i just updated to version 7.3.0 and cannot skip/end the onboarding. On the last screen I get the error "We couldn't finish onboarding right now. Please try again." after clicking on "GO TO DASHBOARD"

When I try to close the onboarding, it will immediately pop up again so I cannot get to the dashboard.

Try rebooting in safe mode, if it still doesn't close, get the diagnostics from the CLI.

Thank you for the support. I did that but error is remaining.
i tried to create logfiles but apparently they cannot be written to the usb stick because it is read-only. Could that be the underlying issue? But before the update everything was running smoothly.

Most likely, try recreating the flash drive, backup, recreate with the tool, restore only the config folder from the backup

I have the same issue, it's basically locked me out of my server. Really annoying having to deal with this.

Thanks a lot, that helped solvong the issue, USB stick seems to be broken somehow.
But now I have the next problem. Since the new USB drive is blacklisted, I cannot activate the license. I installed the Key via URL but with no effect. Any advice on that one?
Is it possible to exchange the USB stick with an internal device? (as seen on the new onboarding scrrens)

If it's a new flash drive, it should not be blacklisted, assuming it has a unique GUID.

With 7.3 it's possible to use TPM for licensing instead of the flash drive, assuming that is available.

In any case, for licensing issues, I recommend that you contact support.

What if the flash drive is not broken and unraid has just corrupted itself?
When you reinstall unraid onto the old flash drive to repair the unraid corruption should the license still work?

In that case the license is the same, and the flash drive will not be blacklisted.

I had to hard reset my server and it booted without any issues, now its doing a parity check 🙄
I dont understand why this suddenly happened and completely locked up the GUI.

I just bought a brand new USB Stick (SanDisk Cruzer Glide 3.0) and it does not seem to have a GUID...this is extremely annoying. If you know that there are many USB Sticks with that problem, why do you stick to that procedure? This is really annoying. Is there an official list of USB sticks that work? I don't want to spend a fortune to find the right one. Unfortunately, my AI research recommended me exactly that usb stick.
I guess there is no chance to work around this issue?

Thanks again for the quick help. IT was in the unraid tool. I created the stick anyway and now switched to TPM GUID (that was the option I had). Now everything works again.

To share some feedback: It would probably be helpful for people if the tool would already inform about that option, otherwise it looks like it is not going to work.

@Kalypso FYI: I believe that creating the USB drive using the Manual method can sometimes handle the GUID correctly when the tool does not.

The SanDisk Cruzer Glide 3.0 is one of the lower quality drives you can use for Unraid boot -- cheap consumer NAND, USB 3.0 which runs hotter than USB 2.0 in an always-on server, and a known target for counterfeiting.

Your original USB drive going read-only and corrupt may not be unrelated to the drive quality.

A replacement of the same type is likely to develop the same problems.

On TPM -- if you're staying with USB boot there's no benefit to adding TPM licensing on top of it.

You've just added a dependency on your motherboard's TPM implementation without removing the USB drive.

BIOS updates that touch firmware can affect TPM state, potentially causing licensing issues down the road.

USB licensing alone is simpler and more reliable for a USB boot setup.

For a replacement drive worth trusting, search eBay for item number:326046070546 -- industrial grade, around $4, plug it into a USB 2.0 port.

There's also a Boot Devices guide in the forum's Boot Devices section that explains what to look for.

Try this one listed as MLC.

Once it's delivered, make sure to immediately verify the drive's components using ChipGenius and/or Flash Drive Information Extractor.

Both are free tools that will reveal the drive's Flash ID and NAND type.

Please share the readout here for future reference.

Bonus Workaround for U.S. eBay Listings (German VerpackG Block):

If a U.S. eBay seller won't ship to Germany due to the Packaging Act, you can bypass the block by shipping it to a friend or relative in a neighboring EU country.

Just change your primary shipping address on eBay to your friend's EU address so the system lets you buy the item.

Once they receive it, they can forward it to you in Germany via local post.

Shipping Costs:

Since international shipping from the U.S. can be expensive, you might want to buy multiple units at once.
