joelrfernandes
Hello all, Because of this issue, I need to replace a valid drive of 4TB with another drive of 5TB. How should I proceed in order to keep the content? TIA Link to comment

joelrfernandes
I was thinking something like: 1. turn off the array 2. start it in maintenance mode 3. mount the new drive and copy all content from the old drive to the new one 4. unassigned the old drive from the array and take it out 5. reboot 6. assign the new drive to the array 7. start array now, I'm not even sure if steps 6 and 7 would work since it's a completely different drive and unraid would probably try to rebuild it ... I'm not sure if I trust the parity at this point, since I've been having all those issues where I constantly have to repair the drive. what would you recommend to do? Link to comment
JorgeB
OK, now I get it, I would do it like this: -do a standard replacement of the 4tb with the new 5tb -when it finishes rebuilding format the new disk (if something goes wrong during the rebuild you can still use the old disk, as long as data on data disk is unchanged) -mount the old disk with the UD plugin and copy the data to the new formatted disk. mrbilky
Just throwing it out there I see your signature shows a 4TB parity drive you did update that to a 5TB or higher? Link to comment
joelrfernandes
Thank you johnnie.black. mrbilky, yes, parity used to be 4tb and was replaced recently to a 5tb drive. In fact, the 4tb drive that I want to replace with the new 5tb is the old parity drive. And yes, I did properly pre-cleared both drives. Link to comment

trurl
Just make sure you follow the wiki to do the standard replacement johnnie referred to. The steps you were originally thinking about using are definitely wrong. If you have any more questions about how to proceed, be sure to ask. Link to comment
