 Template Issues

https://github.com/Skylinar/unraid_templates/issues/new

If you notice any problems in the template or see that some notes are missing, you can submit a pull request on GitHub and I’ll review and approve it as needed.

Just to clarify, I generally don’t develop the applications — I only create the templates to make them easier for regular users to set up on Unraid.

I’ll do my best to keep the templates updated whenever I can.

Why was Traffmonetizer published with an affiliate sign-up link associated with it? I get that you're the one publishing this to Community Applications, but that shouldn't entitle you to being able to use your own affiliate link to funnel people over to looking at the project.

EDIT: Likewise for Repocket.

EDIT 2: And EarnApp. It almost feels like you're trying to take advantage of other users' ignorance to make a quick buck off of your referral links.

That's a valid point, there was no bad intention behind it. I'm using internet sharing services since years and wanted to provide an opportunity to support my work of creating the templates. If you do not want to, feel free to not use the support links. I'll adjust the templates.

I think it would be best to adjust the templates because it's just a bad look to have used your referral links, especially for apps where you would directly benefit from people using that link. Not to say that your work is worthless, but it'd be a different story if it was your app and not just one for which you're creating a template.

Honestly I do not see the problem here, creating Docker templates and listing them on CA also requires effort and time. Listing a referal link where otherwise a regular link would be is an easy, non-obtrusive way for people to support that effort with zero negative consequences for them. It's immediately obvious from the link also, so I don't see how this could feel unethical or sneaky either. There's people putting up donation links, this seems like nothing in comparison.

I see 2 issues here, first of, you cant spot it (easily) in older version of unraid as the 3rd Party Warning thing didnt exist. Secondly the FTC. (Edit: as i just saw on github, in germany, those links have to be declared as such as well in a lot of cases. Now, if this case would be an exception, thats for a court to decide, but you certainly would get "Abgemahnt")

But the templates were changed so it doesnt matter anymore.

I understand that these templates may not be technically breaking any rules, but they are pretty clearly a cashgrab taking advantage of folks that don't know any better. Any 'passive income' scheme like this is certainly a scam.

If the templates are to be allowed on the CA store, then at least let us filter out / block items and vote on templates to somehow let others know the opinion of the community (without having to spend hours on the forums).

I would get it if you had some variety in your app choice, but the fact that you joined CA only a week ago and immediately published a half-dozen apps that are all related to "making passive income" feels really scammy to me.

These aren't even apps that necessarily make sense for an Unraid machine. They don't take advantage of NAS functionality, of mass storage, of a powerful GPU or CPU, nothing that the majority of people are running Unraid for.

After quietly observing the situation over the last few days, I feel that I have to say something about it and should take action.

I got the impression that people think I'm the maintainer of these passive income Docker images. That's not the case; I just made the CA templates available, and everyone was already able to install these images on their servers before. The templates just make it easier. Ultimately, everyone is responsible for what they install on their server. You can't just install something from CA without looking into it first, then complain about it and blame the CA template creator. Other templates such as Honeygain or Packetstream don't seem to be a problem for the community, even though they are exactly the same. These were created by another user, but seem to be tolerated. That was also my reason for making more available. Why not?

Yes, it was a mistake on my part to use the ref links, and I understand that this did not make a good impression, therefore I removed them quickly. But unfortunately, the feedback here and on the Reddit thread on that whole topic was anything but constructive. Just because I created templates, I am portrayed as a scammer and the integrity of Limetech is questioned. In addition to that, I am being threatened with legal action for hidden advertising... Sorry, but that is completely over the top, guys.

I can understand that the community has critical opinions on these matters, some of which are certainly entirely justified, but I cannot understand why template creators are portrayed as if they were responsible for these docker images.

As a consequence, I have removed all templates regarding passive income topic from the community applications and will consider whether to remove all of my contributed templates to avoid further legal actions on creating CA templates.

Cheers

I cant find a post that threatens you with legal action, if its refering to my post, you might have misunderstood something, all it was supposed to serve was to tell you that your butt might end up in legal trouble because of laws and regulations and youre better off to not fuck around and find out in regards to the affiliate links. Since you moved them and theyre declared as such, youre good.

For what it's worth, I think this whole thing was blown way out of proportion (as it usually happens on Reddit). Most of the posts here actually raise some fair and interesting points. Anything tied to making money comes under heavier scrutiny and can seem somewhat shady or scammy, but that's more an unavoidable perception issue than anything else. Referral links are everywhere - you'd hardly see anyone blink at a "recommend a friend and get a discount"-type offer (e.g. for server parts). In the end, it's probably just the mix of the money-making aspect and the unfortunate referral links that stirred up all the drama... whether justified or not. Good for you that removed them, I'd save myself that headache too.

I have made quite a few templates that are not in CA and have been thinking on and off if I should publish them for others to use. This makes it an easier decision. Sorry this all happened to you.

What template are you using?

The Traffmonetizer template i dont know where to put my token

  • Author

I removed the template for Traffmonetizer because of reasons mentioned before. But to answer your question:

Check the Post Arguments section where it says "start accept --token YOUR_TOKEN"

YOUR_TOKEN has to be replaced by your token.

hey can someone help me? i cant get this app to work.

Seems like you are not logged in. Have you checked the "Before Installing"? Visited the url and entered the code?

  • Author

Try to give more/detailled information, with that amount of information that you gave it can be anything.

What kind of information do you want?

i read the before you start text and did all that. i created the py file and edited my name in it and the streamers i want the script to watch. then i started the script and opend the log and it told me to login with the TV login link from twitch. i followed the link and entered the code it told me and after i authorized the scrip in twitch the log closed it selve and when i opend it again, it wanted me to authorize again...
