Upgrade from 4.7 to 5.0rc Not PRO anymore _ SOLVED

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

I followed the instructions made backups etc and did the upgrade. Server comes up. It does not seem to recognize my Pro license - it is coming up as a Basic. My Pro.key is in the config directory.

Thanks in advance.

I read the wiki on upgrading here:

http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/Migrating_from_unRAID_4.7_to_unRAID_5.0

read the release notes:

http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/UnRAID_Server_Version_5.0-beta_Release_Notes

Are you using the same flash drive?    The key is tied to the specific flash drive that you're using.

Yes using the same flash drive.

Do you still have the email with the attachment?

I can't find exactly the release notes in question but there was a change to the way that registration keys are found from the filesystem on the USB key. I think it stops looking for additional key files after it finds the first one and it also has a slightly stricter pattern it searches on.

In the meantime, read through the release notes and first post in each of the release announcement threads.

the Pro.key file is in the config directory - AND I have put it in the root directory now. No luck.

Reverted back to 4.7 and all is well. Shall keep checking back to see if anyone has seen this problem.

My key is many many many years old - maybe something changed along the way.

Wanted to take a quick moment.

I gotta say a big thank you to the inventor/creator and to all you folks who support me when I need help.

I have been using UNRAID now for I think 6 years or so, have gone through 2 motherboards/cpu's countless hard drives (starting with 200Gig PATA drives upgraded to 500Gig drives and now shifting to 2Tb SATA drives) running 12 drives with about 10Tb online now - such a reliable solution.

Can't wait to get some of the new functionality like support for TimeMachine etc with version 5.

Thanks guys.

perhaps the GUID was black-listed.  Check with lime-tech to verify.  Make sure there are no other files in the config folder OR on the root of the flash drive with the letters "key" in their name or as a suffix other than your "pro.key" file.

I seem to recall reading about someone else who had a similar problem.  It turned out that unRAID loads the first file it finds with .key extension.  It did not check to see what the filename was.

I would suggest checking your flash drive using the search function in windows and see if you have other files with a .key extension.

Are you using a Mac to access the flash drive by any chance?

As they mentioned, it uses the first .key it finds.  For me, it found one of the "Apple Double" hidden files first.  It has the same extension, but has a "." prefix so that it's hidden.  It just contains metadata, not the key itself.  Once I deleted the double (in Linux or Windows), the license was loaded properly.
