What steps to reconnect server after moving to a new office?

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I have moved my server and a workstation pc from an office to home. Now I wish to reconnect to it.,

I have forgotten a lot from its setup by now.

Could someone point me out at steps I should take to connect into my Unraid from the PC and access its NAS?

Btw, At home I have connected both machines simply with an ethernet cable (like it used to be in the office before adding switch and router), however I have no access to LAN from IPS. I have wifi.

Many thanks,

DS

Thanks for the reply Jorge!

I'm trying establish connection from desktop pc via browser by putting "Local access URLs", the same which is shown during Unraid boot.

However, what I get is "This site can't be reached."

The server is not connected to the internet.

Workstation PC is, via wifi.

Both machines are connected with each other with an ethernet cable.

On boot, Unraid shows the same IP as it was in the previous location.

I can manoeuvre Unraid settings via webUI.

The server shows 192.168.100.10.

This is the new IP we have setup while creating a small subnet with extra switch and router. That subnet was still in WIP as never got connected to IPS directly to have fixed IP.

Basically its just PC connected to a server which works as NAS. Before upgrade by adding extra switch and router, it was just pc and server machine connected together and to the dynamic wan.

Now difference is that there is no wan ethernet cable here. I have wifi only.

Also this time I skipped connecting switch and router since all but one ethernet cables are useless now, no?

Functionally the switch and router with pfSense didn't contribute anything practical as the setup was still wip, as no fixed IP was acquired.

How to be sure the IP is fixed?

Another thing is, that I will be relocating to that previous location soon, so ideally any changed would like to be revertible quickly.

I have concerns about deleting config/network.cfg manually form the flashdrive.

  • 5 weeks later...

I changed the config file name and booted OS back again.

It got a new IP address 169.254.18...displayed when booting Unraid.

This is not the IP I have on the workstation. Not even close.

Nevertheless I used it to successfully connect from the workstation.

Many thanks!
