Question for those using ESXi. I understand the free version only support 8 vCPUs.  If I am running a dual processor configuration, with 8 cores and 16 threads each, for a total of 32 threads and 16 cores... can I utilize all of these in one VM on the free edition?

Can`t,   setup 16 cores vm ok, but can`t start it.

Just wanted to share that PLOP is not needed to boot to newer versions of UNRAID that are being virtualized. UNRAID officially supports booting from U/EFI based OpROM. I am currently booting to an UNR

  • Hey @ryanhaver, i would like a complete guide very much :) i am not new to ESX but i am new when it comes to unraid. Thanks in advance!

This thread seems quite dead but still you never know, I might get a reply: I'm wondering whether anyone has succeeded in switching to the new internal boot with vSphere? I tried switching over by presenting an additional vDisk to Unraid and pointing it to that as boot device. From the Unraid side, it completed the migration to internal boot successfully it reports, but it's not booting I'm afraid, so I had to switch back to USB passthrough. It just complains that no boot device has been found. I did go into the VM BIOS and disabled USB boot plus left HDD boot as the only enabled boot method but to no avail

I'll keep trying things and report back if I find anything

P.S: Yes, I know I should move away from vSphere and towards, for instance, Proxmox. However, I have five nodes with three of them in a three-node cluster with vSAN enabled and another one in a two-node cluster. This includes a virtualized firewall. Migrating that is no easy task, especially because I have about 30 VM's running
