FrozenGamer
FYI, in case any one is interested. I decided to order 4 from Amazon. - I also get 5% back from Amazon.com store card. (which was an offer to upgrade from my amazon credit card a few weeks ago.) http://slickdeals.net/f/7936309-5tb-toshiba-7200rpm-3-5-internal-hard-drive-for-144-99-with-free-shipping-at-amazon-and-b-h?#comments Any thoughts? SSD
Word is that Toshiba drives are using Hitachi technology, and with Hitachi (HGST) being the most reliable drives on the market, that is a good thing. I have no personal experience but at $29/T, it seems worth a try. I am seriously considering buying a pair, as finding drives under $30 / T is not easy these days. B&H is tax free but Amazon is not, plus I'd rather support the price leader. I have been watching prices on these for a while at Amazon and they were down to $139 at Amazon a month or six weeks ago. But the price increased and increased up to $179, then came down to $149 a week or so ago, and then back to $159. The price would have marched higher. I have no doubt that the reason the price went down to $145 is that their systems noticed a competitor selling at that price and they matched it. So if it wasn't for B&H, this deal would not be available. We the consumers have to reward companies trying to drive prices down not the one that dips the price only when pushed by the competition, only to raise the price when they can. If you go with this deal I strongly encourage using B&H. Here is the link. Deal expires 6/27. Link to comment
FrozenGamer
Amazon raised their price. Looks like you can still get it on B&H. A little tempted to put 2 in my gaming box for the 3500 steam games i have since its 7200 and as far as i know the 7200 doesn't help with slower drives in unraid box. Link to comment
Chugiak
Under $30/TB is a rarity, especially at 5 TB and up. Here's the direct link: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1087201-REG/toshiba_ph3500u_1i72_5tb_3_5_desktop_sata.html EDIT: Looks like they are out of stock, but you can order at this price Link to comment

ysss
Does anyone know the power consumption of these drives? idle? read/write? I read somewhere it maxes at 11w, idles at 6w. The model number should be md04aca500 for the 5tb version. (400 and 600 for 4tb and 6tb). I'm currently using it for my parity and 2 data drives. No complaints. Link to comment
FrozenGamer
In for 4 more today as i feel good putting a drive in that is less likely to fail, or at least one that i feel is less likely to fail. Starting preclears on the original 4. Link to comment
ichbinpete
Just popped two in to my new UnRaid build. Preclear is taking forever, but they're running pretty fast 33-36 deg C +100MB/S on the reads, 80MB/S on the zeroing so far. older SATAII controller because I used my old Core i7 920 build Link to comment
