This is what I have - original jellyfin/jellyfin container - latest intel-gpu-top for monitoring - enabled Intel QuickSync transcoding - added/removed i915 modprobe from boot/go file (should not be needed since I have intel_top_gpu) - added device in docker template as /dev/dri/ (also tried extra properties) - device shows up in both container and host when I list. Is there anything more to be done? When I play a stream I expect intel-gpu-top to show some kind of activity. unraid-diagnostics-20230920-2017.zip Quote Link to comment
Mainfrezzer Posted September 20, 2023 Share Posted September 20, 2023 The Jellyfin page has a good informational "guide" for that in regards to the settings https://jellyfin.org/docs/general/administration/hardware-acceleration/intel/ They do not list every codec setting for each generation but theres a section called "transcode other codecs" which will send you to the intel page with the infos. Otherwise heres a bunch of hevc 10 bit testfiles https://kodi.wiki/view/Samples Edit: On second look, seems like jellyfin is only remuxing the audio, you could try to force 360p to actually transcode the video. How silly! It is always a bad idea to enable everything, I would also recommend that you disable allow encode in HEVC. You can also get a full list of what is supported by your chip in terms of video codecs over here: Click (your chip is Coffee Lake if I'm not mistaken). I would also recommend that you switch from QSV (QuickSync) to VA-API in Jellyfin to avoid further issues. Quote Link to comment

Anyways, IIRC one of the devs said that he is implementing a button to force encode in HEVC and reactivating this option again to a upcoming version. EDIT: I just tried it now and it defaults always to h264 regardless what is set in the server options, however if you force HLS in the Jellyfin app on your device (for example on my iPhone xS) by using their native player it is working and the stream is transcoded or better speaking sent over in h265. 1 Quote Link to comment

Would have to look into that. Were only using Jellyfin via browser and the Jellycon plugin for Kodi on firetv sticks. I did look into that since there is a force hevc options but that doesnt seem to do much. Still ends up with h264. Same with the jellyfin plugin for kodi, but that one plays back the original file just fine via direct play. its odd. Same applies to kodi on the pc only h264 for transcodes, although that one is even stranger for direct playback. Kodi is able to force my monitor in hdr mode despite the fact that hdr is disabled. But i do use the linuxserver container, so that might be the reason. Edit: HOLY MOLY the official player app does work on pc, if you force hevc on!
