Historical Devices on Main Screen - safe to remove ?

Featured Replies

History :

I had a disk in the array with 67 read errors.

I had a spare new 4TB in unassigned devices - precleared it (22 hours).

stopped array, removed the bad disk in array, added the precleared disk from unassigned devices, started array

Array built and all fine

I now have the original array disk with read errors in unassigned devices

I not have a new entry in Historical Devices for the original new unassigned device disk

questions

- can I just click 'remove' next to that horizontal disk ?

- would a new pre-clear on the original read error disk give me confidence to re-use it, or should I just use it as an unassigned backups disk (not the only backup) ?

Yes, you can.

I have no confidence in pre-clear any more as neither the script not the plugin works reliably. I would look at the SMART report and run an extended SMART self-test instead.

Thanks for that - removed fine.

I can see where I do an extended smart test on the unassigned disk anywhere though.....

When I click mount, it does not mount......

On the Dashboard page, in the Statistics section, find which column refers to the disk in question. It will be towards the right hand side. Click the icon in the SMART Status row and choose Attributes from the menu.

jeez.  Right in front of me - I was looking in the unassigned devic es area - What a knob!

Running it now.

Maybe an issue with it is stopping me mounting it ?

ok - took all day but that extended smart test said no issues found......

I still cant seem to mount the disk, which I think I need to do to format it for use as an unassigned device.

Do you have destructive mode enabled in UD settings?

Nope - will that fix the mount ?

It will allow you to format the disk.

Cool.

Turned it on.

Refreshed UD list.

Sorry - I cant see when I can format the disk.....

I sorted it - had to delete the partition first (just read the instructions).

Thanks for the assist.,
