Seeing 8 seeds and 3 leeches although none connected to me :-( I really ought to get my ports figured out as well but my client randomizes the port on each startup - uPNP is what I use on the first NAT to get through it but 2nd is not so bright - need to bridge it. Anyway I did manage to upload over 30megs overnight and will hopefully DL more as the days go by. Oh and slow upload speeds is fine for this - it uses a little of everyone's so each little bit helps. I throttle my connection anyway - I'm only uploading 150kbps right now. <shrug>

I uploaded 11MB last night. After I got the ports figured out, iit started to seed properly.

Had my router configured incorrectly. All is well now. Just registered with linuxtracker.org.

I'll be posting some new torrents there (Firefly/mt-daapd) and reposting the unraid Server there as well.

I'll have to go through all my packages now to see what is relavant.

Question... I was going to use an initial directory of    "unRAID_Server_Packages"

Everyone OK with that?

My seed is setup in such a way as it will connect to everyone port forwarded or not. Its 100mbit so there wont be any problems.

When you conect to a torrent the tracker gives you some random ip from the peer list. So if it doesnt work instantly just wait a few mins til the tracker gets some more or the client learns some more via PEX i.e. dont assume if it doesnt work instantly its broke.

Tom can you add the .torrent file to the download page please.

My seed is setup in such a way as it will connect to everyone port forwarded or not.

How is this done? I setup my port forwarding which I believe is correct now, but I'm curious how you are set up.

Tom can you add the .torrent file to the download page please.

Should we wait until the torrent is seeded via linuxtracker.org?

Setting it up on that seed is easy as it has a public IP and no NAT.

Linux tracker has a certain legit feeling about it however TPB has a uptime thats second to none. Where the Linux tracker come in is both in terms of advertising (as users browse the repo directly looking for interesting) and the site itself might help seed. In reality though I dont think we will need more bandwidth.

I have uploaded 5 copies via torrent so far.

I put the torrent up on linuxtracker.

My torrent client will only let me seed one of these at a time..  ???

I'm seeding the torrent from The Pirate Bay now. Should we start to seed only the Linux Tracker one?

I guess we should decide which one we want to seed.

You only need one.

The linuxtracker will reference thepiratebay.

No worries.

The announce or tracker in the .torrent is still using the pirate bay.

Let's keep it as is for this release. When the next one comes out we'll set the url for linux tracker and seed from there.

I got my account ready now. I'll post some other packages later today.

In the meantime there is still an outstanding question in regards to using an initial directory or not.

Please advise guys.

Guess I'm braindead today. I downloaded the torrent from Linux Tracker & didn't even look at it. I should have noticed that it pointed to The Pirate Bay. I know better  :-\

Not a big deal, the idea is exposure. At least it's there for other Linux users to see.

Forgot to un-limit the amount of copies rTorrent would up. Removed that cap and almost immediately uploaded another 4 copies.

Seeing 13 seeds up from 12 a half hour ago and am uploading to someone at over 129kbps right now. Over 65megs uploaded so far, IMO this is working just fine off of TPB. I see no downside to them getting some legitimate software onboard and I doubt they mind at all. This user is coming in from France it seem - kewl!

Someone from Poland was pulling from me too. I've uploaded 64MB in different pieces throughout the day.

Maybe we should have Tom include the ctorrent client in the distribution for others.

I was going to suggest having him add curl or wget also.

these are simple enough and wouldn't raise more "support" issues for him - so I am all in

Some of these guys probably think they're dl'g a pirated version  ;D

hehehe probably

weebo rename it to "unRAID Server 4.3.2 FULL WORKING!!!" (which after all is correct) and see how stats will start go up and up :D

Heh, I wondered that myself actually ;D It might be interesting to also seed a Demo version of the software if that's a different download just to up the exposure of the software. <shrug> I'm all for sharing the next release this way too in order to take some burden off Tom's server and bandwidth.

That's not a bad idea for us who know how to use torrents.

Seeding  ;D

?

the "demo" (in fact the full version) is the same download, just doesn't include a key (which after all is personalized and sent to your email)

speaking of the free version, maybe it's the time for Tom to allow for user shares in it... the 3 disk limitation and no-cache are enough - but without user shares, the free version is really a "different" program... so doesn't Tom want people to know what unRAID is about?

The basic version has user shares, It does not have user level security enabled.

Based on the amount of transfers Ive seen (20 from my seed) and the size of the torrent I really dont think torrent is worth it. I was working on the assumption there would be more demand but even if everyone has uploaded what i have (which is unlikely due to most connections not being 100mbit) the total transfer must be less 15GB. Sure lets add it if needed but for this amount of traffic a a couple of redundant mirrors will absolutely suffice.

This opens up the possibility of unRAID upgrading itself via HTTP which IMO would be far more useful.

Sorry to put the cat among the pidgeons again.

I've done about 5 transfers but not being directly accessible I see fewer connections. Considering how late in the game the links were put up etc. and that this wasn't a major release I still think it's not too bad. <shrug> Certainly doesn't hurt and wasn't much effort expended.
