January 9, 201610 yr All, I'm hitting a problem rather frequently now that I'm having trouble diagnosing. After some period of time, the server becomes unresponsive through the web, and through file explorer over SMB - as if the server had crashed. However, I maintain full access through putty / SSH. Most commands work through SSH, but unfortunately the system won't respond to a "shutdown -r now" command - it just returns the command prompt... Then I have to go and manually reboot the server (hold the button for 5 seconds) which obviously isn't my favorite way to go. Typically, I notice because one of my file shares is not accessible. I then login to the web interface, and can sometimes do some limited work, but ultimately it will lock me out. This seems to be happening without my access from Windows, because my PVR (which uses the unRAID array for storage) and my HTPC (kodi) will stop working once the SMB shares on the array stop working (and that's been our leading indicator on several occasions - same symptoms otherwise). I took a quick look at the tail of the syslog (the whole thing is included), and I don't see anything strange. The "plugin update" that is spawned on Jan 9 08:50:25 is the first thing I did after realizing I couldn't access the shares, and had limited access to the web client. About a minute later (navigating the web gui), it becomes unresponsive, and so the next entry in the log is me logging in via putty to see what's up... Thanks for taking a look! syslog-2016-01-09-freeze-sanitized.txt
January 9, 201610 yr Author Saw another thread where diagnostics are requested. If I see the issue again, I will run it from the command line. For now, I've posted the diagnostics here after the reboot, with the system running. (I know, won't be as helpful, but it does have my config and stuff like that...) whitenas-diagnostics-20160109-0916.zip
January 14, 201610 yr Author Issue persists. Here's a diagnostics file, using the GUI, after the shared drives are not accessible, but before the web GUI becomes unresponsive. (After I collected this file, I clicked on Main, which loaded, then Dashboard - the Dashboard never loaded...) whitenas-diagnostics-20160114-0325.zip
January 14, 201610 yr Author Went physically down to the server, and plugged in a monitor. There was nothing specific that looked alarming. (It was all normal - I expect that it can't mount the machine names yoga, as it's a laptop and wasn't powered on...) I then pushed the reboot button on the server, to allow the shutdown script to run. It hung on the "killing PIDs" step that you see below. I gave it several minutes to respond, and it did not. Help! I have nothing else to try, and rebooting every 3-4 days is quickly getting on the nerves of wifey.
January 14, 201610 yr Community Expert i'm having the exact same problem....wish i could offer advice but at least i can say its not just you! really hoping the next unraid update solves it.
January 14, 201610 yr Community Expert I don't use crash plan. Only Sab sick and plex edit: oops sorry question prob not meant for me!

A mount to a unknown device is attempted and it tries to start unmenu which seemingly is not present. Your go file needs some cleanup, or alternatively start with a 'virgin' go file.
January 14, 201610 yr If you convert your Reiser disks to XFS this problem will most likely go away. Many here have had the same Phantom issue. Server Load increases until everything becomes unavailable. Can't do anything until you do a Hard Reset Parity check comes out fine...
January 14, 201610 yr Have you tried starting/running it selecting the "Run with No plugins" from the boot menu? I've done it before in the past and realized I had things hanging or starting up that ate up resources.

A mount to a unknown device is attempted and it tries to start unmenu which seemingly is not present. Your go file needs some cleanup, or alternatively start with a 'virgin' go file. Will do. Is there a specific line from the go file to eliminate unmenu? Does it crash if you disable CrashPlan? Will try. and let you know. If you convert your Reiser disks to XFS this problem will most likely go away. Many here have had the same Phantom issue. Server Load increases until everything becomes unavailable. Can't do anything until you do a Hard Reset Parity check comes out fine... Ugh. XFS? What's the right process to move files around to allow this to occur? At the moment, I'm not even sure I have enough disk space... Have you tried starting/running it selecting the "Run with No plugins" from the boot menu? I've done it before in the past and realized I had things hanging or starting up that ate up resources. I experienced this issue without any plugins enabled. In fact, I went and got the shutdown plugin because I was tired of the hard resets, and wanted another option. Also, I've upgraded to 6.1.7. Will advise if it happens again to me... Bummer that there's not something definitive.
January 16, 201610 yr I would examine all your disks, I had a drive go, but it wasn't obvious at first and it caused random freezing and hiccups on my system, fortunately after a few reboots I got warnings about the drive and quickly replaced it. Run SMART tests on your drives if you suspect one might be on its way out.
