April 9, 201412 yr I just rebooted unraid and it is off the network. I cant access it via web or explorer. I tried //Tower........nada Tried 192.168.1.25......nada I have 5.05 installed On the monitor connected directly to it....it reads: cat: /etc/cache_dirs.conf: No such file or directory Welcome to Linux 3.9.11p-unRAID (tty1) Tower login: What do I do? Please I need help
April 9, 201412 yr Author I get Ping statistics for 192.168.1.25 Packets: Sent =4, Received =4, lost=0
April 9, 201412 yr ok so network connectivity is good. Are you attempting to access the server from a windows machine? If so, open internet explorer and try accessing the shares that way. You would put the following into the address bar: \\192.168.1.25 If that doesn't work (heck even if it does), I think some of the smart guys out here will want a syslog to look at.
April 9, 201412 yr Author That does not work. Attached is a copy of the syslog....the last one from the logs folder. Please I really need help with this. syslog-20140409-101757.txt
April 9, 201412 yr Author I have a backup of my flash drive from four days ago. I deleted the flash drive and copied the backed up file to it. Still no luck. Tower is invisible to everyone in the house.
April 9, 201412 yr Can you copy and paste what is in your network.cfg from your flashdrive? flash/config/network.cfg
April 9, 201412 yr Author This is what I have in network.cfg # Generated settings: USE_DHCP=no IPADDR=192.168.1.25 NETMASK=255.255.255.0 GATEWAY=192.168.1.1 DHCP_KEEPRESOLV=no DNS_SERVER1=75.75.75.75 DNS_SERVER2=75.75.76.76 DNS_SERVER3= then in windows run>cmd>ipconfig I have: Default Gateway 192.168.1.1 SUbnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
April 9, 201412 yr So its a problem with every device in the house... In your ROUTER, do you have 192.168.1.25 configured as a STATIC address? Is it possible you have TWO devices on your lan with the same address? In other words, have you set up your router so that 192.168.1.25 is STATIC and not used by the DHCP address pool? Can you set an address range of fixed static addresses in your router...for example, 192.168.1.200-255 ? And then assign one of THOSE to unRAID? Another idea is try rebooting everything...powerdown for one minute even the ethernet switches then power back up. (who knew? that actually worked in another instance)
April 10, 201412 yr Author The thing is that I checked and there was only one device in the network with 192.168.1.25. I did run>cmd>ping -a 192.168.1.25 and it found it. When I turn unraid off, I ping again and says host unreachable. I changed the IP in the network.cfg to 192.168.1.26......same result. ping will find .26 and .25 is unreachable. What else can I do? Edit: Besides, I can telnet from my laptop to the tower.. I did ls -l /dev/sd[a-z] and it sees all my hardrives
April 10, 201412 yr It really does not seem to be a network issue but an application issue of some sort. Basic network services SEEM to be working (i.e. he can ping the device and when he changes the IP address the old IP can no longer be pinged but the new one can). IP address and net masks look good on both devices. But file sharing and the web server appear to NOT be working. At least thats how it looks to me. I noticed dynamix in the syslog. Maybe try disabling all plugins and rebooting? I think we need one of the gurus to weigh in on this.
April 10, 201412 yr Author Yes, but it seems that all the gurus are busy today. I have no luck... last time I had trouble I had to figure out myself. I wish I was more knowledgeable in linux....but I am not. I had already renamed all .plg extensions but nothing happens. I powered down everything, modem, switch....back on....nothing. What bothers me is that I loaded a backup from 4 days ago....the system was working fine, and still I cannot see it. I am desperate. I appreciate your help.
April 10, 201412 yr Try booting unRAID in SAFE MODE. (shut down, restart, and from the console, on the crude b&w startup screen, it'll offer 'Regular', 'Safe Mode' and "Memtest". Safe mode starts unRAID with NO plugins.... [EDIT] MORE: I'm sorry, I just found time to go back and read your syslog more closely. I think this is NOT a web interface problem at heart. USE SAFE MODE 'til we get these fundamental errors sorted. Start up in SAFE MODE and post THAT syslog. Also, there's something wrong with disk 5,6, and 7. April 10, 201412 yr Author OK, I shut down, Turned on and only see Unraid OS and Memtest. I do not see Safe Mode. What I also did is use a usb stick that I was using up until 4 months ago. Guess what....it works with that one. The problem is that now I have Plus and I need to use the "faulty" usb stick because I added one more Hard Drive. Now my question....how do I fix the mess without making a bigger mess???
April 10, 201412 yr Author I do not have disk 5,6,7. I have Cache+Parity+3HD Try booting unRAID in SAFE MODE. April 10, 201412 yr Apr 9 10:15:27 Tower kernel: FAT-fs (sda1): Volume was not properly unmounted. Some data may be corrupt. Please run fsck. Put your flash in your PC and run checkdisk on it.
April 10, 201412 yr Author I also realized that unraid started a parity check....I stopped it but the discs were all messed up. :-[ chkdsk shows no problems
April 10, 201412 yr Author Little recap: Tower will start but will not show via web browser or explorer after reboot. Loaded back up of flash drive from 4 days ago into flash….same result. Plugged a flash drive that I was using over 4 months ago…the array showed up. Disks were all messed up since I now have more disks….. and when I realized unraid had started a parity check. I stopped it right away. The new (1 month old) 4tb parity drive was not even displayed….it was not touched by the parity check. Then after backing up the faulty flash drive, I deleted everything from it. Copied the contents of the 4 months old into the faulty, now blank flash drive. I copied the config folder from the faulty USB to the new "hybrid"USB and it gave me the same error. Therefore From the backed up config folder of the faulty USB I kept : Shares(folder) disk.cfg Plus.key Super.dat Everything else belongs to the old USB. Now my parity disk shows blank (see picture) Disk 1 unformatted. How do I proceed? NEw syslog attached syslog_04_10_2014-12_30.txt
April 10, 201412 yr That syslog is not much use - you have only included the last few lines. The complete file should be provided (zip if necessary to keep size down). The fact a drive shows as unformatted suggests unRAID was unable to mount it for some reason, The full log might give a clue as to why.
April 10, 201412 yr If you're telneting or at the console, SELECT ALL of the syslog. see here: http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/Troubleshooting#Capturing_your_syslog
April 10, 201412 yr Author Here i a copy of the full syslog. Thank you guys for your time. syslog04102014-0727.txt
April 10, 201412 yr What do you mean "parity disk shows blank"? If you are referring to the Used and Free columns that is normal. Those are meaningless for the parity drive. Could it be that the parity check that you cancelled wrote to disk1 thinking it was parity? A drive will show as unformatted if unRAID cannot mount the reiser filesystem on the drive. You say you backed up the faulty flash drive. Are there any log files in that backup that might include the period when the "disks were all messed up"? In particular we would be looking for a line like this: Apr 10 07:26:19 Tower kernel: md: import disk0: [8,64] (sde) WDC_WD40EFRX-68WT0N0_WD-WCC4E0553678 size: 3907018532 This shows that your parity drive is what we see in the screenshot. What I am wondering is whether it ever thought the drive with serial # ST3000DM001-9YN166_S1F0PQ9S was disk0. You might also consider removing all addons though I don't think they are really to blame here. You will probably have to run reiserfsck on disk 1 to get it back but I have no experience with that.
