starbetrayer
Hello guys, I am pretty new to Unraid and I do not understand how the mover works. I just put two hard drives for cache. Could someone explain to me what are the requirements for the mover to work ? I currently only have enabled disk shares and not user shares. Do I need to enable user shares for the mover to work ? I would like to use the mover and have it then copied the files to a particular disk. Is this possible ? Quote Link to comment
Squid
User shares (and copying the file(s) to the user share) are a requirement for mover / the cache drive to operate as a cache drive. You can always arrange your particular shares so that they are confined to a particular drive. Quote Link to comment

So from where I am now, it is requiring an additional folder in the disk named disk1, disk2, etc ? Would it be the way you would do it ? Do you have any advices ? Quote Link to comment

What are the typical write speeds obtained ? Quote Link to comment

Mover and caching have no meaning when you are working directly with the disks. I actually recommend that you disable disk shares and only enable user shares. You create user shares in the webUI and each user share has a number of settings you can make to control whether and how they cache, which disks they use, and other things. There is help in the webUI that can probably answer some of your questions. Also, this user share overview from the wiki might give you a good start and allow you to ask better questions: https://wiki.unraid.net/UnRAID_6/Overview#User_Shares Quote Link to comment

I will do that, and report back. I will probably have more questions as I go through. Quote Link to comment
