Hi there,

my name is Chris and i have just built my first server.

Hardware:

- Asrock x470D4U2-2T (https://www.asrockrack.com/general/productdetail.asp?Model=X470D4U2-2T#Specifications)

- AMD Ryzen 5 2500

- Samsung M391A2K43BB1-CTD (1x, 16GB, DDR4-2666, DIMM 288)

- 2x WD Red (8TB, 3.5") for data

- 1x WD Red (12TB, 3.5") parity drive

- 1x WD Black (256GB, M.2 2280) for cache

- Intel Raid Controller RS3WC080 12Gb/s SAS 6Gb/s SATA 8 internal ports MD2 (https://ark.intel.com/content/www/de/de/ark/products/77345/intel-raid-controller-rs3wc080.html)

- Case: SilverStone CS381 (https://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=861&area=en)

Here is the problem - unraid doesn't show me the drives.

Drives are recognized via the RaidController Bios.

The drives are in 2 Drive cages, connected via Mini SAS to the Raid Controller (2 Slots on the Controller to 1 each cage)

I have flashed it to the newest Firmware, still no luck.

I searched through the unraid wiki, but i couldn't find my chip (SAS3008).

Do you guys have any idea, which firmware is needed for that controller?

Thank you in advance and take care!

Chris

I'm not the controller expert around here, but I couldn't find any reference to IT (initiator target) mode firmware, so my best guess is there isn't any available. It's possible you may be able to force it to work by assigning each disk to an individual RAID0 volume in the card's BIOS, but you would likely be losing much of the ability of Unraid to manage the disks and monitor their health.

It would be much better to replace it with a LSI based plain HBA instead of a RAID card. RAID cards are not recommended with Unraid.

Best bet would be to get a different one, 9300-8i is a good option, and IT mode only.

Okay quick update: i could flash it after connecting the pins of the jumper on the end of the card (vertical side). After that i could access into the sasflash tool and it worked perfectly fine. I can see every drive now. I have realized, that it was a waste of money, cause i would have been able to go with the LSI 9300-8i card (100$ cheaper). But yeah, you never stop learning ;) take care guys!
