pererikk
Hello! I recently replaced a drive that had some smart errors, and i wanted to be pro-active and change the drive before it goes completely bad. The parity sync starts okay with read and writes in the 162 MB/s range, then after appox. 12-15 hours, the speed goes down to 7-8 MB/s. Why is it slowing down so much..?? I have tried looking at the log files but, i don't know what to look for ? I've read some other posts about this problem, but i dont think i have the same sata-card that is causing the slow down problem. Ive attached a log file... trurl
What kind of SMART errors was the disk giving? Is that your current diagnostics? Looks like yesterday. Disk4 is invalid so I think the rebuild must not have completed yet. Is that what you meant by parity sync? Link to comment

It is now in the process of doing a rebuild/sync....but at the current speed of 7 MB/s.... I have no problem with this.....but wondering why it has now become so slow....in the beginning of the rebuild/sync the speed was appox. 160-165 Mb/s I now have 2 days before its completely rebuilt.... JorgeB
There's a single ATA error on the log: Mar 11 21:04:04 Tower kernel: ata18.00: exception Emask 0x1 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x0 Mar 11 21:04:04 Tower kernel: ata18.00: irq_stat 0x40000001 It doesn't look very serious, but I wonder if the controller stopped using the IRQ, that would make it extremely slow, the 7MB/s would make sense. I suggest canceling the rebuild, restarting the server and the rebuild, it should start at normal speed, then keep an eye on the log, if the error repeats try to see if it coincides with the slowdown. If you just noticed these after upgrading unRAID they may even be old since it didn't report them before. The usual advice is to just acknowledge them and you will get notified if they increase, at which time you can investigate possible connection issues again. This is all explained here, see the section on Solutions to Common Problems: https://lime-technology.com/forums/topic/66327-unraid-os-version-641-stable-release-update-notes/ Link to comment

I cancelled the rebuild, restarted the server. Restarted the parity sync/rebuild again It started fine and after a while i slowed down...... And i found the following in the logs. Mar 12 19:09:00 Tower kernel: ata17.00: exception Emask 0x1 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x0 Mar 12 19:09:00 Tower kernel: ata17.00: irq_stat 0x40000001 So i am guessing this is what is causing the slowdown. I have checked asus webpage for my motherboard and it uses the Marvell Marvell® PCIe 9128 SATA 6Gb/s controller with HyperDuo function* I also checked what expansion card i was using for my other drives and i found out it is running on a Marvell Chip aswell.......... Any suggestion on how to fix this, or do i have to cash up and buy a new/better controller io-card ? Link to comment
