December 15, 201015 yr I just got my unraid server online, ready to go! I have 4 WD externals (3 Mybook essentials and 1 Mybook Elite). I would like to integrate these into my server. I plan on moving all the info from one drive onto the server, then opening up the external, removing the drive and putting in the server (with a wipe and parity check of course). Rinse and repeat for the rest. Has anybody done this with WD externals? What drive do they have inside? Thanks!

I have done it with a couple of drives I have gotten over the years.
December 15, 201015 yr They should be standard drives. If they are 1.5T or 2T then good bet they are some model of Green drive. Peter
December 15, 201015 yr I absorbed two Mybooks into my machine. They where both Green WD 500GB. I think I might of replaced one so far, but it was due to upgrading not drive problems.
December 16, 201015 yr Author Success! Copied everything over and ripped the first one apart. Ended up being a WD20EADS drive inside.
December 16, 201015 yr I found I got a better deal by selling my externals on ebay and buying new 2TB hdd's
December 18, 201015 yr I found I got a better deal by selling my externals on ebay and buying new 2TB hdd's thats what i was gonna suggest. you probably could have sold them and ended up with enough for a extra drive
December 18, 201015 yr Author I did think about that. Unfortunetly, I am stationed in Japan and the shipping is way to much to really cut a decent profit.
