indeterminate-bookshop3512
Hi All I have a plan to have a backup unraid box in my garage. I want to remotly power it on with a smart plug (my MB doesn't have WOL and in my experience that never works!). I have set the state on power restore to Always in the BIOS. This only seems to work if power was lost when the server was on. In otherwords if I power off the server when it's running then it will re-boot when power is restored. If I shutdown the server then power off the smart plug it doesn't come back on again. Is this expected behavior? Seems odd and is very frustrating... My motherboard is one of these: https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-H81M-DS2V-rev-10#ov Quote Link to comment

No, but it will be a board/BIOS issue, assuming you are waiting at least a few seconds after powering off the SMART plug and powering it back on. Quote Link to comment
Aran
Another option is to shedule a 'power on' in the bios. Look for 'power on by RTC' in your bios settings. Quote Link to comment
Raptor
I'm using this to power on/off my unraid ->aliexpress.com/item/33057874976.html Quote Link to comment

It is a more expensive solution because it requires a Raspberry Pi 4 in addition to the KVM unit but it does a lot more than just power on/off the server. It also allows you to monitor startup/shutdown, enter the BIOS, etc. from any other computer on the network. Quote Link to comment
