September 16, 200619 yr BTW, from cmd, "dir /ah" will show you for certain all hidden files, in case you ever have the problem again. Matt.
September 16, 200619 yr OK, I'm embarassed to ask this but, can someone give me some baby steps regarding exactly how to "telnet" into our unRaid boxes? I've searched online and all the telnet 'how-to' sites are old and unmaintained. I feel like a dumbass for asking, but I've never really had a need to use anything other than the management utility which I no longer can access. Very Embarassed, -PGPfan
September 16, 200619 yr PGPfan - Your nick sounds familiar. Have I seen you on the SageTV forums? No need to feel embarassed, you'll have this memorized after you do it once or twice. Here's how you can telnet into UnRAID: START -> Run -> type "cmd" (no quotes) into the text box -> hit the OK button and you'll get the DOS command prompt. Now type "telnet tower" or "telnet 192.168.1.x" (or whatever the IP of your UnRAID box is. No quotes for any of these) You should get the "Tower login:" prompt for your UnRAID box. Type "root" and you should be in. Give that a try and post back if you have any difficulties.
September 16, 200619 yr jsutter55, Yep, that's me on the Sage forums. I have a link to unRaid in my sig over there. Thanks for the walkthrough! All is working again now! -PGPfan
September 16, 200619 yr Hi all, Would just like to thank Tom for getting the Flash Disk keys back to me sooooooooooo fast! Just got my number two unRaid server up and running on Version 3.0-beta1 and it looks good! Will upgrade the number 1 unRaid server to Version 3.0-beta1 as soon as server number two drives spin down as my UPS cannot handle both servers all spun up at the same time. Regards, TCIII
September 16, 200619 yr TCIII I was wondering what brand/model UPS you're using & what happens when power fails? Does the UPS last long enough to keep the server running until power comes back?
September 16, 200619 yr Hi Tom, I am presently using an APC 1KW UPS that I purchased at Costco a while back. I suspect that it will keep the two unRaid servers up at least 1/2 hour if none of the drives are spun up. I shut both of the servers down when I went on vacation because I obviously would not be there to turn them off if the power failed. We have had Southern California Edsion shutdown the power to just several square blocks sounding our townhome for hours at a time. We have not experienced a shutdown in quite a while and there is always someone home who can shutdown the servers if we loose power. It would be nice to have the servers be able to shutdown when a power outage is detected by the UPS Regards, TCIII
September 17, 200619 yr Upgrade of my first server worked great. I think I'm going to wait to upgrade the others until the final 3.0 bits come out, just to save myself a bit of time. Without the S3 stuff, the upgrade isn't super compelling for me, although the User Shares bit looks interesting.
September 19, 200619 yr I'm using the same UPS that TCIII is using. I've had a few outages and the unRAID has made it through just fine. the drives when spun down draw VERY little power it seems. I now have two power supplies though so we'll see how it goes next time around since idle power draw will be up a bit. The only things plugged into this UPS are my unRAID power cords... Am on the first 3.x beta, no issues here.
September 19, 200619 yr Reason I asked was that I want to go get an APC ups and get it to interface with the server so a graceful shutdown can get initiated when the ups senses power loss.
