OpenVPN Client:32 and 64-bit: Your Private and Secure Path to the Internet

Featured Replies

The latest plugin are using 2.3.11, if you try 2.3.9 i think unraid 6.1.9 is ok. But why not try the 6.2 beta? It might be some miss math with the SSL package on 6.1.9.

You are right.  Let me try the 6.2 beta.  I hesitated to go there yet, but you are making me try.  This server is not needing dual parity, but if that will make openvpn work better, I can try it.

My other server in USA is using unRaid 6.1.9 and openvpnserver.  I can't update it easily right now to 6.2.  Is that OK?

Is it just openvpn client that is affected by this problem??

No Peter I do not have that package, and I am having trouble finding it.

You are referring to:

http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=35435.msg470955#msg470955

Of course it is right there on my flash drive.  Sorry feel so stupid, but it gives the following error when installing....

plugin: installing: installpkg /boot/packages/openvpn-2.3.9-x86_64-1.txz

Warning: simplexml_load_file(): I/O warning : failed to load external entity "" in /usr/local/emhttp/plugins/dynamix.plugin.manager/scripts/plugin on line 213
plugin: xml parse error

Maybe it is just a warning, not an error....  Testing further...

No seems that starting the client gives the same error as before, and trying to revert to 2.3.11 via

installing: installpkg /boot/packages/openvpn-2.3.11-x86_64-1.txz

gives the same xml_load_file() warning message.

Use installpkg not installplg :-)

I checked again, and I was using installpkg.  I tried several times and always the same thing.

So I installed 6.2b21 on the server in China instead, and now I am connected over the VPN.  Server in the usa is running the 6.1.9.

Does the VPN connection exist only for the 2 connected computers, or can other computers on the same lan use the VPN connection?

(I have extended routing set to NO)

Hey guys,

I'm trying to connect to my OVPN and get an ip on the same subnet as my router.(which I believe is called TAP) I have selected that option in OVPN, but in my log I am seeing this:

"Thu Jun  9 07:58:06 2016 TUN/TAP device tun0 opened"

Which leads me to believe I am still connecting to 10.8.0.0.

Do I need to change the settings of the ip to that of my subnet? (192.168.7.0)?

Do I need to change something in the config file?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi there!

I'm using unraid 6.1.9.  Which log would you like to see?  Sorry still learning where all the logs are. ????

The issue is the the SSL packages on 6.1.* don't work with latest openvpn version. There is link to these 2 SSL packages In the x64 thread if you like to install these.

Sure I'll give that a shot.

If so, how do i go about uninstalling the latest version completely and replacing it with .9?  It keep reinstalling .11 :(

Better if you DL the 2 SSL packages and add these to the /boot/extra and reboot. Try that instead.

Sorry for the noob question, but do you just extract the content to that location or just throw the txz files in there as is?

Thanks!

unRAID automatically installs any txz files it finds in /boot/extra when it boots up.

Do i need to leave the files there or can they be removed once they have been ran?

  • Author

Yes, since unraid is running on ram, when you boot next time they must be there.

oh ya, duh, that makes sense.  I keep forgetting it runs in RAM.

I have another question for you.  I have Zoneminder docker setup, and I am using DuckDNS as my DDNS service.  I  want to access Zoneminder from anywhere, however when OpenVPN is running I cant get to it, but when I stop OpenVPN i am able to access it from any connection.  Is there anyways to keep my Zoneminder traffic from filtering through the OpenVPN client?

Thanks!

stupid question,

but i can't find anywhere to download the "openvpn_client.plg" file. I don't see it in your OP

Its an attachment at the bottom of the OP.  But you're also better off just installing it via CA

i was looking for the 32 bit version, but now realise my cpu is old but still 64 bit.

but does it matter that i am on unraid 5.05?

I have been using your open vpn for years and it has worked flawlessly, but for some reason it has completely disapeared from my unraid menu now, and it doesn't want to reinstall saying "bad install"

any idea why?

unRAID v5 is 32-bit and cannot run 64-bit plugins. unRAID v6 is 64-bit and cannot run 32-bit plugins.

And there are many more very good reasons to go to unRAID v6, not the least of which is most people who want to help on the forum haven't run v5 for years.
