54% done, no errors so far, 5hrs to go, so i think this time will be a charm.

gotta get on the road to drive down to the south of Germany now...back online later tonight or tomorrow.

btw, what exactly does the "Upgrade WebGUI" utility do, in the stock WebGUI?

Sounds good.  I don't recall what the "Upgrade WebGUI" button does -- I recall some discussion of issues with this when v5 was first released, so I've simply stayed away from it.  If I recall correctly, Tom was going to put enhancements to the Web GUI on the GitHub site, and automate the download/install of new changes.    But that all got sidetracked when he decided to standardize on Dynamix as the GUI starting with v6, so I believe further changes to the WebGUI were sidelined.  As I noted above, I tried an early version of Dynamix, but had several issues, so I simply reverted to the standard GUI plus UnMenu ... and simply haven't seen any reason to do anything more complex.  My systems have all been rock-solid stable, so I see no reason to do anything differently ... my uptime on 2 of them was over 345 days when they were last reboot ... due to a power failure that caused their UPS's to shut them down.

k, i'll stay away from it, and will probably go to v6 when the time has come.

time to hit the road, thanks!!!

Have been reading this topic with interest ...

One challenge in unRAID v5 is that every HTTP request to emhttp regardless of what is being asked (web server) causes background disk activity. The way this is 'circumvented' in Dynamix v5 is to change the display setting "Page Refresh" and disable it completely which makes it work exactly the same as the stock GUI or as an intermediate approach, only disable page refresh while a parity operation is on going.

The integration of Dynamix in unRAID v6 is a completely different story. Under the hood a lot needed to be changed and while doing so, some new requirements came in too.

All development focus is now on v6, don't expect much anymore on v5.

As I had assumed -- and coming from the "horse's mouth" (i.e. the developer of Dynamix) that's clearly VERY reliable information  :)

i already believed it when you said it, gary, but yes, now that bonienl has confirmed it, it's boni-fied :)

thanks all, for clarifying...frankly, i may make the move to the v6 beta, just to be able to use the new Dynamix implementation and maybe get my feet wet with Dockers (maybe even a VM), but for the moment i am pleased to have arrived in Southern Germany to this:

Great !!    Looks like your long saga is finally over  :)

Now you need to build a little mini-ITX system with 5 of the new 8TB Seagate "Archive" drives for your backups  :)    That would give you 32TB of protected storage for your backups ... enough to backup your entire array.

... of course you need to do a bit of work first, as that would cost ~ $1500 or so  :)

Where in southern Germany are you?    We used to spend a few days at a B&B just outside of Berchtesgaden for a few days every year when we lived in Europe in the late 80's ... found it the first year and just loved the proprietor and the area, so we went back every summer.    Bavaria is a really neat area.

i'll start up saving now, gary.

yes, Berchtesgaden is but 20mins away from where i grew up (Traunstein, near the Chiemsee)...spectacular part of the world here, indeed...i spent New Year's at a friend's estate near Berchtesgaden, which he purchased 8 to 10 years ago when he got married and his wife got pregnant (they just had their a 3rd child), up the mountain a bit, and when i asked him about the spectacular grassy hills in front of his building, he told me that those were the very ones that were used for the spinning and dancing scenes in The Sound of Music, right in front of the face of the Wilder Kaiser, which formed the backdrop for those iconic scenes...how cool is that?!

yeah, Bavaria, especially the footalps, where i grew up, are one of the most beautiful areas on this great planet...and i've seen a lot.
