being loaded first? Thanks for any support! Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
Looks more like a board compatibility issue, if installed delete the BIOS from the HBA, it's not needed for Unraid and it can cause boot issues with some hardware. Quote Link to comment
Beryllium
How would I go about deleting the bios? According to the seller it should already be in IT mode if that is what you are saying? I am trying this now: https://forums.servethehome.com/index.php?attachments/pin5-6-jpg.281/ http://yannickdekoeijer.blogspot.com/2012/04/modding-dell-perc-6-sas-raidcontroller.html Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
BIOS is separate form IT/IR mode, both can have it or not: https://forums.unraid.net/topic/12114-lsi-controller-fw-updates-irit-modes/?do=findComment&comment=632252 Quote Link to comment
Beryllium
Hey I am a bit out of my depth here, also the main reason I bought the IT mode card. Taping the pins works, but ideally I want to not do that. This is the card menu: I d I dont really see anything there. I went to the link you sent, downloaded this: And When I follow the readme I arrive at this error trying to list the card: I guess I need to get into a DOS menu to launch the sas2flash -o -e 5 command? Not sure which .img to use with rufus? The bootfile in here: https://wiki.unraid.net/Crossflashing_Controllers#sas2flash Seems to be deleted? Quote Link to comment

Beryllium
I am in my normal windows machine: Quote Link to comment
Beryllium
I will try following it here: https://lazymocha.com/blog/2020/06/05/cross-flash-ibm-servraid-m5110-and-h1110-to-it-hba-mode/ Basically I don't need to flash anything or? After booting into FreeDOS I will just need to sas2flash -o -e 5 and then it should be fine? Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
Just now, Beryllium said: and then it should be fine? It will delete the BIOS, then see if it helps or not, it won't hurt. Quote Link to comment
Squid
(BTW, I wouldn't be surprised if at that price point the card is counterfeit and substandard) 1 Quote Link to comment

Ok will try when I get back home! 17 minutes ago, Squid said: (BTW, I wouldn't be surprised if at that price point the card is counterfeit and substandard) Wait what really? How would I test it? I mean with the taping of the pins I saw the two drives that were attached to the card. I just don't like to tape stuff It does get rather hot after only running like 10 min. Quote Link to comment
Beryllium
Ok I managed to delete the BIOS version: Now on my Windows machine it boots directly into the bios, but on the Unraid machine it still gets stuck in the bootloop. Taping the 5 & 6 PCI pins still works. I guess I will need to do that? Not sure if this is a motherboard issue? Any settings I would need to change? Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
Look for a way to disable SMBus over PCIe, Supermicro boards usually have jumpers for this, and after doing no need to tape the pins, but unlikely a desktop board will have that option. 1 Quote Link to comment
Solution Beryllium Posted October 26, 2022 Author Solution Share Posted October 26, 2022 ok thanks for all the help!! will check, but it is a super old board with not a lot of documentation. I guess taping will be my option. Quote Link to comment
