April 22, 200719 yr I would like to request that uShare be added for streaming media files over UPnP. Thanks
April 23, 200719 yr Author The reason that I had asked for uShare is that it is free and open source so adding it to unRAID shouldn't be overly difficult.
April 25, 200719 yr Author I compiled uShare and made it into an external package, its working well so far.
January 1, 200818 yr May I add a request for UPnP also? I don't really care whether it's uShare, TwonkyVision, or anything else, but I'm not Linux-savvy enough to compile it myself. DirecTV's new DVR's (model HR20 and 21) can act as UPnP clients. They say they can interact with Intel ViiV software but fact is, any UPnP server software will work, even WMP11. However, I can't seem to get any UPnP software on a Windows PC to share folders on the UnRaid PC. So I'd love to have UPnP functionality on the UnRaid server itself. Then I'd have instant HTPC's in every room that already has a DirecTV DVR.
January 1, 200818 yr Adding another vote for built in uPnP. Anyone know if there is a slackware uShare package? That might do
August 15, 201015 yr I would like to bring this back from the dead because I have been pulling my hair out trying to stream files to my Xbox 360. I have even tried using my Windows XP as an intermediary, but I can not stream files from Unraid to Xbox 360. I know some people use transcoding, but I am looking for a straight file streamer. Unless I am missing something, there is still no solution for streaming files to Xbox/PS3 without transcoding. This is what I found that led me to bump this: http://liamm.com/tech/how-toxbox-360-media-server-in-linux Given all the UPnP device coming (DLNA), ushare seems like a good idea for Unraid.
August 16, 201015 yr Have you not tried PS3MediaServer? From what I recall, it won't transcode unless its absolutely needed.
August 16, 201015 yr I came across this site for compiling uShare for the xbox360. http://ushare.geexbox.org/ . Guess I'll have to fire up a linux box and compile the executable from the binaries from that site. If anyone else has a go at this, please let us know how you make out.
August 16, 201015 yr I think a UPnP server would be nice as well. I don't personally need it at this current moment, but it would give the unRAID server some more flexibility to those that would/could use it.
August 16, 201015 yr +1 for a UPnP server on unRAID. @adelias - mind providing your compiled package?
August 17, 201015 yr Have you not tried PS3MediaServer? From what I recall, it won't transcode unless its absolutely needed. I tried PS3MS. It streams and transcodes video fairly well. However, it fails on Pictures (approximately half of my pictures do not appear) and Music (the directory structure is incorrect and the files do not appear). Note that I tried PS3MS on the Unraid server and PS3MS on WinXP. In both cases, the above problems appeared, suggesting to me that the PS3MS software and XBox are currently incompatible, rather than an Unraid/Linux configuration problem. If only Video is desired, PS3MS is excellent. Otherwise, I would be curious to try ushare.

From the above link: By lack of spare time, motivation and interest, uShare development is currently discontinued (this may change though). Don't expect release anytime soon :-( Rats - I guess we can't expect LimeTech to support a dead product.
December 31, 201015 yr I'd still love some kind of DLNA server software on unRAID. Kind of excited to upgrade my CPU and install AirVideo as well. I went away on vacation and it was annoying to have to leave my unRAID server as well as a connected PC on to access my media.
