  1. Hey everyone, Trying very unsuccessfully to get Unraid SMB to work with a Denon HEOS amp. Realized SMB 1 has been long discontinued and, since the app doesn't support SMB 2, I'm stuck looking at alternatives. Currently, I have multiple paths with music stored in them. That is, I have a folder structure that looks something like this: AUDIO LOSSLESS/ALBUMS AUDIO LOSSLESS/Hi-RES (which has BLU-RAY AUDIO, DSF 2.0, DSF 5.1, DVD-A (FLAC), and FLAC in it) AUDIO LOSSLESS/SOME OTHER FOLDERS AUDIO LOSSY/ALBUMS Here's the conundrum. I've tried setting up two PATHS within the minidlna config because I don't want it looking at every single folder (i.e., BLU-RAY AUDIO won't help a 2.0 receiver NOR will DSF 5.1 or DVD-A FLAC files for that matter). Assuming it's looking for "/media", when it attempts to rebuild the config files, it errors out and drops the docker off my machine and I have to install. What I want to do is have it look at a handful of the above paths, specifically: AUDIO LOSSLESS/ALBUMS/ AUDIO LOSSLESS/HI-RES/DSF/2.0 AUDIO LOSSLESS/HI-RES/FLAC AUDIO LOSSLESS/A COUPLE OF OTHER FOLDERS AUDIO LOSSY/ALBUMS Is there a way to point to multiple paths within the config? Or do I have to edit something manually? Or, am I stuck doing what I really DON'T want to do, and put what I want to be seen in one folder so it can scan accordingly? I really don't want to do the last option so any help here is appreciated. EDIT/UPDATE: I did some further digging and could never get it to look at the folders structured the way I did. Only way around this was to restructure my folders into Stereo and Multi-Channel within one parent. Problem is solved but did notice another issue. When scrubbing (using the HEOS app), DSF files will get all static-y when they start playing from where they resume. Not a huge thing but noticed this quirk. I'm just glad to have my hi-res audio playable on my 2.0 amp now.
  2. Hey everyone, I’m trying to determine my best path forward. Currently have 1x Parity and 5x Data Drives. All current drives are 10 TB. I’m upgrading from 6 drives total to 5 x 16 TB. The first thing I did was move data off one drive and then shrink the array. The 15th is the day my parity check runs so everything should be okay. I'm trying to determine which way forward to migrate to the new drives. Naturally, all drives will be precleared ahead of going online. Providing they all check out, should I simply do the parity rebuild first by pulling the old drive (and holding onto it), installa new disk and assign it as parity, and let it rebuild it? Once done, rinse and repeat for each data drive? Or is there a better way? Thanks.
  3. Thank you for this. I’ll keep an eye on it but find it strange it’s happening daily or close to it. I’ve noticed this more since moving to RC2.
  4. I'm experiencing something similar. The past while, I'm getting a bunch of reads and writes on media disks used by Plex. I've ensured it's not set to scan for changes as I do this manually but I'm getting disk reads around 2am and 5am daily: I did have md_write_method set ro reconstruct write and changed it to AUTO. Will see what happens. Logs simply show: Will update tomorrow.
  5. Not sure if this belongs in here but ran into a small snag this evening. After preclearing (it passed) via USB and shucking a 10TB Seagate Expansion Drive (Ironwolf Pro), I'm trying to offload certain folders from a mount drive (mnt3) to the new drive (mnt5). Using binhex-krusader, I used the move to the other pane option and saw my speeds in 6.9.0rc2 go from 225 MB/s down to 60 MB/s. I've got reconstruct write enabled so I'm not sure why this is happening. In this case, I'm trying to move all of my TV media from two drives to the new one to clear up some space. I've done this without issue in an older version and got 220 MB/s read/write for both. At one point, on the first attempt, I ended up getting three beeps after the web gui dropped off on me. I tried again and didn't have this issue. I did a smaller test (28GB of data) and it did the same; dropped from 225 MB/s to 60MB/s with a lot of drive chatter. Any ideas? Thanks all!
  6. Thanks for the 411. Worst case, I can just manually spin them down. Obviously it's a plug in of some sort that's the problem as when I had Unraid booted in safe mode, everything functioned as expected. Here's hoping RC3 isn't too far off.
  7. Where is telegraf? Autofan is long removed. Hoping RC3 fixes this mess.
  8. So, drives are remaining spun down that are already down. Still having an issues with drives not spinning down in 6.9.0 RC2 (where they're up). I've got the drives and the disk settings at 1 hour for spin down but it's not happening. Any ideas? Or do I want to try the above? blackbox-diagnostics-20210101-1333.zip
  9. Just removed Dynamix Auto Fan Control in case.
  10. Woke up this morning to find, IIRC, drives 2 and 3 spinning. Grabbed diagnostic files again. When I went to bed around 9-10 hours ago, everything was spun down. Happy New Year everyone! blackbox-diagnostics-20201231-0845.zip
  11. Should turbo write be disabled then? I've just double checked Plex and _NOTHING_ is being scanned: Just trying to get this resolved as I'm going to be adding in another drive (need to preclear it first). Thanks everyone.
  12. Here's an update. I rebooted in standard GUI mode and woke up with Drive 3 (of 4) plus Partity being spun-up. I'm attaching a copy of my diagnostics as suggested; hoping somebody can figure out what Plugin is behaving badly. For the record, these are the Plugins running: * CA Auto Update Applications * Community Applications * Dynamix Auto Fan Control * Dynamix SSD TRIM * Dynamix System Information * Dynamix System Statistics * Dynamix System Temperature * Fix Common Problems * Preclear Disks * Statistics * Unassigned Devices * Unassigned Devices Plus Thanks everyone. And wishing you and yours all the best for 2021. blackbox-diagnostics-20201230-1030.zip
  13. 2 1/2 days later and the drives are spinning down in safe mode the way they should. I’ll have to reboot and then run diagnostics and post them. Definitely a plug-in that’s messing things up.
  14. Thanks @JorgeB. Have rebooted in safe mode with GUI. 3h5m and no spin up so far. Usually (at least) one drive would've spun up by now. I didn't disable Dockers, however, so this points me in the direction of a plugin.
  15. Having an issue with drives not spinning down and staying that way. I've set the drives to spin down on each drive plus the universal disk setting. I'm assuming I'll need to get some logs to figure this out. What will I need to do in order to make that happen so I can get this resolved? Thanks everyone.
  16. Went a step further and configured each drive to spin down at 1 hour rather than the global setting and that seems to have fixed things.
  17. I just removed FCP because I've been experiencing constant disk spin ups since installing this RC. Gonna see what happens overnight and will look at UD next if things don't remain spun down. Edit: No activity all night. FCP definitely needs fixing.
  18. Thanks @trurl. I did try using Midnight Commander (mc in the terminal) but couldn't figure out how to delete the folder -- I can see option "8" is delete but how would I do that? Ended up navigating back to the top and to mnt and then going into Disk 1 and using "rm -r folder\ folder" which did the trick. Went back into shares and it was not showing the message any longer. Cheers!
  19. Hey everyone, So far, my Unraid build has been running really well ever since I upgraded the components. I was going through my shares this evening and I saw a message that my "share is outside the list of designated disks." It shows 0B as being there. 1) how did I manage to do this? 2) how do I resolve the issue? I've only selected Disk 4 for that share. Thanks everyone!
  20. The R5 1600AF is a bargain if you're not paying stupid money for a discontinued product and can even find one. At approximately C$40 in price difference, I went with the 3600.
  21. The Ryzen 5 1600 AF (if you can find one still at a reasonable price) is definitely a good path. It's slightly under the Ryzen 5 2600 in performance but not by much. I ended up going the Ryzen 5 3600 route (non X) simply because it will give me a longer lease on life with my new build. A mini-gaming PC I built over the winter was done using an Ryzen 5 2400g which is an amazing processor -- it's for mid-AAA titles and classic retro emulation plus some streaming and audio playback. It served me very well. The Ryzen 5 3600 is a workhorse and gives you good bang for your buck. I came from an i5-6500 and have ZERO regrets in going the AMD route for my Unraid build.
  22. Lots to chew on here but I can try and weigh in a little as I've been in the middle of a new build right now after experiencing some random shutdowns -- figured it was time to upgrade so I did. CASE -- If you can find a Fractal Design Define R6 on closeout, that's a good case. The R7 came out but isn't get as good a review as the last gen case -- it comes with the ability to mount 6 drives out of the box and adapters can be purchased after the fact to add up to 5 more 3.5" drives. PSU -- don't cheap out on this. Try and buy either a RM___x or HX Corsair (as a start) or a Seasonic Focus PSU. I ended up with a SSR-550PX Platinum PSU. I'm running an Ryzen 5 3600 with 6 drives and will eventually have the full 11 in this case. There are websites out there to help you calculate what kind of power draw to expect but assuming that the rule of thumb is 25-30W per 3.5" 7200 RPM SATA drive, even with a 150W pull on the CPU, I'm still gonna be good. GPU -- well, since you're using a Ryzen, you'll need either a board that gives you crappy VGA output _OR_ some sort of video card. If you're using the box for Plex transcoding, and have a Plex Pass, you can get away with a Quadro P400 card -- low power, low draw, and does two concurrent streams but can be "hacked" to do more. I don't do transcoding in my case, so I didn't bother although if I feel the itch later, I might. MOBO - X470. It's the sweet spot right now. Don't see enough with the B550 to make it worth the extra cash. COOLING - stock coolers are kinda noisy and I replaced the Wraith Stealth with a bequiet! Pure Rock. There are other options out there, but in my case, I didn't want to fuss with the backplate that was glued down to the board by the manufacturer. Hrmmm.. "Future-proofing" is a hard one because you really don't know what you'll want to use it for in two years time never mind five. I'd say spend the most you feel comfortable today and hope it gets you 3-5 years before you choose to upgrade. Hope that helps.
  23. Okay everyone, pulling everything together carefully and then when picking up my PSU (especially with the shortage at the moment), it's only got (1) 6-Pin PSU to 4x SATA and (1) 6-pin PSU to 2x SATA cable in the box. I can order the cable from BTOS Integration but because I'm in Canada, I'm looking at about US$25 (or closing in on C$40 after exchange) for the one cable -- yes, US$20 shipping on a US$5 cable. Since I'm picking up an ASRock Rack X470D4U board, I can run M.2 devices on-board instead of relying on a 120GB Kingston SSD I picked up back in January when rebuilding my media server. Since I'm doing a complete rebuild, I decided it's probably better to pick up a drive or two. Obviously, having an unassigned device for the Plex Media Library (and metadata) is probably a good start -- this way, things will be zippier. Not sure how big of a drive or speed I need for this. Then there's the cache drive that needs to be replaced. Naturally, as we get more and more into 4K media, file sizes are getting bigger. 120 GB is definitely not sufficient. From the literature on my board, the following is written: With this in mind, what should I be looking at doing for the two M.2 options that I have? I'm guessing the unassigned device can also come into play if/when I start dabbling with VM but I want to get a stable system up and running first. Thanks everyone.
  24. Quick update: Decided that since the system was pushing 5-6 years old, instead of spending more time trying to get it up and running, I decided it was time to do a 2020 Unraid Build. Pretty much have everything sorted except potentially cooling and PSU but think I'm close on that. Thanks everybody for the space. Gonna mark this "SOLVED" for now...
  25. I'm going to mark this "solved" for now. Did a lot more digging and came up with the Noctua NH-U12S as the suggested best idea of a cooler on the new board. Questioning which power supply so asked over in that thread. Thanks all.
